I'm still trying to wrap my head around them needing to sell 3 million copies at $60 a pop to break even. That just seems crazy for their very first foray into game development and publishing. Join the League For Gamers. |

Too bad, really. I enjoyed KOA. They took out a 75 million dollar loan and couldn't make it work even after a successful launch of their first game? This bodes ill for other indie developers out there. Time to batten down the hatches. |

Scott Jennings, who used to blog as Lum the Mad, has a take on this massive cluster of fail: http://www.brokentoys.org/2012/05/25/the-week-the-music-died/ It's a good read. And he raises some good points, especially about the future of MMOs.

Sad to hear I really dont like Salvatore or the art direction of the game so i was very dissapointed with KoA and i had no hope for the MMO....but that doesnt mean i wanted it to fail. Playing: EVE online and TL2 |

KOA lost me at "action combat" and I'm sure their MMO would have done the same, but I do feel sorry for those who now have to slog through the horrendous job hunting market. I wonder how much personal wealth Schilling had to go through for this whole process. Feel kind of bad for him too.
Edit: I take back what I said about Schilling. If the article I read has even a smidgeon of truth in it, then he deserves what he got, but now I feel even more sorry for the saps who stuck with him to the miserable end as they got email dismissals instead of face to face. To think I was going to feel sorry for a hypocritical conservative who always denounces government money for private sector business, except for his own black hole company. |

This should teach two lessons to all people reading this article of Kurt's two biggest mistakes. One just cause you play games does not mean you know how to make good games. And two you do not start companies on loans that have to be paid back by a certain date. No good game can be made on a short timeline. |

Did EA suck up all of the profits from the million sales and leave little or nothing for Big Huge and 38? I bought a copy for my and my partner... love it, just restarted playing last night and love the game! I am not a fan of EA... Gladari: |
