Last I checked, RMAH isn't breaking any laws.

And did you really compare RMAH with 'sell crack to lil kids'? REALLY?

If people are willing to do X and it doesn't hurt anyone else, making it safe to do 'X' is actually a good thing.

one of them bought a crossbow for $75 real cash wtf. For this stupid lame ass game holy hell.

Another friend bought a chest piece for $50. brilliant blizzard well played well played.

it boggles my mind why woudl you buy items for tons of cash.

Welcome to the club LOL

But yeah your friends are not very smart LOL ( I was thinking more on the line of " Idiots " but you get the drift ) remember , don't loan them any money ! LOL

but those prices are fairly cheap? Considering some of the prices I've seen were in the range of 100-350,400 bucks.

Max price on the RMAH is 250, so no, you haven't seen 350-400 buck items.

I love threads like this, especially all the people who are hating on the RMAH. Yeah, it is pay to win. But really, what are you winning in reality? Bragging rights around your friends? "Hey guys check out this cool item I paid for with real money!" The game is not really a competitive game so don't make it out to be. Yes, there will be PvP and you can say it will be "Pay to win" at that point, but the big part of the game is cooperative not pvp. The greatest part about this thread is all the people claiming that Blizzard is putting items up themselves by "creating them" and putting up the auctions or "seeding them". Hilarious.

Blizzard is a well known gaming company with a great reputation for community support and well recieved games. They will not screw that up by trying to post auctions just to inflate there pockets. If you can prove to me that they are doing this then go for it, by all means. Prove it.  Otherwise leave your useless arguments to attack the RMAH to something more realistic, like "oh it's pay to win!"

Personally I would never buy an item off the RMAH, but it does not mean I won't use the hell out of it. I have already made over 100$ on it myself. This is one of the best ideas Blizzard has come up with in my eyes. It basically allows the consumers and the developers to make money with the game. The consumers get to play a video game and make money off it. The developers get more money to continue to produce content. Wins all around if you ask me.

Here's a question...

Since the Gold Sellers are selling 1 Million gold at $12 or something, and most items are on Auction house for 5-10 Million...

And most of the Items on the RMAH are priced at around 70-250 Dollars...

Wouldn it be cheaper for me to buy the gold from the sellers and buy it on the Gold AH rather than the RMAH?

Sure it would be 'safer' to buy the legit way, but if its so much cheaper buying gold, why wouldnt people just do that instead?

Way to fix the Gold Selling problem there Blizz....

Blizzard can't solve people doing stupid things.

All they can do is offer a safer way to do XYZ.

well let's see:

rmt ---> in most games bannable offense  "illegal" within the game world ---> blizzard now made it a supported feature with their ah and takes fee on sales

drugs ---> most rl govs rate it illegal "bannable offense" within gov borders ---> gov declares drugs are legal and takes tax on sales

yes i compare selling crack to kids with rmt items to gamers

both can be dangerous for health and money for ppl whose mind is let's say not so mature

or do you want to tell me ppl buying pixel items with rl money are compeltly sane?

ppl are willing to do x and not hurt anyone? does drug abuse usually hurt anyone but the person him/herself ?

Hahaha, wow.

I am speechless at this.

I buy pixel items with RL money and I consider myself sane. I'm pretty sure the millions that bought TF2 hats, LoL Skins, BF3 maps,  COD maps, Xbox360 avatar items etc etc as well.

I mean really, this is 2012. Paying for digitial goods isn't exaclty 'new'.

I dunno man, considering you equate 'selling drugs to children' with 'selling virtual items'..

I see a lot of stuff on this forum but my god; that was probably the worst comparision I've ever seen.

Once again, this is 2012 and lots of people pay $$$ for digitial goods. Heck, I just bought an album from Itunes and a game from Steam today.

you criticize my comparison but put stuff like music and games on the same level as in game items likely farmed by a bot and spawned by an algorithm?

Heh , that's a whole lot of BS , AH + real money is never succesful when you end up buying , you'll always end up a loser. :)

My hats off to those making money off the real money AH.

To those buying though ; a real shame. :)

I look at it like this.

If your willing to spend your hard earned money on digital gratification, have at it.  I will farm all the items you want, you just keep forking out that cash.

Maybe there would be riots everywhere, but you can already use gems to buy weapons. All you have to do is to convert your gems into gold then use the world-wide "auction" system to buy crafted mats/directly buy weapons.

In fact, it is very similar to what Diablo III is doing; however, the difference in power which can be "bought" is assumed to be significantely lower in GW2 than in Diablo III.

I don't see how this is any different from Diablo 2. Except you don't have to use a third party site to do it.

And whenever i decide to quit D3 i'll just sell all my items and gold for real cash, without any risk at all :)

While I don't have any issues with people using RMT in online games I do think that any game that allows/support this isn't balanced. The idea behind virtual games and virtual worlds is that you can only acquire items/levels by being online and actually using/playing the virtual world. Bringing something that's outside of the virtual world just makes it completely unbalanced.

So what about people who don't have time to play?

A) Don't play online games.

B) Progress slower than people who invest more time in the game.

Your personal wealth shouldn't affect any virtual worlds. Unfortunately the line is starting to blur and there are only few balanced online games out there at the moment.

Selling power through RMT will be the downfall of online games

and

getting something faster than others is power.

Not really considering the stats on gear is completely neglegant in GW2 compared to every game, which means it absolutely means nothing which gear you have. Secondly and i love how everyone forgets this, one can farm gems in the game. Yes they have a system in place similar to Turbines store point system in LOTRO where you can simply farm gems to get the items from the store for free, sure it takes longer but it's still an option most people overlook since we have the instant gratification thoughts in this generation.

D3 you can't really do that, because the games engine is ridiculous when it comes to crafted items stats needed for end game (hell etc levels) and since they made the change to the item dropping scripts often you are left with nothing useful over and over and over again whereas in GW2 you get a drop for everyone who participated and everyone can use those drops because they are for your class. D3 forces you to use the AH.

In most cases drugs are a much more serious problem. But the principle is the same anyway. Just like its much worse to steal $100000 comped to stealing $100. But its wrong anyway. And its still stealing in both cases.

Imagine a teenager that is using his parents CC and wasting a fortune buying gear. Or perhaps someone older that cant stop himself because of addictive behaviour and personality. And perhaps he will use the CC until the CC-company close it and he will be in debt for years. And try to get a new CC after that and start all over again. I think that is bad enough. And not something a company should exploit for profit.

It is a bit like gambling and going to a casino. Some people cant handle that and will waste everything they own. Just one more time they think..over and over. Until they are broke and in debt. In a RMAH the same type of individual will think "just one more item"...
