Twitch-based, you know, from fighter games where you're in a cockpit and use a joystick to shoot enemies yourself instead of just selecting a ship with your mouse and clicking on the enemy to attack it. If you've heard of or played "Descent: Freespace" and "Freespace 2" (WHEN IS FREESPACE 3 COMING OUT?? THOSE GAMES WERE SO DARN GOOD!!!), then you'll know what I mean. I want to see twitch-based play along with the current kind of play in EVE, and so do many other players. |

I have a very strong feeling that this will never happen. To change the game to twitch base, you would need to change almost all of the gameplay. Think about it...all of the weapons use several different variables to determine if it will hit or not. All of the movement controls rely on the right click menu. In my guess, eve will never have twitch based gameplay. You're going to have to go elsewhere for that, or hope that the next space-based mmorpg has twitch based gameplay. |

biggest issue with twitch for any mmo is that lag, pure and simple; eve was originaly designed to accomodate 56k dialup users, so the use of non twitch was essential. 2nd point is that as eve has been out for almost 2 years and 1 year of beta testing and 2-3 years of planning / building .. it is unlikely to suddenly become twitch, it is what it is. eve is not a flight sim, its a space conquest / economic game. some suggestions might get into the game, but i htink this one and landing on planets / stations are not likely, the devs will spend their time bringing in new ships / equipment / structures / new technologies / races / areas of the game / types of commerce / corp & alliance protocols / lv 5 missions / new skills NOT major game engine / design changes. perhaps EvE II |

EVE is not a twitch game and I hope it never becomes one. It is wildly successful as it is now, why should it change? |

You must be really bored not being able to play eve, because you just replied to a YEAR old thread.
(if a game comes out exactly like EVE but twitch based added onto the strategy? CYA EVE! |

Yes, I miss my EVE I think what you would like would be a “Privateer” MMORPG game. Privateer is one of the coolest games ever made. It had stations, jumpgates, warp drives, lasers, missiles, bombs, pirates, good-guys, bad-guys, etc… and you got to pilot your own ship with a joystick! I actually thought EVE was going to be more like that before I started playing. |

I was expecting something similar to Freelancer, myself, which is also an action based game. However, combat in Eve happens way too far away for any kind of manual aiming to work. Or, at least, compete with the non-twitch gaming style. |

Good news, fellow pilots. Unfortunately, not so good that I can offer you a twitch-based combat model in EVE, but here's an alternative: Vendetta Online (http://www.vendetta-online.com) is a twitch-based MMORPG set in space, developed by Guild Software, a team of just four fellas. Though the game is not considered to be in beta any more, the game is far from ready for realease. However, the community is rather (but not too) mature, and absolutely wonderful (yep, fellow VO pilots, even Genka has his moments), the combat mechanics make for the most exciting PvP I've ever experienced, and the game features some truly exciting planned features (among those player-owned and destructible stations, planet landings and a player-accessible mission editor), some already in test and even production. The game is still hideously ugly when compared to EVE, has a rather small numbers of active players, and there is so much yet to be implemented, but on the other hand, the small developer base and small player base means it's possible to maintain a close contact with the devs. They log on daily and speak to the players, and more than half of the features already implemented has either been suggested by players, or improved upon in some way through player feedback. This is very rare among MMORPGs, and has strengthened my commitment to the game almost as much as the game itself ;-) The game also features a similar vision of gameplay as EVE (and other games such as Darkfall), with free PvP (no silly "magical defenses" or off-game limitations; only in-game consequences), many, many possibilities besides combat, a flexible economy, a rather diverse faction system with many AI factions (one even constantly expanding and competing with players for resources and space), and the possibility of actually affecting the universe through your actions in a significant manner. And best of all: while advanced equipment (and the wealth, licences and badges required to buy it) might affect combat, your own skill is what truly matters. It is entirely possible for a very talented new pilot to defeat a veteran, through luck, skill and wits. Possible, yes, though not likely, given the extreme speed of combat in the Vendetta universe, and the training times it takes to truly master combat piloting in Vendetta Online... (And you get to shoot at the devs when they are online. Most of the time, you'll win, since they don't have enough time to practice :-D ) |

Heh... lag in large fleet battles can be baaaad, twitch just wouldn't work with the EVE 1 game one server architecture. EVE combat makes me feel like a unit in homeworld, click the tactical display on and zoom right back. It's thought and planning that win the fight, not a 2 sec reaction time. |

Some people say im a virus. But i say they are the Virus, I am the cure. |
Main reson twitch combat is not in eve is that they have to make a game where thousands of people can play on one server at the same time with little or no lag. Twitch movement generates a lot more lag than point and click movement. And yes WHEN IS FREESPACE COMMING OUT AAAARRRGGGGGG |
