Originally posted by TwoThreeFour 1: "Graphics" is a combination of technology and aesthetics. It is the sum total of what appears on the screen. That is why is is subjective in many cases. As in the example of the DX9 shader for GW2, having a more advanced level of technology does not immediately necessitate better graphics. Just because you have a very advanced engine does not mean that it lives up to its potential. EQII is a great example. Great engine in many ways, for it's time, but it was poorly optimized, and the design takes very poor advantage of the technology, regardless of the art style. One game can have opjectively better graphics even if one does not like the art style in use, because we can objectively look at how well the engine and the design achieve the desired effect. But in some case, what effect is best is subjective, so what graphics are best can be subjective in many cases. 2: "Theory" actually a few slightly different meanings, but the basic idea is a set of ideas that one has come to based on observation, and that one either can or intends to test. There are plenty of people who use it to basically mean "guess," and that's largely how the misconception about the "theory" of evolution came about. These people are largely uneducated, and have trouble with the meanings of a lot of words. In the end, words mean things. We have in English arrived at those meanings through generations of shared history and a collective aggreement that words should mean specific things. Meanings change gradually over time, but over the past couple of generations, there has been a sharp decline both in the collective understandting of the clear denotations and sometimes less clear connotations of words, and in the general understand of those concepts.
As for minor details, those are often the things that draw me into a word. A game can be gorgeous in most other ways, but generally feel insipid due to a lack of detail, a lack of the minor things that tend to evoke a sense of being in a living world, not just a series of pixels and numbers. I know that's all it is, in the end, but the suspension of disbelief and the experiencing an imaginary world are key reasons why I play games, and when a game pays attention to the little things that make a world come alive, I take notice. And Guild Wars 2 has done a far better job that most games. "There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit." — John Parry, to his son Will; "The Subtle Knife," by Phillip Pullman |

I really like the guy who made the video. He is objective, does great analisis and is straight to the point. Ontopic; Gw2 may not have top notch graphics, but the world design, aesthetics, sounds, the mood, the lightning, reflections, even the best DX11 games can envy GW2 in some segments. |

Anyways, carry on with the party. ![]() |

Originally posted by Chrome1980 I played Tera during beta (I even paid 5 euros for it, mind you), what I've seen didn't make me want to pay over 50 more euros for it, so I obviously won't pay 50 euros just to take a screenshot. I just don't remember noticing that character feet where adapting to hillside like in GW2, but I have no problems with being proven wrong on that :) PS: réfléchit avant d'écrire à l'avenir ;) |

Originally posted by Grotar89 I played the GW2 beta. Sadly i didnt take any screenshot of some of the ¨ugly¨ things that i found, gonna do it the next beta. The graphics are not that great, games like lotro, AoC, TSW and even Tor, have better graphics, and i can give you so many examples about why, but is just pointless tbh. u cant argue with a fanboy. |

Originally posted by NBlitz I commented about swimming becaue every mmo is different and has exclusive features. The swimming in Aion is non-existent like flying is in GW2. Slow your roll and try and understand before getting so excited. Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

Compare a terrain of steep maybe...? I would guess that GW2 will do the same as well on such angle. |

Originally posted by Gdemami No, it doesn't. Say in real life you are standing in front of a chair and you put your foot on it, your knee will bend. In GW2 your legs bend to the form of the terrain just like in real life. I have posted Tera and Aion SS and neither of these do this. I will make a point of taking a SS next beta in GW2 to show the difference. I beleive because GW2 has so much exploration, jumping puzzles, etc. the mechanics are much more detailed. That is why this discussion is about GW2s Graphics, aethetics and attention to detail. Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

This has nothing to do with knees...it is about polygon surface. Computer graphics and physics is nothing like "real life". Make a SS and you will see. |
