Did you ever think that one point coincides with the other.
Also, since each armor set is different for each race and gender the developers have to do 33 armor sets for each tier. Not an easy undertaking.
People complained so they relaxed on the hit boxes. In the 2 updates past the initial game the designs for weapons has gotten a bit more varied. |

eh im a 53 lancer on VOT and pretty casual tbh. I really don't find leveling too bad. Just gotta know what you're doing. I thought it was getting pretty grueling but then i started incorporating debilitate into my rotation. For one, I make sure i buy a piece of armor that has a 50% chance to regenerate mana on combat and if i can something that has a 30% chance to regenerate health. Hit the stupid little creeps you find everywhere so that combat starts and you can proc the enchant. Also mana regen crystals and hp regen and maybe poison or whatever else you think would work. I personally use all mana regen crystals 2 hp regen crystals and a poison followed by whatever else i feel like. Pretty decent ones are cheap on the ah. Also having armor or a weapon with one of the enchants "on hit, your skills regain 0.2 mana or health is pretty nice" 2. Bandaids and a lancers heal makes you a non stop killing machine. 3. Use your debuff a lot, it's stackable and makes killing things a helluva lot easier. Also use your combo's a lot. Shield wallop into spring attack, debilitate, block, shield bash, debilitate then either wallop or onslaught and thing die pretty quick. 4. after 48 or so enchanting your gear upto six helps a lot with your dmg and survivability. I like to enchant my boots and gloves first (since the items are so cheap pre tier 10 or 11)
Hope this helps !

No doubt leveling begins to blow. 30-40 begins the whole "this is not fun leveling" era, and 40-50 has continued that. I can only assume 50-60 will only be more of this Korean grindfest crap that is accepted over there. I'm truly surprised these levels were not easier, being a "Westernized" game. Also from 59-60 it takes 175Million XP, with each quest giving anywhere from 800k to 2 million XP. Bullshit much? |

Originally posted by Celusios So it takes you roughly 100 quests from 59 to 60. I remember it was roughly the same with vanilla WoW and the same still being the case with EQ2 every time they rase the cap the last couple levels are a serious grind. So it's nothing new. Even LOTRO required quite some quests to get me from 64 to 65 before the RoI expac last year! |

Today I reached lvl 56 and from 55 - 56 I killed 80+ bams plus quested to get to 56. I like it, I feel like I am eraning each lvl. Last few MMO it was a breeze to get to cap. Plus I toss in an instance now and then. This game feels good. Great not yet but for sure good. Elections coming soon, so lets see how that turns out. |

Originally posted by Celusios Is that why one of my story quests at 45 gave me 2.2m xp and a BAM killing quest gave me 650k XP, it can't possibly stay the same can it? Also monsters give a fair amount of xp, I get 120k a BAM(with a party) and 13-20k a normal monster at 45.
So it's slow but not 100 quests slow, even I would admit that would be ridiculous. My friend is 60 as of a week ago and TERA is his first MMO, he made me look bad lmao. So can the game really be that hard to level? If you want to know why i'm not maxed I have a 45, 30 and many lower levels. Plus a nice screenshot thread in the TERA section. :)

Originally posted by Pivotelite I was just saying the stats of quests. I didn't include the BAM kills or etc. Also the BAM XP rewards are completely different than normal questing and aren't nearly as frequent to come by. You still figure 59-60 is 175 million XP... it may not be 100 quests but it'll be a lot. And since this game is fond of the "kill x of x" system it will take some time to hit 60 SOLO. Again I speak from a perspective of a person who has a job and cannot play for 3-4 days at release to hit the cap without sleep. I'm currently level 49, nearly 50. |

Nobody has the right to complain about Tera's grind. People were able to hit the level cap of 60 in less than one week! People are quick to blame the game for their own trangressions. If the leveling is slow it's because YOUR leveling slow, and not the game's fault. From my personal experience the Exp per level does drop off dramatically at level 40+. I was able to circumvent it by spamming more dungeons, and now I'm swimming in exp and gold gear that allows me to plow through the rest of the quests. I can't believe this world we live in, relaxed Death Penalties, Rested Exp, Dungeon Finder at launch, easily accessible Gold Gear rewards, a Leveling Curve that takes less than a month to complete. And yet the the super over-priviledged children are STILL complaining that leveling is too much for them and they want to quit? |

There is an "issue" with the levelling curve it goes from smooth to steep with not much warning. YES some people rushed to 60 in levelling groups and are now bored mindless, personally I am not 60 I am mid ranged and I will leave the game until they smooth it out as I like to enjoy my experience not struggle with it and that applies to hardcore and softcore. Keeping things "consistent" is of the utmost importance in game design, I despise switch and bait systems.
Before you go bashing me for being a wow wannabie (as thats another tool in the forum drama kids arsenal), I was queuing for groups in dark age of camelot's realm of albion to grind witherwoodies which is a badge of honor and I carry it with pride.
I enjoyed that experience as it gave me people to talk to while I waited would I repeat that experience probably not, do I want to "solo" grind difficult mobs for quests, no not really. So I choose to walk with my wallet. Will they fix it, probably, thats when I may return. In the mean time there's plenty of other games on the way.

Did you just say the pvp servers need a, "PVP Off" button? Are you kidding me? That's call go to the PVE server...what a nub. I love when PVER's want their cake and eat it to...you can't get everything your way...go to the pve server and have a turn on button...but don't go to the pvp server and have a turn off button.
Quests, while yes they are just run out and kill this, etc...most pvpers you'll find like this...so I wouldn't call that a bad thing. As a avid pvper...I hate quests...so grind quests right outside the base are perfect!!
The grind is simple all the way through...people hit 60 in 4 days. One guy in our clan played straight through on a zerker to see how fast he could hit 60 from level 1. He did it in 36 hours straight. Don't confuse this with L2 where you speed grind to 85 then the game stops moving.
All this game needs to go from good to epic is a quality siege system. Incognito |

It's just NOT fun, and I'm sure Mr. Bill is one of them, as it seems he just got to level 30 on his post. Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more. |

Ok, my first post! Well for me it's been a combination of things that both entertain and exasperate as I've leveled up to 53 over the past couple of weeks. I hate comparisons among games, so will not go down that path. A game should stand on it's own or fail all by itself. I think it is too early to judge Tera to the full extent. MMO's of all brand and description will never meet everyone's expectations, nor please all players: a truism, but still worth restating. Let's agree, that Tera like other games is a grinder, nothing more nothing less. It does take a new spin on the genre by allowing many more options of grouping or not grouping. One can by pass the so called BAM's and still level up solo if one likes; yet, this path will take longer, since much of the xp in the game comes from the actual quests themselves, and not from grinding mobs per say. As a warrior I've had my ups and downs with the game's mechanics. The warrior class in particular is more like a Rogue class in other games, rather than the typical slash and burn warrior type we have all come to recognize. Yet, I love playing it so far. It has both a dps and a off-tanking spec (i.e., using dodge and aggro, speed and kiting it can manage BAM's). But just barely, for it takes a good healer to keep a warrior going, and a good warrior to know just when to time his/her specific movements. And don't mention how los (Line of sight) issues can spoil the prize! But like many others I came to the WALL at about level 52 when the quests and storyline suddenly took a downside and became a series of nothing bu BAM quests that needed a 5 man team to conquer. I belong to a good guild, we help each other, participate in the poltics - and this is a new aspect of the game, which will move in and out of the game ... but that is another tale! Our guild has 250 strong, and we have a smattering of all types of players, some that love to solo, some that love partying, husband/wife teams, you name it we got it.... And, like, many guilds we use the typical out-of-game chat systems: Ventrillo, TeamSpeak, Mumble, et. al... But I have come to the wall where now instead of progressing at a steady pace, I sit waiting, seraching the lfg, the instance matcher, etc. for sometimes hours waiting to move ahead. Is this good? Is this bad? I guess it's up to every user to decide. Between times I help lower level guildies to level up, but this can be a detriment to them for the game discourages this type of experience by penalizing the player xp it they are too high so that the lower tier players get the normal quest xp but very little of the grouping xp. As for the dungeons: I have to admit they seem in some ways very repetitive... even if the basic scenery changes, the BAM's them selves have for the most part the same mechanics over and over and over.... very predictable, unlike games like Rift where one must spend a lot of time strategizing to conquer even the base mechanics of a raid scenario. And, yes, that brings us to another point: there are no larger raiding type instances in this game. Is that a detriment. All depends on your perspective I guess. For me the game satisfies my theme-park amusement for now. I will play for a while, enjoy the comaraderie of other players and the action type skill sets. But in the end this game will not be a place I'll call home as I've done with such games as Eve Online, Rift, Lotro, and a few others from the past... but, hey, it's been an enjoyble, if rocky run so far... and, I for one am going to give it a chance to prove itself by getting to Nexus and the Endgame content before I pass any final judgements.... I hope all of you do.... too! _________________ |

I'd just like to say I much prefer the "Review In Progress" style of review over a standard "SWTOR" type review where the score did not properly reflect the game. This review hasen't rushed to a conclusion which I like. Looking forward to the final part :) |

I am now at level 56 and I haven't experienced ANY slowdown during the leveling process.. its still too fast... from 50 to 52, took us around 2-3 hours... and now at 56... well it feels a tad slower but I can tell you there is definately no steep xp curve at the end :) Also since you are moving always to another place (which always look even greater than the place before), I think the leveling is really well done. Yeah its traditional questing, but due to the graphics, open dungeons and cool BAMs I enjoyed the level process alot. Currently playing: Tera |
