I am surprised ( not ), that threads/questions like this come from people who did not played the game! I don't know about any hype, as I did not followed the game to much in the past, but once I had the chance to play the game, yes I became hyped about this game! Simply because I really like it! Play the game first, then come back with CONSTRUCTIV critics and such! Else, find your way to the game you play :)

Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy?
Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!

On a side note Ree Soesbee is hot.

Within a week or so of that, they actually had Arenanet interviews where they explained that the mentions of changing things permanently applies to your personal story, while things in the open world are persistent changes.

Sometimes they were talking about the personal story, sometimes they were talking about dynamic events.

True fact!

Cool, a dictionary. How about a verbal rebut?

And he was never heard from again...

I figured you were smart enough to figure it out. I didn't think you wanted me to spell it out for you. The word permanent makes what you wrote void.

"..until  it gets attacked again, that is."  No permanence in that statement.

then why didnt you respond to my post? and id like to hera your thoughts on what meowhead just said a few posts up.

Nope, but I'm still right.

Googling that sort of thing ends up with lots of links I don't want.

Not only is it true they pointed out sometimes the manifesto was about personal story and sometimes about dynamic events (Including pointing out which is which), it actually turns the manifesto from semi-nonsense into something that makes sense, without having to twist words whatsoever.

GW2 has personal story and dynamic events.  Both offer different things.  In the manifesto when something they say doesn't apply to one, but applies to the other, stop being silly and use common sense.

If you keep people waiting and wondering long enough with the carrot on a stick syndrome, then it will create its own hype. So AN having the done when its done approach they have made a strong marketing plan.

But with this comes the possibilite of let down for some players. Personally I really like the game, but it helps to enjoy the lore and backstory of a game aswell ratehr than just trying to play it as another mmo.

Probably cause I didn't see it.

You have a different understanding  of the word permanent than I do. Your version of permanent is 10 minutes.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dynamic_event

Once an event has triggered, it will continue to progress whether or not players participate in that event. Although the cyclical nature of the system means that consequences are ultimately temporary, event results can persist for days, weeks, or even months until a player comes along and does something to progress the chain of events.[2]

as ANETs own wiki says:

consequences are ultimately temporary

The hype is coming from those in beta coming to the forums saying zomg, I have played the beta and this game is gonna be better than every other game for x,y,z reasons.

Personal story is permanent.

Dynamic events are persistent.

End of story.  There's not really any room for discussion on this. D:

I did google and found nothing relating to what you mentioned. Don't mind if i just refuse to take your word for it.

Fair enough.

Common sense also will make it make sense, but I guess common sense is a pain in the ass too, bad as google, really. :)

It is not about common sense but you trying too hard to give some kind of official explantion regarding what Anet never said. You are just trying to twist the words in favor of Anet that is why i asked for a link because i never read or heard any official statement after the manifesto video which clearly uses some big words about dynamic events.

Thanks, Dave. Yeah, in the video Ree is speaking about the player’s personal story, whereas Colin is talking about dynamic events.  We like to think of personal story choices being permanent and dynamic event choices being persistent.

You're the one who said you didn't believe me!  Even though I was telling the truth, and it makes sense too. :P

That's logical.  I figure 'in the future, I might want to visit the hospital for some reason, but how likely am I going to go pick up an orphan?'

Maybe I'd be more conflicted if my biological clock was ticking. :T

Ok, so i love guildwars(the first one) what strikes me as odd is Guild Wars never had that big of a player base, With GW2 on the way, i see A LOT of hype for this game, where did it come from?!

New post popping up of people stating how they're bored etc with gw2 ( i know some are enjoying) but isnt this exactly why you shouldn't follow hype.   I almost want to laugh because people are SOO excited for this game yet ( many) other games have their unique things about them and some i'd say are far better.

I think people are thinking that if they play GW2 that they must ONLY play GW2, I am gamer, Like TSW while I don't like the gameplay that much the story is enough to make me want to buy it, Mechwarrior I may buy on impulse simply out of nostalgia I am hearing good reviews from my friend in the CBT.  I think folks need to realize another game is just another option, when you get bored with one move to another, thats the main reason I am attracted to GW2 I don't have to pay anything, and the game imho is absolutly amazing, so if and when I get bored with this game I can choose to play another until something that intrigues is implemented or I decide to move on entirely

There are times when one must ask themselves is it my passion that truly frightens you? Or your own?

I was watching a rerun of "The Big Bang Theory" the other night and it brought up an interesting point. Sheldon was talking about "Positional goods" and I think it may apply here. For some reason a lot of people on these boards take it to heart when a game they love is hated, or a game they hate is loved. This may for some reason bring down the value of said game in that person's eyes, or incite rage when said item is overvalued when they simply want it to burn. Anyway...

My point to all of this: Try not to put so much emphasis on what other people think. It's not a personal attack on you. If the game is good/bad then you may make more of an impact by simply stating why (Without 5 exclamation points). Passion is a great thing to have, just not on these forums when you're trying to state why you dis/like a game. I know for me personally, I pass those up without paying much attention.
