Here's what I'm thinking of:
UI is pure first person. Maybe 3rd person vanity cam available, but not in combat.
ASDW movement, W run, S backstep, A sidestep (strafe) left, D sidestep (strafe) right.
Some key (which? maybe tab) assigned to switch mouse from mouse-look (steers character) and mouse pointer mode (for UI interaction). Mouse pointer mode locks out click to attack for sanity (so one doesn't stand there attacking while moving items around in inventory).
Left click - Weapon swing main hand (1h main or 2h) Right click:
Numeric keys can be assigned as:
F Keys:
Offensive spells, attacks and abilities are all aimed. There is no tab-target at all (maybe use tab for mouse toggle?)
Melee attacks are area of weapon swing and hit ALL targets in range, except if they block / dodge.
Click target is used for skills like pickpocket, interact with vendor, etc.
I'm not sure about dodge as a skill. I'm thinking having it as a special ability that lasts 2 seconds but locks out attacking. If hit while dodge is active the attack fizzles (maybe a dice roll based on attacker skills and defender's dodge skill?)
Thoughts? What MMOs have decent first person twitch combat and a good keymapping layout? How are they different from this?
