PvP in this game boils down to higher level=instant win. you pretty much have no chance of winning no matter how skilled you are as long as the player fighting you has even just a couple of levels higher than you (even 1 puts you at a severe disadvantage).
what the game does is that it artificially greatly increases the amount of dmg you do against lower players and greatly decreases the amount of dmg you take against lower level players. Players 3 lvls higher will do roughly 20% more damage while having a SIGNIFICANTLY higher crit rate. Lower level players have a SIGNFICANTLY lower crit rate against you. what makes matters worse is that several of the classes are "late bloomers" meaning your character sucks at pvp until late to end game. Now you can see why noob ganking especially horrific in this game. If you are lower level you cant really do anything except sit there and die.

Thank you for that heads up. I have the game ordered and will remember that. It's to bad you are posting your experiences with the game honestly and you will be flamed for it. What do you think is the best to solo with? Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

While this doesn't surprise me (seemed this way in beta as well), I'm a little dissapointed in the responses in the thread you linked. Instead of being treated like a problem, it's being hailed as 'great design' which is just /facepalm worthy. In a game w/ open PvP that is supposed to be 'skill-based', these things matter. At the very least, I hope they add more to the infamy system. Either PKs lose gold on death, or guards can attack them in towns, or have a jail system. They could maybe even tie it into the nexus system they are promising. |

I saw the online gamer Melonie Mac streaming earlier. Someone was watching her stream and since they knew where she was, they were ganking her endlessly. It was a level 60 I think she said (I don't know what max level in Tera is). That's just uncalled for though. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

It is an issue they need to address, idk why the scaling thats for Pve is in PvP as well. Thing is Koreans don't PvP until lvl cap and they don't pk (not lower lvl or even same lvl) so i think thats why they kinda just never saw it as a problem until it hit NA. Also if some one is like 60 (capped) and your liek 55- well even w/o the scaling you can't do much about it like most games lol. And also if some one is like following you to pk you, fraps it or something and you can get them banned. PKing is ok but when you start stalking some one to kill him/her thats harassment. |

the funny thing is if you comment in the slightest in the game, you get only this response "go play on a pve server"

yup, TERA PvP is no more skill based than WoW. Levels + gear > skill |

Game has been out for 7 days. Would you all agree that they should be given a least a tiny bit of time to address before the mass hate? Just wondering. |

Isn't a community like that going to have an effect on player retention? "Loading screens" are not "instances". |

Originally posted by Praetalus That's assuming that the situation isn't similar to the Korean/other regions versions of TERA, who have played the game much longer. If those versions have the same issue, then they have had plenty of time to do something. If those versions don't, then yes they deserve a chance to fix it. |

This was pretty apparent in the open beta tests they did. As much as I loved the combat system and the graphics I pretty much hated everything else. |

But that's the case in 99% of the MMORPGs. Player with higher level > player with lower level. And when they have roughly the same level: Player with better equipment > player with worse equipment.
That's why I don't like PvP in MMORPGs. 90% of the time it's not about who is the better player, but simply who invested more time (or, in F2P games, who invested more money). Since I got a fulltime job, I can't invest as much time as many others. Which means I'd lose most of the time. Which means I rather stick to games like TF2 for PvP. Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 265 episodes) Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes) |

Originally posted by gessekai332 PvP is a game dependant on level and/or gear, is not and never will be skill based, by definition. This is why GW2 is the first MMO that actually did it right by copying design from TF2 (but the general idea applies to any other shooter/rts really) and providing all with special PvP characters and same gear (with minimal mods). Adding more penalties to Infamy I think would work the most. Maybe with the political system they will allow you to put out infamy bounties. That would be fun.
Other than that, changing channels seems to work for me. I never get ganked in the 5 - 10 channels. Channel one is horrible. |

Originally posted by maji except its even more exaggerated in the game where skill was supposed to matter. In games like WoW a good player would beat an average player several levels above him. In TERA its not really possible. |

Originally posted by gessekai332 You can copy this and post it on every games forum that have PvP servers... Sadly this is the disadvantage of levelbased mechanics, they were not really designed with PvP in mind from the beginning. To make stuff like this even close to fair you need a better way to progress and a lot lower gap between noobs and vets. I would love a translation of the mechanics from Warhammer fantasy RPG into a MMO. You could have posted this in general, it is a general MMO problem. Open world PvP and character progressionrarely work well together. |
