How could they do a skyrim type of housing more simple than EQ2, if it's not instanced and people sharing homes? This is from page 2.

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/4974716#4974716

You know... so we can clear up the confusion you stirred in that "other" thread.

you are adding your own personal assumed parameters. nobody said, implied or otherwise anything about not instanced. you literally pulled that out of your a$$ even though I was explict in my question you decided to arbitrarly add things

I just don't know of any other way to accommodate Skyrim style housing toward 1000's of players. I was using EQ2 as an example of why I'd prefer none really over what was in EQ2. Skyrim FO3 and oblivion are not prone to the problem I pointed out with EQ2's style of instanced housing in an MMO, so they're irrelevant. We're not discussing a single player implementation of that.

Skyrim style housing is EQ2 housing but taking OUT the ablity to move thing around.

You are assuming that it must be non-instanced when I asked my question and I for the life of me do not see how you got that impression.

Having said that non-instanced housing IS F*CKING EASY. Darkfall has it and they are a 3rd rate development company with greek currency for christ sake.

What? this back and forth spawned from where I said I don't like instanced style housing like in EQ2, if I'm talking about EQ2, how am I even thinking about non-instanced? You're losing me here.

Here I'll post the post that spawned this again.

"Speaking for myself only I think the EQ2 style is a horrible design and completely unimerssive. As someone who loved my house in SWG, trying out EQ2's housing was a huge letdown. So many things to say about it from the fact that 1000's of people shared my apartment an apartment that had one room at that, to an apartment building with 10 rooms having 500 people standing around the lobby."

let me try again.

My headline by me (parahprased):  'why not make the MMO housing like Skyrim is now, its actually less sophisticated that EQ2 and they can do it'

your response: I dont like EQ2 housing

my response: is it then safe for me to assume that you also dont like Skyrim housing

your resonse: 'you cant make it without instances;

In your question you asked why not make it a simpler version of EQ2's and that was my response to that,  my response to your "you don't like skyrim housing then?" was "Uhm why would any of those things effect a SP game?" IE: Skyrim's housing doesn't have the same problem as EQ2's because it's single-player therefor there are not 100 people sharing the same exact house.

The next response the one I linked was in response to your next question after that.

If you're going to ask questions at least keep track of them.

thats pretty lame.

Never mind the second issue that non-instance housing is not a problem.

What's lame I have my own opinion of instanced style housing (in an MMO) and do not share yours? If your answer is yes, that's what is lame.

darkfall has no problems with it, its simple.

besides to be completely frank I really dont think instanced or non-instanced housing is a deal breaker for anyone other than fringe. i mean seriously...really? if i cant have instance I dont want any house?

To be frank and very careful I think anyone who say they would rather have no house at all rather than an instanced house is flat out liying to themsevles

I can't comment on Darkfalls housing, I've never used it.

As I said speaking for myself only about EQ2, I didn't expect you to share my view.

To me housing is a device for immersion. IF it's implemented in an unimmersive way, I really don't see the point in it. Doesn't mean you have to agree. You could at least accept and respect my opinion though.

well assuming for a moment that the housing in the smash hit game called Skyrim is how TES players at least 'like it' how is it a housing system that is more basic than EQ2 hard to do 'as players want it'?

I can understand them coping out with the same excuse that Bioware did when trying to tackle the housing issue. I mean they are trying to push this game out as quickly as possible so they can capitalize on the WoW phenomenon before it fizzles out. I'd rather they "keep it real" than to include the insulting half azzed attempt that EQ2 called housing. That's not housing. That's called corner cutting to add more features under your belt to for the easily impressed to brag about. No thank you in either case.

lets put a few facts on the table so its all transparent.

1. you dont like skyrim housing system if it was in an mulitplayer game. I assume (and correct me if I am wrong) you do like it if its in a single player game.

2. '..as players want..' dosent imply non-instanced housing, they needed to be clear, not evasive. I for one couldnt care less if the housing is instanced or not. I think that entire subject of non-instanced is retarded. That said, this is my opinion

3. non-instance housing is not hard to do, it works well in Darkfall (and this is not an opinion there isnt that much to it to evaulate on). So this entire conversation of it not being possible, realistic, or cost effective is pure bullsh(t

1 You're assuming wrong, my problem isn't with a load screen to enter the house, it's with sharing houses in a way like EQ2 did, which is the only way I could see it being implemented Skyrim style into an MMO (one house on elm street for 500 people). Like I said Skyrim doesn't have that problem

2. I agree they could be more forthcoming, and less evasive. All we have as posters to know what they mean, is our own conjecture.

3. I'm not an MMO dev. Again all I can add to that is conjecture. And I'm not going to bother because this convo will continue forever.

in darkfall you open the door and 1000 people can enter it if you want. If you like you can bash down the door yourself and have you and your 1000 friends walk in and kill everyone inside. Its simple, easy, possible and cost effective and you dont have be a developer to figure it out.

correction and clarification you dont want a insulting half azzed attempt like Skyrim has.

They are effectly the same only skyim has less features

Well keep in mind though you also have to create enough land for it and have a game world that works with it. With their talk of zones It doesn't sound like they do. That interview didn't sound as though this is a true open world game.

look I will be fair I am making assumptions but so are you. Have you entertained the idea that perhaps we are right, perhaps they are just liying and blowing crap up our azz?

Of course I consider that, that's always a possibility with gaming

In the age of games like Planetside 2, land-/zonesize should not be an issue (i still can't believe how large that game is).

Of course provided you have the engine for it, but im not going to go into speculation on what Hero Engine can or can not do because i dont know an exact answer to this question.

But it has been shown to work at least with -some- games, so its more a question of effort or budget.
