I couldn't log in on the Friday, and the lack of Areanet communicaiton baffled me, but waited till the Saturday and played it for a good few hours straight as an engineer. The combat is different, no real targeting, took some getting used to, but didn't understand much about it as I could kinda spam 1 and he would shoot anything in range really. I liked the way you learn new skills but actually playing with that weapon, and I liked when i duel wielded another pistol I gained a few more skills to learn. The first boss event, I found quite interesting, but didn't know how to dodge something I had no idea where it was going to land. I explored a little bit, and found these owl statues, going up a mountian, I followed them and at the end was a laugh statue, I thought oh is this it, turned around and an event had started and that Owl is now real and in my face attacking me. Kinda funny, not had that happen in any other MMO I've personally played, and I liked it, it kept me on my toes. I enjoyed the events near the hearts, it felt fast paced, crazy and kinda like a war, there were loads of mobs streaming in to the area, there were lots of players trying to fend them back, looked awsome, but unfortunatly the sound was dreadful, all the sounds of all the players mashed into one, and sounded like a mess. I then upped the sound quality, but wasn't sure if that changed matters. The graphics were stunning on full, didn't have slow down even when there were loads of mobs and players dying here there and everywhere. Had no Lag issues either, so if thats the same connection that goes to the PVP parts, that should be fast paced, little crazy and a heap of fun, unfortunatly at the weekends I never get much time on the PC so didn't get to try it out. Just for people to know what sort of system I have : i5 2500k @ 4.2Ghz, 8GB 1600Mhz RAM, 460 GTX EVGA FTW, with a 50mb cable broadband line. With full graphics settings set in game.
Overall I enjoyed it, looking foward to the next beta, just wsh it wasn't at a weekend lol! |

I don't think polls like this really work, because you'll always have the super fanboi types giving a game a 10 and then you have the trolls/haters that will vote the lowest they can. Hard to get a gauge on it with these polls. Personally, I went in with no expectations, and came away pleasantly surprised at how good the game was. I can't say enough how fun the WvsWvsW is and it's my favorite part of the game so far. If you're a DAOC vet you'll love it. My husband was planning to wait til months after release before buying, but after playing a few characters on my acct he decided Sun to buy it and play for the remaining beta time he could.
What happens when you log off your characters????..... |

I played most of the weekend and liked it and certainly don't regret my pre-purchase. I spent all of my time in pve so I may have had a different experience than many. Dynamic events are fun but they are a direct rip-off of Rift. That is not a complaint - I love them! The DE point out to me the thing that bothers me the most about the game - it is not solo friendly. Yes you can solo - but to get the skill points from contested areas you had better have a group. I could not complete the level 10 necromancer story quest even at level 14. I am somewhat of a noob but I figured 4 levels higher I should have been able to beat the quest and couldn't - and yes, I did dodge. Crafting depends upons un-common drops thus you will quickly outlevel anything useful. Gold sellers should have a field day with this game because I was cash poor most of the time. My other complaints I expected from watching the pre-beta videos. The old EQ veterans will love the questing in the game - you have no idea who has a quest. The hard-core may love this but I think one of the best things that WOW did was put the question marks on quest npcs. Being a healer in most of my other mmos I missed the lack of a healer in GW2. I don't know how people can complain about the graphics. I thought that the game world looked awesome. The home city of the Charr was a jaw dropping sight. I played mostly in the Norn area and the vistas were beautiful. Many of my opinions were tinged by my recent disapointment with SWTOR. Even though I only got to the level 10 story quest I found the story much more interesting than most of the SWTOR story lines. The GW2 game world looked living and breathing and HUGE. I had tears in my eyes looking at the Charr home town. The SWTOR fleet just cannot compare and it is much better than Stormwind and Orgrimarr. On the whole this looks to be a great game. I am not sure if I would subscribe as I am mostly a solo player but it is definitely the game that I will be spending a lot of time with. |
