The lack of community. This is hands down the most quiet beta I've ever played. Everything is so incredibly steamlined, there's no downtime, even when waiting for pvp matches to pop. This leads to virtually no chatting. I've been trying to talk to my team members pretty much every single game I've been in, but I got no more than a total of two responses over two days of playing.

The lack of chat bubbles is a big issue for me as well. When you thank someone for rezzing you they generally don't see it, because they're not looking at the chat box. Perhaps chat bubbles is something they'll be adding soon?

Other that this I pretty much am super impressed with the state and polish of this game.

Wow that is odd, because on Sea of Sorrows the chat is pretty free flowing.  Wierd.

Yeah, my server has local chat constantly running down. Guild chat is busy as well.

And if you want to say ty, just target them and right click their name to send a whisper. My experience has been different than yours. Especially in WvW. People are constantly barking their opinion about what should be next.

SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever!

Hmm i was playing underworld EU, on the overflow server 95% of the time. I played a lot this weekend 16+ hours probably lol. The whole time i had almost a full group and random chats constantly.

We even had a zerg of 20+ people rolling together to kill bosses.

I guess its down to the people.

Good to hear that there are better servers out there. In WvW there's slightly more chatter, but still pretty desolate, I'd say. And we're not doing badly in WvW, we're actually steamrolling the other two servers. Might be that I ended up on a server that many big guild rolled on, so they stay clear of general chat channels and just communicate in guild chat. That would explain the radio silence *and* our steamrolling the other two servers.

I had the same problem. It's pretty quiet and the lack of /general is sad. However, this also mean we don't get constantly spammed with messages like WOW THIS GAME SUCKS :)

I think I prefer no general channel rather than a free for all one.

I will say the lack of zone/general chat at one point screwed us over. In the 15-25 human zone. The underwater boss area is mega hard. Wanted to call more people to it but no way to :(, but all in all i found that while its not quite as chatty as other mmo's the social/teamplay is still there.

Organising 10+ people is a bit of a challenge but i'm not sure if they have systems to do so with no "raid" content. But even without people naturally worked together once in level 10+ range.

I personally don't think there is anything to worry about :D

p.s. my experience is only based on underworld PVE, Human warrior level 20.

I think it's just because people know they only have a very limited time to play so they want to try all the stuff they like before their time is up.  This doesn't leave much time for chatting :).

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Whenever I needed an answer to something, somebody always gave it.

The less chatting I have to do, the better.  I loved not having to ask people to help res me (not that I died more than other people) or to help out in some event or skill challenge.  People just follow others, as there is no reason not to play with others except when there are too manyh players in one little area, where it can be a little annoying having your targets killed before you hit them.

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

I have to say I was one of the people who never once used chat. Mainly because in the 5 hrs or so I got to play I was busy trying to figure out how not to die and how to keep my pet alive ;)

I have to agree on the quiet. I was trying to learn how to start crafting by gathering. I looked for 40 minutes in that huge Divinity's reach for the tools needed to harvest and the entire time I was trying to get help in local chat. No one would answer my pleas for help.

Yeah, it's incredibly quiet. People have still managed to work together nicely in spite of the silence. But it would be nice if there was more talking beside the occasional "thx" after a rez.

I bet people will group and have more fun on overflow servers, with the sentiment that what happens in overflow servers stays on overflow servers.

I didn't notice a lack of communication, though players participating in Dynamic Events on Tarnished Coast seemed to know what to do without bickering in a zone wide channel.  At least, in my experiences.  It was wonderful to see people coordinate knockbacks with waves of incoming mobs, heals and snares, and revives on the fallen.  I had a blast, and thanked anyone who revived me via whispers.

Also, tonight I witnessed about eight players roleplaying outside of a tavern in Divinity's Reach.  It started with two humans and one charr having a casual chat, then another charr walks by and joins in, then three more charr come by, and the next thing you know, someone makes a furball comment, and the conversation escalates (all while in character).  Of course, when someone offers to get some drinks, the heated argument seemed to die down and they all walked (actually walk speed, not run speed) into the tavern to continue.  I had fun just witnessing the RP, and hope that the Gw2 community has a lot more players like that, to make the environment all the richer for the rest of us to experience.

I haven't seen even one person in chat say, "wow this game sucks," not one.  I have also not seen mention of any other games, which I find more amazing than not seeing anyone say the game sucks.  I have never been in a beta that didn't have CONSTANT mentions of at least WoW, if not EVE and other games.

I stil haven't figured out whether it was bc I was most of the time on an Overflow server or bc Local chat has a limited radius and isn't zone wide, but the chat on the server(s?) I was on was kinda quiet, even if I saw people running around. I only noticed the remarks of people in my direct surroundings.

Does anybody else know if there was a more universal, more widespread channel than Local?

I get the feeling that Local is what it says, local. More like a /say or /shout radius.

This came up in another thread, and I think it's in large part due to the chat system itself. I was at the door of Divinity's Reach, and I could not see the same chat conversations that were going on near the crafting area in town. Chat definitely doesnt appear to be zone wide, so unless there were other people near you, it felt pretty quiet.

I'd have to agree though, I'm not a big /general chat person, but I like seeing it flow by, I casually pay attention and so on, but here it made it feel very quiet, which, especially in Divinity's Reach was odd because the city felt so alive and vibrant...except for players talking that it stood out that much more.

Yep...wish the /general or /local was zone wide.
