Originally posted by Marchosias13 you aren't paying to test, you are pre-paying (or prepurchasing) for an end product but because you want it out sooner you are helping with the debugging so they don't have to pay other people to test. and so there is more thourough stress and mechanic testing.
it is no different than a developer offering prepurchases forum support and then because someone on the forums wants a major feature added the devs say "write a program to do that in language-X, post it on the forums and if it works, we will incorperate it"
you by no means have to participate in the ironing out of bugs and glitches. like myself you can wait until general release to buy it. but if you are passionate about the product and want to help find and report errors (which is more easy that debugging and mechanic crafting) that is what you are allowed to do before everything has the final code of polish... that is what the BETA is (both open and closed beta).
the issue with TERA's beta (when i was in it) wasn't that you were testing, but that the devs didn't acknolage the issues the game had. which also is likely why their beta had much lower demand/hype compared to GW2; smaller starting population, less retention. if they had a game of equal hype and their servers couldn't quite host the people who have prepurchased the game alone, then they might also have set up a similar styled closed beta. |

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising? |

Originally posted by Marchosias13 Why did you choose to pay to test - you could have chosen to wait and paid to play instead paid to test. Yet I guess somehow the GW2 devs are responsible for the choices you make. Funny - I don't let companies do that. They advertised, pay early and test beta, and you decided, that meant, pay early and play. And now you are mad because it was as advertised rather than as you assumed. If you can't tell, I hate the 'pay to test' argument. Like your hands were tied. Like they advertised it as early playtime rather than a beta test. Give me a break. You are the one to blame if you thought paying to enter a beta test wouldn't result in a test. |

Originally posted by synn I don't like the practice of companies dangling beta access on pre orders, I (and many of you) have dissed other games for doing this so shame on those of you who have clowned other companies while being dismissive when ANET does it. But honestly if the market exists and these people are willing to pay in fine what I would hope to avoid is having to hear them whine if this game ends up taking a year or more to launch. |
