No kidding.  This game is the very definition of hype.  We have fans of the game starting threads about drooling over the log-in screen, for cryin' out loud.

I think most don't understand just how dramatic a change the GW2 dynamic event system is. It fully embodies the philosophy of "All other players are your friends" that Anet communicated so well in the manefesto. This will have a critical impact on the community. This isn't an occasional public quest like WAR and RIFT the entire questing system is replaced with this mechanic (discliamer: Yes I know personal quests are traditional MMO fare).

 

It's not a game of (me  Vs Environment) VS (you  VS Environment) anymore. The mechanics are no longer so heavily wieghted to support a game of competitve PvE in GW2. It now truely is a Us VS Environment game. This is a huge departure from the common MMO paradigm. GW2 is the first game I have seen the truely fully embraces, philosophically anyway, the concept of a Massively Cooperative game. I almost think we should change the acronym to MCMRPG (Massively Cooperative Multiplayer Role Playing Game... Online was redundant anyway).

I agree with the above with two additional thoughts:

1) The dynamic of "downed state" further enhances this idea of cooperative play. People will be getting knocked on their ass a lot this weekend, and other players can and hopefully will help you get back up and into the fight.

2) Yes, a massive part of the game is an "Us VS Environment" game, and there's a whole second game in the mysts. Two for one. But even WvWvW can lead to enhanced cooperation on your server because those folks are also you PvP team.

That's something I have a hard time understanding, but that's how it is. I've been in many betas before, and it's the first time beside Tera that the pre-launch open beta is limited to week ends.

Yes. This gives me a Sad as well.
I have been in other Betas where play was restricted to weekends.

There is a Closed Beta that is always available I believe, but you needed to be specially selected for that.

It still has quests (dynamic yes) with quest text.

 

The PvP I've seen before, so nothing new there.

Okay...while I am looking forward to the BWE saying it is MMO history a bit much. It's almost as if this is supposed to be the cure to the common cold. And, well, it's still beta. So I feel as I do every day. Looking forward to it but getting short of breath or something and overly excited to the point I am seeing some folks...You guys are worrying me lol. Heh, glad you are so happy though. Never a bad thing.
