So how much content do you think this game will have right on launch? aswell as the actually size of the world?
Comparable to other games etc... |

Originally posted by Stimos8 Well, good question. Here's an interactable map: The squares that are enlarged over the map illustrate the areas we've seen so far. For example, all the centaurs & bandits footage you see has been from the area just south of divinity's reach (the big circular city in the center). How this compares to other games is really difficult to quantify. It does take about 10minutes to run from one end of hte map to the other. Much longer if you want to explore (there are multiple lvls of exploration to each zone. There is a ground lvl, an underground / underwater lvl, and an above ground lvl. Going off of Queensdale (the area just south of divinity's reach). The area felt like multiple zones from WoW. Even getting half way across the area felt like a journey, let alone trying to make it all the way to the centaur camps in the next zone down. Now that you have that. Here's a fully map of all the areas of guild wars: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/6/6d/Tyria_map.jpg - Map of the areas currently portrayed in GW2 http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/f/fc/Tyria-world.jpg - Map of the world as we know it (including the areas from GW1 that are not currently in GW2). As you can see, we haven't even seen half of Tyria. And the full game world is less than half of the areas that could potentially open up to us in later expansions. There's a lot to explore. |

So in terms we can all kind of understand, is it the size of Vanilla WoW, TBC, WoTLK, Cataclysm combined or a combination of them? I use WoW because it is something most everyone has background with. Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

Wow. 10 minutes is not a very long distance at all. I'm hoping it's much larger than that, but if they can put meaningful content into whatever space there is then that goes a long ways. |

Originally posted by Amjoco Again... it's really hard to quantify at this time. You can refer to my last post to get a general idea. I will say this, the actual game world (going off the first game) is far larger than all of WoW combined (xpacs and everything). However, we will not have access to that full world in GW2. We don't have access to the full game at this time (2 starter races are not public, yet, and we don't know about the higher lvl content yet). So, we only have a general idea to go off of. If you look at the maps, you can see what areas we've seen footage of. Each zone (going off of feel, so it is somewhat subjective) feels about as large as 2-3 WoW zones combined (depending on the WoW zones). Divinity's Reach felt at least 4 times as big as Ironforge, or Stormwind. The norn city is massive, but feels a little bit smaller than Divinity's Reach. The most we can do is to say that each zone takes ~10-15mins to run across. That's about the best we can do at this time in terms of quantifiable data. |

Jeff Grubb said something about the game being about the same size as GW1 and if that is true it will be pretty massive. Since I am not a Wow player I can't really translate that to Wow terms but it will be a lot larger than games like AoC and WAR who got loads of complains for being too small. Since a lot of the game will be underwater and underground it might feel somewhat smaller first time you run around though. But I guess I can give you a better estimation on monday. |

Originally posted by Amjoco That's a hard one because I got so used to standing in Org that I forgot what the world looked like, but my guess is that we're talking about each zone being at least the size of Twilight Highlands. The difference is that there were a lot of "dead" zones between quest hubs in WoW, whereas in GW2 there generally isn't more than a minute of running before you hit a DE or a renown quest hub (the hearts) or a skill point challenge or something. I'd say each zone is at least 10 hours, probably more like 15 of content if you take your time and explore. Don't forget that all areas include not just the "ground" but also underwater areas, caves that go deep into the earth, and ruins that can be climbed to find hidden content and so on. It's an explorer's dream. "Loading screens" are not "instances". |

Originally posted by ariboersma The "10 minutes" and "15 minutes" figures come from a dev quote. It was quite a while back...they said that's how long it took them to run from one end of a zone to the other without fighting. Just running. In terms of content, it's pretty densely packed indeed. The zones are huge *and* there is lots to do within them. |

EDIT: For people who don't understant basic Computer science: Gw2 basically uses a jazzed up version of the GW1 Engine and the ENTIRE franchise, all 3 chapters and the Expansion for Gw1 is only sitting at 3-1/2 GB's on my HD. When I did Grandmaster Cartographer in it, it took me 2 months @ around 4hours a day just walking & fighting and walking & fighting to fully explore every single zone. The compressed Gw2 Beta client is already 4 times that size and only has about half of the total game included so far. ...price comparison wise: entire Gw1 franchise cost me ~$180 full retail back when I got it, and Gw2 is only $60 (inb4 some asshat calls it too good to be true) |

Each zone takes an average of 10 to 15 minutes to transverse from one edge to the other. (Some press testers have said that the zones are each close to the size of The Barrens from Vanilla WoW). There are 26 PvE World zones, 4 World vs. World Zones and 6 massive City Zones in the game world. There are also 8 5-man dungeons, each with at least 4 seperate wings. The game also supports underwater content, (each character has a magical rebreather mask, thus no breath meter), so there is more explorable content in a typical zone map than in most other MMOs. Also, there is subterranean content through out the game. Don't forget that there is also a large quantity of instanced content as part of your branching personal story. The world is huge. Easily one of the most expansive game worlds, at launch, of any AAA MMORPG since WoW. Want to know more about GW2 and why there is so much buzz?
