I'm honestly curious about this. Guild Wars 2 seems to be resonating heavily with what the MMO community in general desires. It seems like it'll be a very successful game. What would happen if GW2 becomes the new MMO standard? Basically, the successor to WoW? Do you think that seven years from now we'll be complaining about how every MMO out there is a "GW2 Clone" just like we do today with "WoW clones"? |

Yeah, we will. Omg imagine if the MMO market doesn't move f*cking anywhere from this year in the next 7 years. =.= It cannot slow down that sickeningly much... can it? Did it really with WoW? 7!?! WTF?!!? Oh lord, kill me now. |

Given the slow evolution of MMOs I doubt it and this game isn't one to burn you out after a few months. I would put it more on par with DAoc longivity since the game has depth and challenging content with fantastic WvW. |

Will I hate GW2? No. Will I hate devs for trying to copy it instead of making something new? Yes. |

If it's succesful... then we'll see a new crop of games copying features like dynamic events, WvW and equalized structured PvP. Then in a few years we'll be saying things like "oh, look... yet another GW2 clone"... Then we'll be discussing about how we're sick of GW2 and heralding every new game as a revolution to the industry and the thing that will finally kill GW2 (all this while still playing, but of course complaining about it on every single forum). Then we'll probably see a game like TOR 2 or WoW 2 that will be succesful and the cycle will start again.. :) Cue Elton John.. ."In the circle... the circle of liiiiifeeeeeeeee!!!!".. :) What can men do against such reckless hate? |

GW2 is gonna be super popular for about 3-6 months. Once people have experienced the majority of content they're interested in they will probably take a break and wait for the first xpac. I think you'll see that trend for a couple of years but seven is pushing it. I think the game will still be around in seven years but most players will have moved on. Did I just get trolled?? Oh well |

Originally posted by Betaguy You obviously have no expertise in cognitive reasoning. there is no subscription all they have have to do is keep selling boxes and pumping up updates and expantions. Guild Wars released in April 2005, 7 years later it is still around and they are making a sequel, why would it not be around for a while. Not saying it most definately will last 7+ years but it will be around for a fews years to come reguarless of whether you or I still play it. |

Ultima Online is still around and loved after 13+ years. EQ 1 is still alive and kicking. Good games have staying power. MMO History: |

I'm sure it can and will be improved upon in 7 years time. Maybe we'll be playing GW3 by then and think that the few vets still playing GW2 should really get with the times. I can barely imagine something staying entertaining for 7 years time. We'll surely hate it if it fails. So many people have such high hopes for it. |

If I like it this year, I see no reason why I wouldn't in seven years from now. I never liked WOW, so it's no wonder I do not like it now. I can't think of a game or style of game I liked seven years ago but hate today. I loved SWG in 03, and would still love that game today or a game like it. Originally posted by AegisSaga Ive said it time and time again, I feel in my heart of hearts that GW2 will be the next WoW. Because of this I feel that many MMO's in the future will copy GW2 and in 7 years we will be going on about how a particular game is just a GW2 clone. Which is sad because I loved WoW once upon a time and I am sure in 7 years if history repeats itself like it always does then I will lathe GW2 as well because of the lack of creativity in the genre. |

Originally posted by Mythios11 If people have experienced everything this game has to offer in 3-6 months, be it: All the classes, races, personal storys, quests, WvW, Dynamic Events and anything else, then they are playing the game wrong and will quit anyway. You seem to neglect talking about how the original game is still going strong. Hell, it has more players than most freshly launched MMOs. In fact, the original probably has enough content in it to rival MMOs that have been going for 7+ years already and people who play GW know this, and that is why they love playing it. As far as 7 years go, that will be up to ArenaNet if it can survive. If they can keep the game updated with content and expansions it will be easily survive. If it can push around updates within a couple months that will please most people. I just hope they don't get lazy like some other companies *cough*Blizzard*. Putting out a content update every 6+ months is just ridiculous, and the sad part is, the people who play the game don't mind. |

To the OP, we haven't seen the best of what themeparks can do. I feel like public questing is still in it's infancy. Guild Wars 2 and it's dynamic event system is the first major evolution of public quests from when Warhammer introduced them back in '08, but we still see obvious limitations to them. If we see anything resembling a Guild Wars 2 clone, it will be because Guild Wars 2 truly showcased the potential of public quesing technologies and content.
