Yes I was. The ArenaNET art team definitely joined the top 5 of best art teams of the MMORPG genre, possibly even at the first place. In both scale and art this game is a gem. |

I've been around long enough that I'm never impressed by "graphics" so much as by aesthetic style. I'm more interested in the level of creativity that goes into the game and less interested in poly count, bloom effects, and HD textures. To this day I still thing Ragnarok Online had some of the most beautify environments and sprites That having been said, from what I've seen of GW2, it looks neither impressive or disappointing to me as far as the look of it goes. |

Impressed? No, I never had any expectations for Guild Wars 2 as far as graphics go nor have have ever for any game. I like it's artistic style but then again I like Star Wars: The Old Republics artist style. As far as graphics go when all that is concerned is "omg they are pushing the tech so hard my systems going to blow up" honestly it's passable and gets the job done which is just fine by me. What did leave an impression on me was the artist style and simplicity of the UI, that stuck out the most and overall I liked it very much.

Originally posted by reignjuste Jesus what's with the insane high resolution? Anyway, I'm not blown away by these screenshots, they do look nice but some objects are EXTREMELY low res. The buildings in the not so far distance for example. Perhaps there is a bug which loads in the low res textures at a to close distance? |

3D quality is really good, but its not the strength of the game graphics. They are a lot of small elements that make the overall graphics feel very nice, from the character costume colors, the ui, and many other things. The games is also packed with content, no empty area, the npc feel really alive with a very wide variety of activities they are doing and make sense for the area they are in. They are not all like doing the same 5 animations over and over again like in most rpg games. But if you talk about raw 3d graphics quality, and i worked a bit with high end 3d software in architecture, i can tell you they are good quality, and most certainly feel like last gen. They are maybe not as good as some solo rpg, or fps, but GW2 is an mmo, and there is no way an mmo can reach the top quality because it need to perform very well when a lot of people are playing in the same area. And the game really was filled with people, one of the most populated beta i was part of. The only thing i kind of disliked a bit were the particle effect, i think they are overall too obvious and flashy i think they just overdone that part too much, and it end up being a bit counter productive. |

Few screenshot i took this weekend. (Because actions speak louder than words) I really love that 'painterly' style. |

Thrown on the ground with sheer force of awensomness? No.
I like 'painty' style though. Something new. Kinda.
Not 'cartoony' (which I am bored to tears with) and not 'realistic' either.
Guess it is good to have something new. |

rofl no problem! I am getting on in age and I was confused. I'm still kicking around the horde and alliance in my head so once in a while I get rattled myself! :) Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

It has never been a goal of Arenanet to create an MMO with the absolute best graphics. The game has a very modest poly-budget and they're sticking with dx9 for the time being. That being said I do hope they will add high res textures like others have mentioned. Textures in cinematics are really awesome.

Originally posted by thoreau As far as detail and realism, AoC is the standard - but I preferred WoW graphics to AoC, simply because of the artistic style and color palette, the sense of whimsy and flair. IMO, GW2 offers a style that is about 3 parts AoC, 1 part WoW. It's almost a 3D Disney or Pixar take on AoC. Roll up a Charr and see if you don't start humming "Beauty and the Beast". I love the artistic style/direction of GW2. I don't know if that's the same as being "impressed by the graphics". There are many games that have more impressive graphics (BF3, or even DIRT3). but I wouldn't want to play an MMOG with that style of graphics. And the color palette and artistic style in EQ2 was, IMO, horrid. it's what drove me out of the game. I find GW2 graphics to be be a very satisfying blend of realism and fantasy art. |

Originally posted by thoreau Not sure if others have mentioned this (too many pages, too late in the evening), but: This build was optimized for CPU, not GPU. High-res textures were not available. Only DX9.
I still loved the graphics, the art, the environment, so bring on the finished game. |

Graphics - not that impressed, played AoC for a fair time and that to me is the MMORPG to judge graphics by Aesthetics - Awesome, loved the artstyle, from the olde skool fantasy world of the humans to the steampunk (ish) cities of the charr. The colour palette is amazing lots of autumn shades, leafy greens, rusty reds, vibrant but never OTT. There's a real depth to the way the world is portrayed, it's cohesive and they have done their best to make it feel alive. Loved it. |

I thought everything looked really good but then I don't want realistic in an mmo
