I'm not asking for a fight, just an opinion. Do think Diablo 2 is/was overrated? |

Nope. The game really had a very strong way of having you come back and back to it. I literally started up like 15 times over the course of the past 10 years and enjoyed everytime I came back. Granted it got old after a month or 2 each time after the initial playthrough (6 months of playing or so), it really was a great game for what it was. |

I always believed in comparison with Neverwinter nights, diablo II was an inferior product. (from memory they were around about the same time) |

Originally posted by Adoni I think it had to do with 2 things. Diablo 2 was a great game alot of customization, items and a decent story. The game itself was actually quite large dispite what it was, to explore everything it would take quite awhile. Another one of its very large draws was the player created economy and barter system. No other free game had this type of function, atleast where it mattered. Another thing that helped was battle.net. At the time it was the best free online service atleast for blizzard. After using mplayer.. bnet was absolutely great. |

It was addictive much in the way gambling is. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. |

Originally posted by Mellkor NWN came out 2 years later around same time as Dungeon Siege.. both of which were very fun games. However their multiplayer longevity was questionable as they lacked the persitance that D2 had. They were great games for the journey but after that it got old, atleast for me. Mods are fun and they had some great ones but they get old when there is nothing to really accomplish. |

To this day, if you ask me, I believe Diablo 2 is the best PC game ever made. It just had that "something" that made it a magical game. Was it perfect? Of course, not but it's probably still the funnest game I've played. |

The doctors say his chances are 50/50...but there's only a 10% chance of that. |

I'm not sure if it's overrated because I don't know how it is rated. Personally, I found it very fun for hundreds of hours, and then when it started getting stale, I discovered the Eastern Sun mod. El Psy Congroo |

Originally posted by Adoni Diablo 2 has to rank Top 10 in gaming success in general. Solid title all around and for those that didn't play the original Diablo it was a great improvement and refining of their system. I think Battle.net maybe paid as equal of a role as the overall quality of the game for success. It was one of the first few times people could just link up so easily to play together. The trading was a trip when the .hackerz got ahold of her and although they definately had their nitch the game experience wasn't hindered too much because you could also find legit servers without hackz. Diablo 2 was/is not overrated. Some developers need to take note on quality like that.. Even Blizzard shouldn't forget those roots.. PM before you report at least or you could just block. |

Originally posted by Mellkor To this point, I think it's a bad comparison. I would give you Dungeon Siege because Dungeon Siege was an action RPG with similar online gameplay and of course similar game mechanics but Neverwinter Nights was a far different game. And in all honesty, I felt Neverwinter Nights was a little bit over-rated. |

Not at all really. Diablo 2 was a fine game. It improved greatly on the original, and pleased the daylights out of its fans. I enjoyed my many hours with it. Still have D1 and D2 sitting over on the shelf after all these years. Sadly I wont be adding D3 to that shelf.
But D2 was good stuff. I got no complaints. |

It was utterly incredible when it came out. It had (and still has) some balance issues (some skills are just strait up useless, and some builds are rediculously overpowered), but that was/is probably it's biggest flaw.
It's aged reasonably well, gameplay wise. The low resolution and lack of widescreen support hurts it graphically, but the 2D sprites still look good. |

Originally posted by TGSOL Yea the lack of widescreen really kills this game right now. I tried booting it up about a week ago and it's just stretched to hell. I could play in window mode I guess but what's the fun in that? Doesn't change the scoring on the game though. I'd put Diablo 2 against SWTOR any day and I'd make bank..
