Yup Tera is nothing special its why i didnt bother buying it.. Same goes for GW2 its just the same old presented to you slighty different.. at the end of the day its a Themepark MMORPG waht do you expect..

Me I tend to only play Sandbox games as they offer so much more... to me even games like MO and Darkfall are leaps ahead of GW2 or Tera..

But thats my opinion we all like different things.

its too good of a game to just die

however it is not good enough to succeed as p2p

therefore, it will go f2p in the near future

Developers forgot what made mmos special. Until we get that back the genre wont move forward.

I have to agree. I posted a comment a couple weeks ago about seeing this game go F2P.

It reminds me of Aion as well, but a bit more poorly implemented. I like the combat except for the stop and cast.

Interesting scenery in the horizon but not so much up close. I can see the potential, but I can tell they are not going to do anythign with this game.

Think about it...if it's been out a year already and it's not even in the states so they can't up and change things...what do you think will happen.

I have to say I'm liking a certain other MMo that I'm testing atm, which shall not be named and its not GW2. After that and GW2 comes out...yeah I can honestly say this game will be on the short list really quick.

I agree. I think even Aion is still ticking so yeah I don't see Tera completely falling off...take this in point

Vanguard was a great game and it had crap sub numbers...and yet it's still ticking.

Anyone remember Alganon....exactly...if not look it up, you will be plesantly surprised. Oh there were great concepts to the game but oh so bad a almost direct off shoot of world of warcraft. I think that is still ticking...so yeah Tera won't die...

It's a themepark, in a market saturated with themeparks.

In fact, GW2 would also become free to play after a  6/ 9 months / a year or more if it was P2P.

TSW... SWTOR... B&S... Those are all future f2p's

Just get used to it, every themepark MMO that is coming out will also become F2P, or even worse... a ghost town P2P MMO like WAR.

HEre u go with this bs again, it's an RPG, that's your reason against it. The rpg genere is the only reason the MMORPG came. Com to think of it, outside of Eve, is there ANY other sandbox game even remotely near a top ten games, in any catagory?

Just real stupid to come into an MMORPG forum and clown the game for its RPG elements.  And then attempt to tote how u want civilication elements in rpg games and that will make the rpg better. No, that will just add civilization elements into the game

If you rank a games success by periods of SUBSTAINED subs the top MMOs in the west would look somethng like this

WoW

EQ

EVE <--- sandbox

SWG (pre CU) <---- sandbox

these are clearly the top 4

UO <---- sandbox

LOTRO

DAoC

these are pretty close together, but this is the clear top 7

Id say sandboxes are well represented, and only 2 of the top 7 are pure themeparks.  Anyone who tries to call EQ a themepark is clueless as to what a themepark is (although its not a sandbox either)

Everyone knows there is more to a game than just some combat gimick. Tera doesn't have the gameplay or depth to keep people playing.

I agree with you OP. I played the game in beta, and I just picked up a collector's edition key to give it another go. The only thing that I like about the game is how you can assign your favorite primary/secondary attacks to your right/left mouse buttons. I know that you can do this in other games, but Tera has two hotbar slots to auto assign them.

But...it ends there. The graphics are good , but not amazing. The game honestly looks and feels like Aion to me. If you could take those two games (without Elin race) and combine them, you would have a definite F2P winner.

I can't help but feel like the people that say this game is exactly like Aion are the same ignorant retards that call all Asians Chinese.

The game failed in it's native country, I doubt it will have any staying power in North America.

Hmm, it's not that it failed, but rather it didn't do as well as expected. However, how it does in the Korean market doesn't neccessarily indicate how it will do overseas. Take for example Aion. That game is still going strong in Korea, yet it didn't do well overseas to the point where they've switched to a F2P model.

And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"

He didn't say it's exactly the same, just looks and feel. The looks are pretty hard to argue, the combat should feel different though.

After playing to level 32 I got really bored with this game, it really doesn't add much new to the genre of MMOs other than the combat, which even that we've all seen in games like DCUO and AoC.

There is so many problems with Tera, I don't even know where to start really.

1.) The game doesn't add anything new other than the combat which even that like I said is something we've seen before.

Name a proper open world MMO with this combat system

2.) The game's graphics aren't THAT great, I mean sure it's better than most but it's nowhere near like something you'd see in Crysis or BF3.

Comparing MMO gfx to single player top end gfx? Wow, you sure are objective

3.) The difficulty is too low for most classes, the only challenging ones I've really played seemed to be priest and even that isn't all that hard.

Name a MMO that you feel is "hard" or challenging for you

4.) The bosses are too generic, same thing we've seen in WoW only made prettier and a bit more detail.

Is the next gen mmo like GW2 or SWTOR doing anything different in boss design?

5.) The races - The elin race is by far the most offensive thing I've seen in this game, seriously it's a childlike character that's very revealing I mean wth is up with people? The other thing is that almost every other female character is very revealing as well. Same could go for the males, unless you're bakara or human.

Cultural shock much eh. Well welcome to the country call earth where anime is a big hit in the eastern side of the neighbourhood

6.) The questing - They advertise it as a NEW breed of MMO, yet I still pick up quests, go here go there, collect this kill that, same bs as in every generic MMO.

I agreed, thou i find BAM hunting and other PVE challenges more can compensate for it. Even SWTOR is just fedex and kill x  quest with cinematic

7.) Channels and small areas - Seriously the game is way too small to where they had to impliment channels/zones for players, a MMO should NOT have that.

Compare to having 60 server and then merge after 2 month....i perfer this thank you

8.) Mounts - Only the pre-order/CE mounts and the default ones, pretty lame that there couldn't be more of a variety.

There are other mount from guild reward or battleground

9.) Armor - There's different armor, sure, but they all look the same for set levels which just makes the customization/styles of characters very limited.

There's remodel system in place for that. And there's multiple armor design for any given level

10.) The monthly fee - After all the above stated, this game lacks the quality and features for $15 a month.

Feel free to not pay it but the developer have the right to sell their product however they like and people who enjoy it are willing to pay for it.

I feel slightly cheated, yet at the same point not surprised.

After all the video and beta weekend? Wow i don't think anyone cure you from stupidity

There's quite a bit more smaller complaints about this game I have, but I just wanted to cover the main ones in this Review/Impression.

QQ + troll post in other thread = can't take you seriously

My advice would be to wait for a free trial for this game and try it out if you're even considering TERA.

I personally just feel the game is atrocious and not deserving of the $15 month fee PLUS the $50 price tag.

So don't play it, i'm sure the developer feel that they don't have the obligation to provide free game for you ^^

Well, lets welcome all the new people on the forum. Lets see ...

  • I think most people are confusing single player games with mmorpgs and fail to realise how different beasts those two can be. Tera's combat has not been seen anywhere else in any other mmorpg that features an open seamless world and collision detection, sorry to say. Some people say that GW2 might have the same features, but still, GW2 is not out yet.
  • The game graphics are the best in the market atm as far as mmorpgs are concerned. There is simply no comparison, especially if you have a decent machine to back them up. They are also quite impressive considering that, again, the game world is a seamless one.
  • The bosses ... are you referring to BAMs or dungeon bosses? They do play differently than your run of the mill scripted mmorpgs. Instead of playing a highly scripted encounter, the BAMs and dungeon bosses have abilities that use them depending on what your party is doing. No one fight is the same as any other.
  • The elins are made this way because it is culturaly what easterners expect to play. The majority there play either the lolis or the anthropomorphic. The fixation to the childlike appearance is a western thing, one that should worry the people that find those avatars sexually appealing.
  • Your complain about questing is all made up. Noone hyped the game about the questing, quite the opposite. Plenty of people warned here (including myself) that Tera features a hub like questing, one that you can find in games like WoW (BC expansion), LOTRO, Rift and various other mmorpgs.
  • The game is quite big. Still channels are a necessity for newly designed games that want to cram as many people as possible to the same server. Unlike games like EVE, landmass is finite in games like Tera. Make them too big and you don't see people anywhere, make them too small and everyone is on top of each other. Or perhaps make them with multiple channels so once the initial rush goes away the channel number drops and the people still have a fun time. I can confirm that areas past level 40 have only one channel atm.
  • Mount variation is limited, but it's something that can be easily rectified. There are other more important things currently missing from the game.
  • Monthly fee and mmorpgs came hand to hand, because they promoted equality. Suddenly GW2 discovered the cash shop and monthly fee is mysteriously something bad and the cash shop ok to have. Weird times indeed.

Regarding our other friends and his complaints.
  • Every time you die you spawn to the town in the continent you're in. Each town has a teleporter NPC that can transform you to the nearest outpost camp. From that point on it's usually no more than a couple minutes to reach the point where you died. The 20mins number is grossly exaggerated and innacurate.
  • When you die you have three options. Wait near a campfire to restore your stamina, which is the cheapest option, drink a stamina potion or pay the healer NPC in the continental town to restore your stamina. It all depends on how much in a rush you are.
  • The occassional dumpass will go on a power trip and kill lowbies, but that's to be expected on a PvP server. Mind you, those people that accumulated infamy by being that stupid are not having a good time in their own zones.
  • Yes, PvP is unbalanced when there is a level difference, as it is in all level based games.
  • Questing is your run of the mill quest hub system, nothing to be overly excited about but nothing wrong with it either. The main quest is rather interesting btw.
  • Yes, teleporting to town is a one way trip. To get back you can either use a scroll or for now use the unstuck feature.
  • You can either complain on the above or the unstuck usage, not both. Unstuck for now is used as a heartstone feature of other games.
  • If you are in a dungeon and die, you wait for your healer to rezz you or a party member to use a rezz scroll. You obviously don't release.
  • Haven't put any serious effort into crafting to comment, sorry.
  • Questing complaints, see above.
  • Mob tagging is not something new. If you're on a PvP server, kill the asshat.
  • To see a BAM that people are targetting, target the monster yourself, press E and click it
  • Press alt to enter the menu mode, click on a player and a menu with options will appear. Different than the run of the mill mmorpgs but still functional. I can see how it could be a problem if the player is running around though.
  • Player font seems fine to me, not sure what the problem is.
  • The tutorial at level 20 is to give you an idea of all classes. The idea is that you don't have to level every class to 20 to see if it fits you, but you can play it directly there and decide if you want to level it normally.
  • Welcome to the era of quest trackers. If an mmorpg does not have this feature, it is considered a flaw.

Having said all the above, this game is obviously niche and will never gather the big numbers that more casual friendly mmorpgs will get. Still, it has it's market appeal and will keep people entertained for a period.

Questing is your run of the mill quest hub system, nothing to be overly excited about but nothing wrong with it either. The main quest is rather interesting btw. Yes, teleporting to town is a one way trip. To get back you can either use a scroll or for now use the unstuck feature. You can either complain on the above or the unstuck usage, not both. Unstuck for now is used as a heartstone feature of other games. If you are in a dungeon and die, you wait for your healer to rezz you or a party member to use a rezz scroll. You obviously don't release. Haven't put any serious effort into crafting to comment, sorry. Questing complaints, see above. Mob tagging is not something new. If you're on a PvP server, kill the asshat. To see a BAM that people are targetting, target the monster yourself, press E and click it Press alt to enter the menu mode, click on a player and a menu with options will appear. Different than the run of the mill mmorpgs but still functional. I can see how it could be a problem if the player is running around though. Player font seems fine to me, not sure what the problem is. The tutorial at level 20 is to give you an idea of all classes. The idea is that you don't have to level every class to 20 to see if it fits you, but you can play it directly there and decide if you want to level it normally. Welcome to the era of quest trackers. If an mmorpg does not have this feature, it is considered a flaw.

Having said all the above, this game is obviously niche and will never gather the big numbers that more casual friendly mmorpgs will get. Still, it has it's market appeal and will keep people entertained for a period.

This quote is the only reply I need. I feel like most people go into this game expecting to hate it and then get mad when they actually hate it and come rant on MMORPG. This is the second time I have seen the OP bashing the graphics and I don't understand. What game has better graphics than this that is a MMORPG? Quit comparing graphics to a Console game that has been optimized for a stupid console. If you want your FPS shooter style keep playing your bland BF3. Everyone that calls out fanboy for anyone who defends this game is a hypocrite as well. Flaming people for not liking a game just because you haven't found one you enjoy as much isn't productive. I agree on some points with the OP like the questing and quest hubs weren't the best. I don't agree on poor graphics or combat like AOC at all.

I'm loving the game so far :3

If you don't like it, then don't bloody play it. Whining and putting all of your opinions into bullet points isn't wanted or needed.

I like and play the game and so does everyone else I've came across.

actually people who don't have the game and didn't get a chance to play beta may want a heads up before they throw down 50 bucks for a game.. so saying someone's opinion about a game on a gaming forums is silly. Wasn't aware you were only allowed to post positive feedback on games... I mean continually bashing a game is one thing but just offering a thought out opinion is not only welcomed but I'd say encouraged.. much better than the game sucks!! or game rocks!! posts

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall.
