My new motto; Nothing worth saying takes less than a giant wall of (kinda)structured text! :D |
Greetings! (BEWARE OF INCREDIBLY LONG POST! ) Some info: Have a rather prowerful system (Rog tytan CG8565,,,, the one with the best specs/there seem to be different variants :D ) Im primarily interested in: surfing/studying/gaming:-mmorpgs -rpgs -fps/action games. I used to have a 120hz samsung monitor, one of the first models that used to function with nvidia 3d vision (bundled with it), and to be honest, i had a pretty positive reaction to the smoothness that the 120hz granted to the feeling of mouse control when browsing through desktop and internet pages. The improvement was also noticable (although NOT HUGE) when playing games with the choice of 120hz in their options screen. So far, so good. But i was not as impressed with nvidia 3d vision as i thought i would have been. Why? Coz it looked awesome when playing some games in 3d vision (truly an experience to behold) BUT 1-While there were literally hundreds of games that ''functioned with 3d'' ONLY a small fraction of them actually WORKED WELL with 3d (clouds/crosshairs/shadows etc looking fine) 2-AND EVEN THAN, PERSONALLY, i experienced that the 3d vision, after about 30 minutes or so, caused too much of an eye strain to be enjoyable anymore. So, buttom line is; although i enjoyed 120hz, 3d was a gimmicky feature to me that i used to impress my friends&family with (occosionally), but didnt use it more than that. BUT ONE THING BOTHERED ME LIKE HELL with this screen! Namely; the viewing angles! I have a large, and somewhat ''tall-ish'' computer desk, and all the time - the screen used to look kinda black-ish from my slightly below viewing angle. It lost some contrast etc, and thus details disappeared. I solved this problem by forcing my screen to ''look downwars'' by putting a good book halfway its foot, thus getting a better viewing angle out of it (it was not adjustable otherwise). But yeah, 120hz was good for surfing and gaming, but generally the viewing angles sucked so much, general picture quality was UNIMPRESSIVE, and 3d was just a gimmick. Than, about 6 months ago, i got an Eizo LED IPS! WHAT A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE! MUCH, MUCH BETTER PICTURE QUALITY, AND PERFECT viewing angles! Than again, it was ONLY 60hz AND 5ms as a tradeoff. :( AND ofcourse, it had no 3d vision support. Experienced some slight tearing and wearing when playing ''fast games''.
AND NOW... Now, my sambo is going to get my previous monitor (above mentioned eizo) from me (its busted, waiting for repairs) , and wer gonna dump her older screen. Thus i need a new computer screen, and i got some cash spared for it. Im primarily interested in two computer screens. 1-Asus VG278H (bundled with the 3d vision 2, 120hz etc) (27''1920x1080 /120hz/2ms) and 2-Samsung S27A850T (new pls panel, uber res&viewing angles etc) (27''2560x1400/60hz/5ms(?)) I need a screen PRIMARILY FOR a)Studying for long, long hours in front of it (reading online documents and (blurry) scanned copies of books, and writing stuff in word and powerpoing and excel etc) b)PLAYING GAMES!! woo-t! (also VERY IMPORTANT, naturally) SO WHICH ONE DO YOU GUYS RECOMMEND? (or maybe u advice something else altogether) With the asus, i get the new d3 vision 2, which has much brighter colors ETCATERA that lead to less eye strain (from reviews), there are now more games that really function well with 3d gamig, and ALSO, it probably(?) has better viewing angles than my ca 3.5 yrs old samsung.......and naturally its 120hz with 2ms response, good for gaming, eh? Than again we have the NEW samsung PLS, i have tested it our personally at a local store, and it had the best viewing angles + one of the sweetest color depth/contrast i have ever seen on a computer screen, (plus its 2560x1400), BUT i could not use it to test out games in the store, which is a shame.. :D (if i could, i would have decided which screen to buy now, heheh) So...by their producers, the asus is primarily designated as a ''gaming'' screen, and the samsung as a ''business'' screen. But for me, things are rarely that simple, as u can see :P So what do you guys recommend? SORRY FOR THE INCREDIBLY LONG POST, but i didnt force u to read it, u cant sue me! (but IF you could, than please dont! Every time u sue me, some internet meme kitten dies or something something). THANKS in advance for any/all advice. |

I was deciding between a 30" monitor, 3d monitor or 3 dell 2209WA's.
I went for the three monitors, more space to work with as well as having the benefits of IPS.

I'm very glad I went with that choice. Wouldn't give up the extra working space for anything and it's nice for most games as well. If you didn't want to go for three I would still pick the IPS but then again I kinda hate TN panels, especially if they get a horrible glossy coating on them. |

IPS really is not worth it unless you are planning to spend over $1000 per monitor at over 27". What you get below that are e-IPS panels which have similiar image quality as TN Panel monitors with LED backlighting. They also have the drawback of lower refresh rate compared to similiarly priced TN Panel monitors. With that said I would go with the Samsung model if I had the choice. When you look at your playing list, you are playing RPG, MMORPG, and FPS. Only FPS require a decent refresh rate, and 60hz is more then enough. The Samsung model has a more pixel density which will help readability, and its image quality is excellent especially compared to a 3D monitor. 3D is too much a gimmick with limited application, and like you said you cannot enjoy it as much as you would like. |
