I'm scared for this game. As much as I love TES this could either be a godsend or a demon from hell. Good luck TES Online and I wish you the best. |

"Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm."
I was hoping it would be set closer to the current game just so there could be more overlap with already released and future games. I guess since you can change so much in the games it would take away from a lot of peoples experience if you had an NPC in the MMOG that you killed or married during your own play-through. |

Ugh...an MMO? Really...I would rather have a co-op version I can play with a few select friends. MMO's means that we'll have to deal with the dregs of gaming society. Guess we'll have to wait and see and get more details about what type of MMO ESO will be. I'll be watching it from a distance, but right now I am just bidding my time and waiting for AA. ![]() |

Havent really researched this, but Warcraft is the only MMO spinoff from another video game that was successful Maybe the 1st FF. Then again, How many others were attempted? WE now have ESO in production, there was also Final Fantasy, SWTOR, Myst Online, World of Warcraft to name a few. What else and which were successful? If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

not every thing should be made into a MMO there are so few games like the elder scroll series out there that have so much content that have a living breathing world that you really feel that you are a part of......i can count the number of games on one hand that are like this ....well now it's one less....... The flipside of anouncements like this is that the single player franchise is dead......so what we can have another fantasy MMO....we are runnig a bit short on those ? GW2 is the closest i need to skyrim already anyway as far as i am concerned.....so making a this franchise into a MMO i just see as the death of the elder scrolls series and ....another mmo ....to me that's something to be sad about. I have a ton of gamer friends that are just not a big fan of MMO's they live for games like the elder scrolls series ane now its gone....why... cause this would make more money....so no i am not happy.....i think this sucks all we need now is to make red dead redemption and the fallout series into MMO's and as far as i am concerned all the trully unique sandbox games that are single player .....are dead... |

I have absolutely no interest in this game. I do however hope that the company makes this game for role players, and makes it very clear throughout development that role players are whom the game is being made for. Maybe then the other 90 to 95% of mmo gamers can finally have some peace, and more importantly, get some games that flush out game play elements and features before release. Instead of getting overly weighed down in development and releasing unfinished and unsatisfactory to gamers because development teams listened to the much smaller, but much more vocal, role playing crowd crying for features that only role players care about. You know, like we've seen over the last 5 or 6 years. |

I must be the only person on the planet who didn't like Skyrim. I couldn't play it for more than 6 hours. I just hated how I could only cast 2 spells as a mage without pausing it. I didn't really find the combat to be very challenging either. Of course I will admit that Skyrim came out at around the same time as Dark Souls which ruined other single player rpgs for me. I did put in close to 100 hours in Morrowind though, so i recognize how these types of games can be fun. If they are going to make an mmorpg though they had better go sandbox, these type of games would fail pretty hard as themeparks. Are you a Pavlovian Fish Biscuit Addict? Get Help Now! |

PS: I swore myself that if the next TES will be like Skyrim, I will abandon the series.

The only reason people will play this MMO is because they are fans of the offline series.. not because the online version will be good.. look how much of a depature FFXI and FFXIV are from the rest of the series. Guild Wars 2 will be better. If they decide to go the dynamic event route instead of the boring tradtional quests then maybe they'll stand a chance. |

Are people really so jaded that when something like this is announced all they have to say is "Well this game, that game and this game sucked so this one will too"? One of the most common phrases i've read about The Elder Scrolls since Skyrim released was that people wished there would be an MMO. One is now coming so lets just see how it turns out rather than condemning it just... well just because. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. |

Well, one of DAOC's lead designers is in charge which is good news. I cross my fingers and hope they deliver a solid game. One which can draw me back to the fantasy setting. |

Originally posted by Kabaal Most aren't condeming it, it's simply a "I'm not ready to get excited about it just yet" and it's mainly because we don't have much information other than it's an MMO and it's coming out in 2013. |

Neat! Oblivion and Skyrim were the most immersive games I've ever played. Elder Scrolls themed MMO would be incredible if done right. I hope the team there will examine GW2 closely, since it is the first, true 'next gen' MMORPG in my opinion. |

NO! I am talking about developer's own IP, not someone else's. Ultima is definatley one, but not LOTRO. If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

In case you missed it, the verdict is in, SWTOR sucks. Personally, I played the first month and couldn't find a reason to log in anymore. GW2 will be popular for a while. But how long will instanced PvP really keep our interest? I played the beta. It's good but there are issues. It will be something to do, but not compelling enough to force people to log in if there's no endgame. Tera may not fail in the west but it's not going to break any records. It's a grinder.
The way ESO makes a significant impact is if it doesn't suck as bad as the three you named. They have more lore than Blizz did. They have a huge world. Three faction PvP is how it supposed to be done (now let's just hope there's no instanced PvP to kill the open world PvP). They write great stories. If it's even a little bit sandbox, it beats the socks off of anything else out right now. The others should be worried. The elephant just entered the room. |

I think That everyone who thinks this is a fail to start with needs to remember that the MMO genre is going through some PROFOUND changes right now. We're talking about Tera and GW2 as though they are the next gen, but they're stepping stones, and we're all pretty impressed with them for the most part. This game very well could achieve the player saturated, evolving world that realisticly, TES games should be. If the guards escorting the prisoner were players, and the prisoner was a player as well... how cool would it be to rescue the prisoner (in theory). All I see from announcements like this is a previous generation being upset that things change, and that generally change has been bad in recent years. However, the reason everything is beginning to convert to MMO status, is because MMOs are costly to do right, and need a large enough fan base to support continued development. THis is why Guild Wars 2 will do better than Guild Was 1, and why Titan will do better than WoW (almost without argument from most people). The industry has changed significantly since 2004 when MMOs really took front and center. Players are not satisfied with antiquated mechanics and a static world. The focus on the RPG part of the term "MMORPG" is truly needed, and TES could do that. I know GW2 is paying more attention to the RP elements of their game that a lot of games have in the past, and I believe that there will be a greater focus on players being able to modify the world, effectivly changing the way each server plays providing more of a sense of owenership than being able to say "Check out my purple armorz!"
We have no idea what MMORPGs are going to look like in 8 years. I know back in 2004 if you said WoW would still be going in 8 years, and would be generally the same with some new content, I would have doubted you, because thats a long time to stay the same- people are not satisfied with the status quo, and with the enormous bloom of seemingly "Good" titles, I don't think there will be a Juggernaut like WoW this time around. There's too much competition, and too much hype spread too widely to give any game the 2004 WoW status. I look forward to this next generation of MMOs, and I look forward watching (maybe playing) the video games my children will be player. My Dad played asteroid and thought it was absolutely amazing- he watched me play WoW and was completely overwhelmed with how it worked. I will watch my kids play some game in 15 years, and have a similar suprise at game development (although it wont be as extreme as the 80s to 90s to 00s shifts just because thats when it all started). Let these companies experiment, and be glad that they try new things and new ideas. The genre may be called the same thing, but that doesn't mean it will look or feel anything like what it used to look and feel like. Trying to compare Doom 1 to Battlefield 3 or MW3 would be dumb, but they're both FPSs. It takes flubs to make masterpieces, just like an art or science. Be optimistic, Good games today are better than Good games were 8 years ago (notice that I say good games, because generally games are worse, but the people who did it right then tend to do it better now.) ---------------- Also, Final Fantasy XI and XIV were not made for an american audience... thats why it sucks for us. We don't appreciate the same gameplay that Japan does- thats why every final fantasy game that comes out in america is significantly different in certain areas than the Japanese counter part. |
