OP  5/14/12 3:59:04 PM#1

After trying out the game during beta weekend I was left with one single positive thing to say about the game.

The questing experience was very good.

Sadly to me a mmo is more than just questing so this game is a pass.

Playing: None

Waiting on: None

It's a disease called GW2.

Everyone who is waiting for GW2 is dooming TSW for not being GW2.

There's plenty of great elements in the game. Read the biased preview I wrote for example 8)

For what reason? Games are NOTHING ALIKE!!
I so do not get this forum and the moronacy involved

Here is a quick primer.

If you like game A, you dislike games B, C, D, & E, and anyone who likes them or prefers them is instantly of a lower intelligence.

Repeat with with any of the games switching places, then you'll have the forums here down!

Seriously though, there do seem to be plenty of folks who appreciate games for what they offer, not for what the wish them to be. At least the OP is honest, it wasnt what he was looking for.

Your right, it is called GW2.

So much for SWToR, TERA and TSW, lets see if GW2 lives up to it hype like so many players praise on this website.

I gurantee your going to have haters as well when GW2 is finally released and it's all back to square one again (back to WoW) on which they start hyping the new expansion. It's a vicious cycle.

I for one still think SWToR can pull it off and TSW becomes pretty popular with a certain niche of players. I can't speak much for TERA at this point and just started playing that game.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. That's no primer. That a quick reply to a bad post

The games ARE NOTHING ALIKE...except to the morons that want it to be

something doesn't have to be litterally the same to be alike.. to say they are nothing alike is just silly. Both games are billed as MMO's heavily focused on story, Both contain a fully voiced story line to follow. To say they are nothing alike just is ridiculous

Both games have very few skills to press during combat compared to other MMOs. Both games offer 3 faction PvP in form of  minigames and RvR. Both games offer system where you can fill any role you wish in your group without depending on your "class choice". Both games have nearly identical AoE indicators. Both games are bringing something different to the table of mmorpgs. Both games have a CS. Neither of these games have open world PvP on the PvE side of things.

Just saying whether you are hyped about GW2 or TSW you can easily compare these games to each other which shadows your objective opinion and saying "only questing is good in TSW" with a large text on your avatar saying WAITING FOR GW2 kinda spills the beans.

Did the OP give a fair chance to TSW?

No sire he/she did not.

Neither game is a lazy old wow clone either
both games are trying to keep you playing by being fun, not using skinner box mechanics so you're playing for phatlewts.

They're different, but the things they have in common is why I.... LIKE BOTH

The MMORPG.com community has got to be the absolute worst gaming community on the internet.  You people hate EVERYTHING.   TSW is simply one of the best initial MMO experiences I have ever had.  Between this game and GW2 I truly believe we are experiencing a renaissance in MMO game development.   I just don't know what more you people want.  Oh wait...I get it....you've got a boner for some sandbox game that doesn't exist because nobody would want to play it.  Oh well, keep dreaming and hating you angry little people.

Well actually playing TSW made me realise that GW2's stories are for kids compared to TSW story...

I actually like the graphics and artstyle of TSW better then GW2.

Despite the higher polygon count and such TSW outperformed GW2 on my PC.

Still overall GW2 is the better game, because of all those other things that matter.

But the setting and the story of TSW are probably my favourite so far in MMORPG's.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations)
Currently playing : The Elder Scrolls Online

Negative I am hyped as hell for GW2 still but this weekends TSW beta test sold me on the game.  The Questing and Character skill wheel deck system is 2nd to none and I have cancelled by D3 pre-order a day before that game comes out.

I understand that TSW isnt for everyone as its a rather niche title but for me its a godsend.  Saturday Night my wife pulled up a kitchen chair next to my compter desk and actually watched me play TSW for 4 straight hours (she is a huge horror/Stephen King Geek) so now after 21 years of marriage and 14 of those with me being a hardcore gamer she actually wants to play her first MMO.  That alone is enough for me to be estatic, my wife actually wanting to be apart of my favorite hobby.  I could care less about any percieved issues the game has.  Which it has none, it was actually more stable for me then GW2's 1st BWE.  Everything else is pure personal preference.

ITs funny you say that...There was a beta write up from one of the writers at Ten Ton Hammer, and he basically said that GW2 isnt all that great of a game.....I think alot of people here havent actually played it and think it is some kind of messiah game, but I really have my doubts.

I have put a lot of time into GW2 and it deserves most of all the hype its getting unlike SWTOR.. but either way with some tweaks I think TSW could have a pretty decent playerbase behind it.

I found TSW's world to be rather lifeless with NPC's and Mobs most just standing still. A living gameworld is just as important to me as gameplay as it adds a level of immersion that can't be achieved in any other way. It can have the best of graphics, but if it is soulless the graphics won't help at all.

Nah people been sick of questing for a while at least a year maybe 3.  GW2 Open beta just made it more pronounced.

Everyone who is waiting for GW2 is dooming TSW for not being GW2.

There's plenty of great elements in the game. Read the biased preview I wrote for example 8)

Nah people been sick of questing for a while at least a year maybe 3.  GW2 Open beta just made it more pronounced.

I don't think that people are tired of questing. Give them an mmorpg without quests and I'm pretty sure that noone will touch it. What happened is that the quests have deteriorated in importance or that tasks have been wrongly elevated into quest status. So instead of having some meaningful questing and perhaps some side taks, everything became a side task. So in turn, everything lost its appeal and became a chore.

What happens with GW2 and other recent games, TSW included, is that they try to elevate questing back into their original meaninful status. Dynamic events that affect part of the world in GW2, missions that require thinking to be solved in TSW are among the things that can potentially invigorate the genre.

Quests are not dead, not in themepark games like GW2 or TSW, that's for sure.
