Not everyone have to like a game, not every game have to be 'for everyone'.

Actualy I think games made for widest possible audience / lowest common denominator aka WoW / COD are hurting their own genres and gameplay, since obviously every dev want that kind of game - so in effect there is cloning / non-innovative game making / lack of risk taking.

GW2 is good. Not great, not ground breaking, but best themepark I played in long time and I will play it - well at least for some time.

For real long-time commitment I am waiting for some decent sandbox / sandpark though.

I think it's not the hype, its that people pre-paid for the game and maybe some were expecting it to be released soon since games normally do release real soon after taking all your money for digital copies. I fear if the game is not close to being done, and it's dragged out for 3-6 months til release, a lot could lose interest. I'm happy to wait til its done, but I'm even seeing guildies getting weary and tired of waiting already.

What happens when you log off your characters????.....

I have been so hyped for this game for months but I have to say I am so disappointed with the beta so far. I haven't played for long, 4 - 5 hours overall but I have not enjoyed playing, I will go on to even say I was bored. I have seen and heard so many positive reviews about this game but.. I am so far failing to understand why? Anyone else with a similar opinion to that of myself?

You wont be alone, others will follow suit when the honey moon wears off.

GW2 isnt going to be for everyone and I hope arenanet makes sure it stays that way.  Trying to please everyone like Rift or post WOTLK WoW just doesn't work.

Huh? i would say it worked quite well for Rift and WOW post WOTLK. if it didn't both games would be dead in water.

Worked well at keeping the brain dead masses happy. Worked well at being a good game? Hardly.

Lets be honest, most people on this site arent part of the majority of gamers. We all look for something more from a MMO. I think Toddze is right, if you try to please too many people you will just come across as mediocre in every aspect. Focus on your strengths and make a game for a set demographic, not for everyone.

My complaint about the OP is that he does not give specifics why he is disappointed with GW2. However, I agree with his disappointment. On the other hand, I agree with other posters - GW2 is exactly what ANet said it would be. Thus, the problem is not with the game - it is with me.  This is no game for noobs.

My issues:

1)  Cannot send anything to yourself. This is a killer for an altoholic like me. Every toon you start you begin with and get nothing. No problem for a group player but no fun for a solist.

2) Too hard for noobs. On three of my toons I get stuck early in the personal story. I am unable to deal with multiple mobs. After 40 hours of play (two beta weekends and the monday night beta) I felt that I had some ability dodging etc. No good.

3) Downleveling.  So I can't beat the necro level 10 quest. I come back at level 15 figuring that I can take it easy. Nope. I am downleveled to level 10 and after 4 tries I give up.

4) Early crafting items made rare again. Though better armor is not a prime mover in GW2 it does help. The first beta was a major disappointment. You must have a "vial of troll blood" to build any early level weapon or armor. The drop rate matches the boar gizzard of WOW. My average for a vial - once every 4 hours. Last Friday night (6/8) it was great - at least one vial an hour. The game is great! Then the Saturday patch. Once every 4 hours again. So much for crafting early level gear.

5) Dynamic events. Two issues: they are great when you have people to join you but suck when you try and solo. Second issue: they repeat over and over and over. They remind me of RIFT Rifts and I am afraid that the same thing will happen to GW2 that happened to RIFT. After everyone gets past the early levels there will be no one to help beginning players. Once again - bad news for an altoholic.

6) WvW. Numbers wins. I admit that I did not play that long in WvW. Every battle I saw and was in it was the number of players that made the difference. Of course numbers means something but put more than two players against one and that is it - game over for the one. For sure you can tell the more skillful players and groups. I hoped that WvW would bring back the fun of early AV or even Tarren Mills but saw no such thing.

7) Down state. I am not sure the technical term for it. When you are killed you go into this state. Although it was fun the first few times as I actually got back to life, more often I was killed and had to suffer through another two minutes of being pummeled before I could finally release to the waypoint. Annoying and boring. Especially in PVP. The LEAST Anet could do is give me a button for "ok you win, I am dead, let me just go to the waypoint".

My real frustration with this game is that I REALLY like it but don't have the skill to play it. It is a fantastic game if you have the reflexes and the friends to play it. I expect, no I know, that it will do well, in the hundreds of thousands at least. Alas, I won't be one of them.

The Critical Hit Pretzel!

6/10/12 11:56:43 AM#65

Opinions vary. Some people might enjoy it while others might not. We can all do the 'play more to see if you really like it' deal but truthfully theres only so much wind a game can catch with that to grab attention. Within the first hour you can have a general basis of what you feel about a game and from there it can either be improved upon or lowered.

Don't get me wrong, there are games that do have an odd curve about them where it improves greatly several hours in, but very few games are actually that way.  By 5 hours in the OP pretty much should have his opinion down.

People is in the ¨honey Moon¨ stage now, it happen with everysingle MMO in the market, but we should wait till the people have the chance to play the game for more than a weekend to see the real state of the game. GW2 is a casual MMO, not a long-term game and not even an e-spot MMO, is casual, and B2P for a reason, after the 1st Month people will come back to their MMOs and leave GW2 as a 2nd game, If someone admit as a player that, you sould be ok with gw2, but if you really believe that the game will be the best MMO ever, the disappointment will be just epic.

Agreed.

After playing today, all day, I'm finding it difficult logging back in. It's just the same old crap we've seen over recent years, perhaps a little more polish. The gameplay is repetitive and boring and the cooldowns make me want to smash keyboard.

Eh, whatever. D3 and now GW2 down the drain. The future of gaming looks very generic and bleak if you ask me.

If you're looking for something completelyrevolutionary, look else where. While GW2 has quite a few interesting features, it's not incredibly innovative. You seem to be looking for something completely out of the box.

You know, I've been thinking about this over the past few weeks having played D3 and GW2, both of which are mediocre at best. The problem I see it is that developers have become lazy in their game design approach, they're perfectly content releasing generic content that's nothing new. They're doing this because we're buying it. We're so hungry for good new games that we'll try anything, and I mean ANYTHING to try and find it.

Where's the creativity?

Where's the imagination?

Where's the new content and design?

Where's the immersion?

Where's the longevity?

Where's the freakin' purpose?

WHERE ARE THE GOOD DEVELOPERS?

I think it's past time that we start demanding more. I know there are plenty of gamers out there that are perfectly content playing this same old garbage year after year after year, but that is changing. More and more gamers are waking up to that feeling of "I've done this before, give me something new and different".

I'm as guilty as the next gamer when it comes to supporting these half-a** games but I'm not buying as much as I used to. I knew D3 was going to suck after playing beta but being such a HUGE Diablo fan I just couldn't help myself. Now I regret it. I also regret pre-purchasing GW2. They're generic and boring and it pisses me off.

It's up to us really, as gamers. Either we wise up and stop paying for generic, mediocre product or we'll just keep getting fed the same garbage. Is this it? Is this all we're going to get in the future? I guess we'll see. Perhaps gamers will just fall in line with the generic and bland. God, I hope not.

Welcome to the club, Zekiah.

Oh dear god, get a grip. Just because you don't enjoy the game doesn't mean you're somehow 'more mature' and everyone else has bad tastes. Unbelievable. Exact opposite of 'mature'.

Nail meets head, well said.

Not only do we see toy cars littering the genre, they're filled with Kens and Barbies.

It's one thing to  have an opinion. It's another to claim that yours is superior and everyone has bad tastes and likes 'mediocre' games. I can understand your complaint with D3, but I honestly can't fathom what your problem is with GW2. Sounds like you're a bitter hater, to be honest. Hyperbole through the roof. Why? Not sure I care to know.

You do realize that every single time there is a beta and someone gives the game a negative review... some other guy, comes into the forum and claims that only people that don't like the game would make posts while the beta is stil on?

But amazingly... some games really are... not that great.

You do relize the people who love the game are playing it and not posting now. Wait until Monday.

You do realize that every single time there is a beta and someone gives the game a negative review... some other guy, comes into the forum and claims that only people that don't like the game would make posts while the beta is stil on?

But amazingly... some games really are... not that great.

and amazingly some games truly are great games

Various reasons as to why I personally disliked the game over the beta weekend. Admittedly I didn't play much at all, I didnt want to force myself to play a game I simply wasn't enjoying.

Your too hard for noobs point, while it might be you saying that you dont have the skill to play it, I've been playing video games for years and would consider myself a good player. I had the same issue dealing with mutliple mobs as melee, as ranged its easy as you can kite better. Melee needs to be fixed.

They recommened you be x level to do the personal storyline but then that would mean I would have to do more dynamic events (public quests) which are nothing special, the standard kill this, collect that. While doing dynamic events, mobs can start hitting you and your in down state very quickly as a melee class, if you are targetted by 2+ enemies. I was resorting to ranged damage simply because I wanted to survive and not be in downed state.

When I'm level x, why am i fighting enemies two higher than myself when I havent even been giving the chance to get to that level in the starter zone. It makes sense that enemies are harder to kill the more players that are participating in the dyanimc event but if they are 2/3 levels above me and start hitting me, you just seen people going down all over the place then people rush ro revive. Its just a cycle of attack/revive, not fun.

Down state is pretty messy, especially in compact spaces/corners etc. Personally dislike downed state altogether, the fact you throw rocks at people or just lay down waving your hand and your 'healing'.

I highly dislike the combat.

Zoom out distance needs to be increased.

The fact you can buy sunglasses to make your character look cool, games that you can pay real money for ingame items, cash shops....

I couldnt make a character I wanted to carry on playing with. Don't get me wrong the character creation options are good and I enjoyed making charr but then the classes all play look and play so blandly.

The visuals of this game are very good, I love how you can see so far away and then go that point on the map. Capital cities look amazing.

The travel system is fast and makes 'questing' and the personal storyline faster but then I personally think it takes part of the adventure out of the game, your just darting about the place waiting for loading screens.

I was just expecting something different with Guild Wars 2, its nothing new. Im glad others are enjoying the game but it is not for me, everyone likes a game when it first comes out then this like for the game can die out quickly. I played the first guild wars and it was one of the better mmos I have played, throughly enjoyed that game.

Finally I have been looking at these forums since before WAR. I have not been paid to let people know my opinion on the game.

I find that at level 10+ the game is more fun. I really think they need to revamp the low level gameplay/progression. Many classes I played >10 were just too boring to level higher, (engineer, mesmer)for me personally. I have never bought into the idea that certain classes are/should be late bloomers. All classes should be fun to play from the minute you create them.

I've also found that the human starter area seems to be more fun just because of the sheer amount of other players there.  I'm getting a very WAR feeling, where everyone congregates in 1/3 of the content leaving the rest a but underplayed.

My first choice was the human starter area. Then I tried a norn area. I gave up after a couple of hours and returned to the human area. The norn area feels huge and has massive largely empty swathes of land. Also, most of the mobs were running around invulnerable to damage. Hopefully a bug. Anyway, I found it much harder to find enough to do in the norn area compared to the human one. I'm sure I must have missed something obvious and being a timed beta, there wasn't enough time to explore properly by then.

At the end of the day though, I found the human starting area far more friendly and easier to get around then the norn one. Just as well for me I prefer to play humans then...though I must admit the norn are nice looking characters.

FYI, the bank is account wide. So just go to a banker and put whatever items you want to access from your alt there.

1) As mentioned by others, the bank is shared across all characters. Also keep in mind there is a collectibles tab on which you can store crafting mats, saving your limited bank slots for other things.

2) Several PS quests are too hard right now. Hoping they start tweaking them.

3) At 15 you should have had more skills unlocked, giving you more utility. While your health and gear stats drop to level x, you still ahve teh benefit of having more skills than someone at the lower level normally would. It helps a lot.

4) Vial of blood is for "vital" items. Vital is a modifier that gives bonus health. Or it was Mighty, the bonus power one. Forget which. Regardless. you could craft non-modified weapons without the blood just fine. Also, keep in mind you probably had mats for 2-3 other modifier items, but you have to discover those.

5)  There are a few that are meant for groups, but most should be solo friendly. If anything more people makes it tougher because of how DES scale. And I can't think of a one in the starting zones save things with Vet or CHampion-ranked mobs that cannot be solored. Re: repetition, my only advice is keep moving. Do a DE? Unless that chains into a different event (they often do) move on, do something else. There's always another event somewhere nearby. If you roll a lot of alts that could get old fast, but really that's going to hapen in ANY game.

6) Numbers wins when either A) the numbers are stupidf (300 vs 20 let's say) or the smaller group plays poorly. I not only saw, but partcipated in, WvW skirmishes where a smaller group could and did beat a larger one through clever use of tactics. I will agree there were sever imbalances that made some fights insane though...Crystal Desert and Darkhaven outnumbered their opponents by stupid amounts.

7) Really you should not be taking 2 minutes to die in downed. I'm confused. Eitehr there was nothing around to kill you, in which case you cna heal yourself up with 4, or you should have died much faster. Even against one weak mob, nothing takes 2 minutes to kill you. I'll upvote the request for a "just let me die" button though.

Could be the game itself, but its really early to tell. No one is objective or has enough experience at this stage.

Thats kind of wrong imo. If you played the game both weekends and the stress test you got pretty much a week ingame. So far the game is awesome to me, the PvP looks boring in videos but actually playing the PvP is way more fun than watching it. The PvE is also so free. I dont feel like its a chore where you have tons of quest hubs, simply roam around and enjoy what it throws at you.

But well some people will simply dont like the game, then lets just let them have their opinion. Who cares what other people think as long as yourself like it.

Oh dear god, get a grip. Just because you don't enjoy the game doesn't mean you're somehow 'more mature' and everyone else has bad tastes. Unbelievable. Exact opposite of 'mature'.

Indeed.

"I don't like this game, therefore i look down upon anyone who does. Also, look at me, look how mature i am because i don't like this game. LOOK"

"This game, it doesn't have a feature that i want, THEREFORE IMMATURE GAME. Also LOOK HOW MATURE I AM"

"When will us mature players get what we deserve?? Aren't we supposed to be the mature masterrace?!"

I don't really get why people jumped all over the OP other than the fact that the original post was his first on this site.  He didn't bash the game he just said he was disappointed.  I am kinda conflicted about the game, the things I was looking forward to the most disappointed me, and the things I thought I would really dislike didn't bother me nearly as much as I thought they would.  So, I'm overall not really sure what to make of it yet.

I like the combat more than I thought I would, and the primary reason I was even on the fence about whether or not to buy the game was the limited skill bar, but that ended up not really bothering me at all.

I am severely disappointed in the personal story, and the DE's aren't really what I was expecting based on the praise from the first beta weekend.  That was what originally tipped my decision; the positive posts about the DE's.  But in the end they were my most disappointing aspect.  I am looking forward to them hopefully getting better as you get higher level.
