Originally posted by Sovrath My big concern isn't Funcom actually, but rather the limitations on the lore making too "small" of a game to be really interesting in the long term. Scope (possibly) just too limited, in other words. A lot of people seem to bank all of their expectations on one $50-60 game puchase being entertaining for life. In most (all?) cases, it's a hopeless hope. |

The weekend beta is not under NDA but the general beta is. Any beta info not from the weekend (or posting it early) we come across will be removed until then.
So asking posters to give details won't fly just yet. Patience, guys. To give feedback on moderation, contact community@mmorpg.com |

This thread is kind of funny. Why are most of the people here treating a closed beta as a final product? From what I recall, when anyone said anything bad about the last Guild Wars 2 beta, like a lot of people said that it was still in beta and that it was ok :P. Ah people with double standards :P. Also, as for the animations this is what the developers said, "Making animations for over 500 abilities is quite the task, therefore we have to use some placeholder animations on some of the abilities when showing a game still in production. We are working on it, and it will be amazing". I think it's too early to judge this game, and apparently 90% of the people from the older betas are going to be playing the game after launch according to some research they have done, there is a video where they talk about it. |

I liked MMOs better when gamers didn't play them, and just geeks did. |

My past experience with Funcom, as well as the horrid gameplay videos I've seen for TSW are keeping me away from this one for now. I look forward to hearing how the game is coming along after this weekend. The fact that they are only letting you into one faction a month from release is just one of many red flags to come I'm guessing. Originally posted by Searias Well, the game is out in what, 5 weeks? That's not a lot of time to make adjustments. What you are seeing in this BWE will probably be quite close to the release product. "Loading screens" are not "instances". |

lol...wait. So basically what you are saying is. If the story is fine, the gameplay doesnt matter? Sorry, but if a game has PvP, it needs to have meaning. If a game is lacking in "enter catagory" im going to want to know. If a games crafting sucks, I am going to want to know. You know, SWTOR has a great story...freaking FANTASTIC story...the game itself still has a massive blackhole and plays like a single player game online...Age of Conan has a rich detailed story and lore...the game still sucked. But you were right in the end. Anyone looking at the details of the game are going to be highly dissapointed. “I hope we shall crush...in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country." ~Thomes Jefferson |

umm, I'm a huge gw2 fanboi, but Anet has never, ever, announced a release date. That June 26 date is from gamestop. Anet today again said that there is no release date after amazon's german site said that they had a september 28 release date. There is no release date for GW2. |

I bet the closed beta they have going on right now is mostly for stress testing, and the weekend beta testing is just for marketing purposes. |

Originally posted by Searias This argument always cracks me up. I've heard this same argument/excuse about every MMO a month out from launch. There is never a miracle patch. They aren't going to fix major bugs in the next 6 weeks that they couldn't iron out over the last 6 months. I'm sure the regular CB build is a build or two ahead of what the weekenders will see this week, but it's still not going to be a whole lot different than what is released on June 19th. |

Originally posted by Darth_Osor Yet from what I remembered, the ongoing closed beta build for AoC was totally different from the one they finally released. For one, it had DX10 and the release build only had DirectX9. But, it doesn't really matter anyways, everyone has their own tastes and I am sure there is always going to be people who is going to like TSW. Even the OP is a SWTOR fan himself :P. |

I guess you haven't been in enough betas. I've been in quite a few MMO betas where this exact thing happened - some kind of massive "miracle" patch that addressed many major issues a month (sometimes a week!) before launch.
One I can remember very clearly was TR, two months from launch the game was bug-riddled, laggy and nearly unplayble. About 2-3 weeks before launch - BOOM - massive patch that fixed majority of bugs, lag and even added new features. Result? Very stable and polished launch. Same thing with Rift - although Rift was a lot more polished - there was a few MASSIVE patches that addressed many of the major concerns and then launch went very smoothly. The same thing has happened in quite a few betas in my experience. The only thing that's impossible to fix is bad game design - that is why i have virtually no hope for TOR - it may be a nearly flawless and polished product, but the base design precludes it from ever being improved into a game that's actually worthwhile unless a total overhaul of the game is done.
Still, this means nothing for TSW. For every game that HAD a miracle patch, there were games that didn't and launched broken. Will just have to wait and see.
