One of my major concerns with GW2 is the possibility that all lvl 80 items will have identical stats. I was an avid original Guild Wars player and one of my biggest complaints is the fact that I wasn't rewarded for spending hours and hours accumulating items to build high-end Fissure armor. Yes, the armor looked cool, but it had the exact same stats as (lvl 20) Droknars Forge armor. So here's the question. Will my dedication and time be worth the investment in end game dungeons offer better armor that has better stats than other level 80 armor or will it all be the same???!!!! I really hope I'm not going to spend all these hours in this game just to find out that its a socialist nation at level 80.... :(

I hope so. Probably same stats aside from how you customise the slots. The best thing they did in GW1 was there is no end game progression based on gear scores.

I would have to disagree with you simply because there is no reason to do end game content if there is no reward other than some different looking skins.

Not same stats but the same "item level" there won't be new gear released past 80 that has more stats then old gear ala wow.

No clue. Anything on how level 80 works outside of non-WvW PVP is purely speculative, as no one has been there yet.
However, even in PVP there were multiple builds of items through sigils and the like. By the looks of things, there will be even more variations than we've seen in PVP. MMO's played: Ragnarok Online (For years), WoW (for a few weeks only), Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Eve, Allods, Shattered Galaxy, 9 Dragons, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Star Trek Online (Got someone ELSE to pay for it), Champions Online (Someone else paid), Dofus, Dragonica, LOTRO, DDO and more... A LOT more. I've played good AND bad. The bad didn't last long. :P |

Originally posted by Depravity44 Sorry, but the "No Life/I have more time/money than you so I get better gear" games are that way --> ANet has a very clear and consistent philosophy that SKILL is more important than GRIND (or P2W) so Top Tier/Top Stat Gear is relatively easy to obtain. If you need gear with higher Stats to feel good about your time played/actually succeed in PvP there are plenty of other games that will provide that to you. Have a great day! :D |

It looks like this is going to be one of those games were you will either have to love cosmetic options or pvp to play for much longer than the lvling process.
I think it will be fun to play through lvling up and checking out all the dungeons, but I don't think it will be a game that you would find yourself playing for years on end as your main game. It will likely be many people's side game, possbily to log in a few times a week for a change of pace. |

If they keep with the Guild Wars 1 philosophy they won't have the same stats, but they will all have max equivalent stats if that makes sense.

This is what I don't understand about GW2. Where is the hook - what keeps you playing? If you can jump to the highest level to PVP, and content at level 80 doesn't really progress your character, just gives cosmetic bonuses, then how is it going to capitivate peoples' attention after the first couple of months? When people just play for fun, the novelty can wear off pretty fast.

The item level will all be the same. The difference between the items will be give and take, let one sword may have more power, but the other lessens the power to increase condition damage. Each level 80 item will have the same scale, just slightly different numbers such as +100 power or +100 condition damage or +100 vitality etc. The main purpose is to keep all level 80s at the same power and give players that don't grind for a better item a chance to fight some hardcore player that plays every dungeon 5 times a day. |

Just like in Guild Wars 1 really, the hook is Cosmetic looks Competivie PvP And now we have WvWvW to compete your server to the #1 rank. All multiplayer games are competitive in nature. Guild Wars 2 will just say its in PvP where as other games compete for better PvE progression gear. From a player standpoint the joy is in doing better with your own skill rather than doing better by getting stronger stats. It is a matter of preference which game you rather enjoy at end game. |
