That is not how facts work in the slightest. Involving runescape and GW2, that is also opinion and perpective. Not fact. There are a lot of people who like GW2's graphics more than Runescape's but that does not make it fact. It is still perspective. See, there you go again. To me, GW2 does have obviously better combat than Tera. So who's right? Neither of us and both of us at the same time. You are right in your opinion and I am right in mine. I played it with every intention to subscribe to hold me over till GW2. You know what I found? Nothing there that interests me. I had more fun with GW2's combat in leaps and bounds than I did with Tera's. There is nothing wrong with me for that. There is nothing wrong with you for appreciating Teras combat.

As of this post, 41% say both are good (some prefering TERA or GW2, but enjoying both).  That's the majority.  I would say both games are pretty well received at this point.

For me the fact that at Tera you gotta stay still to do skills puts me out of the game. Im a bit tired of that.

I played GW2 beta and was surprised how the combat system works, always moving, dodging, jumping and doing skills at same time, it turns it very fluid and was what i most liked. Its harder at beginning but it has a lot more action going arround, and makes it much better IMO.

Interesting point about some skills "stopping" your movement.  I have been hearing a lot of complaints in GW2 about ranged being overpowered vs. melee, and wonder if that's the single biggest reason.  If you can kite everything, why have melee for the most part?  That could also by why TERA chose to restrict the movement on many abilities (Some you can move and execute).

The most frustrating thing as a melee player is when range are able to kite me with no consequences. Ever fight a Frost Mage in WoW? Now imagine every ranged class feeling like a Frost Mage in GW2. That's what the PVP was like.

In TERA, the action lock makes it so casters have to choose their abilities wisely as well as melee. It's more about choosing your skills and when to use them, than running away and spamming 1 ala GW2.

I'm guessing you didn't equip any controlling skills? As a mesmer, I'd use my phantasms to help keep the foe at the range I chose my having cripples applied. Yes, this is ranged keeping range, but it also worked well at keeping people from running away from me as well. All melee have range closers that they should be taking advantage of. The problem melee had was not using the right skills at the right time. If they tried the faceroll thing, they failed. Simple as that.

Never tried Tera, no interest in doing so simply because I'm waiting on GW2, nothing against the game. I've just lost interest in MMOs that have me fighting against other players for mobs, loot, nodes instead of with them. Tired of relying on a dedicated this or that instead of being self-reliant as possible. That whole archaic style... I'm sure there will still be people that prefer it, but I've moved on.

Oderint, dum metuant.

You need it as a mesmer since clones and phantasms require a target, so there are times it's necessary. Again, however, most skills don't require it but you have that option.

Haven't played TERA yet, but the combat looks great. Only thing stopping me is the $15 a month.

That is completely based on opinion. Some prefer TERA's combat while others prefer GW2's combat. Each system has its own advantages/disadvantages.

Assuming that all the votes are from people who actually tried both TERA's combat and GW2's combat, it seems that there are clearly more people preferring GW2's combat.

I am sorry if that upsets you so much :/.

Looking forward to EQL and EQN.

As I said, when the game releases I'll revisit whether or not I'm wrong - Until then you're really not at the level of exposure required to make an accurate judgement of the game.

What is it with Tera fans like you?  You're the second one that's suggested because YOUR favorite game is not winning on a poll, that people are lying?  And you call me emotionally invested.  I suggest you don't look if it bothers you quite so much.

Haha, you're becoming a little pathetic here - Now it's my favorite game? Even if TERA was winning I would maintain that people who have voted on the poll have not played both games making their candicacy for the poll pointless.

My eyes are wide open, if TERA's end game was bad I would quit - You've already decided that GW2 is the greatest by playing for two days and that TERA is terrible.

I would gladly play GW2 if it is improved considerably before release - I'm not a fan of TERA, I look objectively at both systems and say that one appears to be better to me. Please don't try so hard..

Don't see what the big deal is, GW2 is charging 60 USD so you would have to play for three months for a 40USD P2P game at $15 dollars a month to be more expensive. If you decide that you don't like GW2 in the first month you've wasted more money than you would of trying out a P2P game, if you decide that you don't like a P2P game you can cancel your sub while you're still on your free month.

I can see how this is a problem if you like the game and want to play long-term though, or if you've been playing F2P games before this.

The funny thing about online polls in general, and particularly polls like the one in this thread, is that the only thing they tell you is how the people who have voted on the given poll have voted.  That's it.  The results are in no way statistically valid for anything, and any conclusions you might like to draw are completely meaningless for pretty much anything.

Just sayin' ;-)

Well I read your post and you didn't say that people who voted didn't play both. That's not what you maintained. You said that those who voted for TERA voted honestly, and those who voted GW2 voted dishonestly.

If you're gonna try to say that people didn't vote honestly in general, then the whole poll is pointless. People played Tera but not GW2, and GW2 but not Tera. It goes both ways. And I can agree with that idea, not the whole TERA voters are the honest ones. This entire poll is really bad IMO

ANYWAYS.....

On a sidenote, I did play both. Played tera up to about 33 and a few chars on GW2. I can say that TERA's combat is better simply because it can be more involved and active with the aiming and whatnot.

Sad thing is that for the time i played in tera all those mechanics were never required. It was a step up from levelling in WoW but not much.  I was on autopilot half awake killing things in tera, dodge the red eyes attack, attack attack, dodge the slow attack, repeat.

Meanwhile pretty much from the getgo in GW2 I had to be involved even with less complicated combat mechanics. You had to dodge attacks or you got wrecked even as a lowbie. I had to dance around and back off to wait for heal to be on CD quite often. I couldn't autopilot a damn thing.

Tera has this great active combat system in place, but doesn't use it for the first 33 levels (even on bosses like sinestral manor was kind of boring and didn't require full extent of Tera's combat mechanics). GW2 has a less active-but_still-pretty-active combat system and requires you to use it practically from level 1.

In response to your previous quote I agree. It is definately all subjective and I hope Tera provides you with many months of uninhibited joy :). I think of it as a sad occasion when someone doesn't like a game rather than a happy one. Unless of course they are addicted to video games and sacrifice other avenues of life for them.

In reply to this post though you do ALSO have to buy the box for Tera as well as the monthly fee's. GW2's pricing is the same as every other non-MMO game on the market and is the standard. Because of that I don't really consider it a waste even if it didn't hold my attention all month (which it will assuredly, having played it). Other games I buy are desperate to hold my attention that long. Skyrim  held my attention for a few weeks at most and I don't feel I wasted my money on it. The entire Uncharted series, I can beat all three games in two weeks tops. Still those are some of my favorite adventure games on the planet.

GW2 will likely hold my attention for years. In fact this will probably be the longest game I've ever played for $60.

All Mainstream outlets are selling tera for 50 usd. There was one random seller for 40 I saw.

But your math is wrong there. If Tera is 50 bucks, you would have to pay for one month for it to be more expensive. 50+15=65

If tera is 40 bucks, you would have to pay for 2 months, 40+30=70.

So at best if you buy tera and dont like it you wasted 40 bucks, gw2 you wasted 60. However if you later wanna go back and give the game another shot due to changes in opinion or changes in the game tera is gonna charge you 15 and gw2 is free.

I own both games and am currently playing Tera. I did play the beta weekend of Guild Wars 2.

First off Tera overall is nothing new or fresh. It is the same game as every other mmorpg out there. The only plus side is the awesome graphics of the game. I don't think Tera is a bad game but it is simply to much of the same thing and I think that is where Guild Wars 2 betters it. Guild Wars 2 is a fresh look at mmorpgs. Sure it has Dynamic Quests but that is the entire game which is unlike every other mmorpg out. The game itself feels alive where Tera does not.

However the big question here is combat. Tera claims to be a action mmorpg. It is not. When you can hold left click to auto attack I don't feel that as being an action game. If you want a action mmorpg I suggest playing C9, Raiderz, DCUO, Vindictus, Dragon Nest. Those are real action games.  Guild Wars 2 isn't a action mmorpg but has more actual action involved than Tera does in it's combat. In Tera you can literally sit in one spot and hold left mouse down and never do anything else especially if you have a healer. In Guild Wars 2 you can't do that. You have to move a lot especially if your melee and you find yourself dodging quiet a bit.

Let us not forget that each class in Guild Wars 2 has several different play styles making them much more flexible and just overall more fun. Where in Tera each class has 1 roll and thats it. Tera is your classic trinity game and doesn't do what it claims to do all that well. So I vote for Guild Wars 2. If your one of those people who all you care about is graphics then go with Tera. Otherwise Guild Wars 2 is the better pick.

also greenmangaming.com has been selling guild wars 2 for a discounted price.

Not sure how pricing and combat mix, but Tera's box price includes a month of gameplay. So two months of Tera will equal roughly the box price of GW2.

In any case, I bought single player games in the past for this price that lasted a weekend.

As for the poster above, sorry to burst your bubble, but GW2 is nothing new either. It's GW1 with the PvE of warhammer and the PvP of DAoC. Innovations are punished by players so developers opt for evolutions. And both Tera and GW2 are evolution of previous concepts, with their own twists.

You never did play tera did you?  I can tell by what you posted and anyone that has played would agree with me.

I can understand you being a fan of GW2 and all but geez dude.

Just got Tera, going to play it while waiting for GW2, and perhaps it will last longer than I think. It's really quite good after all, and there's not much else to play right now.

Played couple tera beta weekends, mage to 18 or so... Got bored with the same grind gameplay from the rest of the asian mmo's that they present; it's just another treadmill. Combat was really slow with animations that lock you in place, unintuitive spells and abilities.
