Who ever said "Familiarity breeds contempt" didn't have an internet connection. |
I have played many F2P and hybrid model games. I have looked over the offerings in the cash shops in these games. We have all read the stories or seen for ourselves: EVE's $70 monocle debacle as well as other clothes that cost more than their real life counterparts. Allods: remember the 6 slots costing 20 bucks and perfumes that cost a standard sub fee for 20 half hr segments? I have played Rappelz, perfect World and others. These items start at around $10 and go up from there. There is no "Nickle and Dimeing" in these games. It's tens and twenties. The out of pocket cost for digital items aren't cheap. We all hear stories of the rich kids who pay thousands to be better than everyone else. The way I see it, there is nothing "Micro" about these transactions. If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

Well you can imagine how appealing a game will look if it's advertised as being supported by "Macro-Transactions".

Haha, ironically enough, I recall back in WotLK, hitting some informational sites looking up something I don't recall, but What I do recall is there was this "Professionl WoW Guide" being advertised that wanted to sell you a keybind setup for raiding and PVP complete with macros. I am pretty sure that qualifies as "Macro Transactions" LOL If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

micro-transactions came out of the digital cash movement which was part of many parties interested in e-commerce on the Internet. There were people interested in standards as well as business who wanted sell their goods. It gave birth to paypal as an example. The fact the mmorpgs have used the term doesn't mean mmorpgs are the origins of the term.

Microtransaction is a term created by Visa credit card. The term refers to any payment under $20 online. As far as I know microtransactions first show up with dialup Internet providers who were nickle and diming consumers by charging them incidental amounts every time they went over their maximum number of online hours.
