What kind of changes? It must have been big changes since it changed your mind (I'm asking cause I probably want to try TSW at one point)

I hadn't actually seen any TSW gameplay videos until just now. Not impressed is all I can say. I think Guild Wars 2 has a better chance of success, in my opinion.

IMO, dont ask others what to play....thats up for you decide.  Just about everyone (except maybe those in beta) will know the same about each game that you can find out for yourself.  What they want to play has nothing to do with what you will like and will want to play.....read, watch videos, dive in.....think for yourself.

They completely revamped their orginal PvP concept to meet todays standard in gaming. It was suppose to be a open persistant PvP zone that would fought for control and buffs for your faction. That has changed to what they have now.

Take my recommendation with a pound of salt because I'm a huge GW2 dork, but I would say . . . The Secret World.

No . . . just kidding. I would say GW2. Here's why. Funcom has had a notoriously difficult time creating games that don't have massive problems in some regard or another. The latest and most infamous example being Age of Conan. Age of Conan had an amazing level 1-20 set up and then completely peters out after level 20. The focus seemed to be on high res graphics and boobies to the exclusivity of consistent gameplay - and if theres's one thing AoC isn't, consistency would be at the top of the list.

The Secret World's premise looks pretty intriguing, I'm just totally worried about FunCom's ability to pull it off as a finished, immersive MMO that consistently works from beginning to end.

Guild Wars 1 is an amazing CORPG - the design from the ground up works and the game has involving horizontal progression after level 20. ArenaNet has been promising innovation (but, honestly . . . who hasn't) and has backed up the claim with extensive in-game footage. Testimonials from those in the industry (MMO journos and those who have access to the beta who aren't journos . . . ::long pause::) have testified to the game's quality. It's high. Very high. |

On these facts alone, I would recommend GW2. However, if you're tired of the ol' fantasy tropes, TSW may be something you want to give a go.

Hope this helps.

I ll Play both. Gw2 for pvp and tsw for pve. Cant wait to Play the Hell dungeon in Tsw. Looks awesome!!

I have played TSW. I have not played GW2 but there is enough footage to make this comparrison. You will probably find yourself disappointed in TSW as a PVE game.. its very lacking. The quests have little direction and most ofter update randomly without you knowing why. The writing in the game is very... hmm how to put it... bland? ends up being a lot like a B movie.. poor acting. Also do not expect TSW to be a finished product in June.. its FAR from ready in its current state.

GW2 is a far better PVE game for many many more reasons including story, ghraphics, gameplay ect

[Mod Edit]

I am sorry I offended you with the truth but you must have missed the several TSW posts I have mode.. can't really say much since there is a heavy NDA so TSW talks are quite limited. At least with GW2 there is enough content out there to have a discussion about.

To the OP:

It sounds like we have taken similar paths through the MMO releases, with pretty similar results. I am also interested in both GW2 and TSW.

I have chosen to play GW2 first. - This is based on, mostly, my experience with AOC/funcom. - I had a terrible experience the first week of launch with AOC, and the game was barely finished imo - if you levelled faster than the mainstream.

Based on that experience I decided that any funcom game in the future would have to wait 1-2 months past release before I would purchase it. If I wait with TSW I figure any bad experiences, or gamebreaking issues will be forwarded by the annoyed players, and then I can make a more informed  choice.

I have however enjoyed some GW2 playtime, and I am absolutely certain I will enjoy playing the game - maybe not forever- but enough to warrant the price of purchase. I dont think it is a game that you necessarily need to pvp to enjoy. In fact I think it has meaningfull pve in abundance, and a pvp system that might make non-pvp'ers try it out without the usual fear of being noobcakes :)

So my suggestion to you, especially since you mentioned money wasnt a determining factor. - Purchase GW2 and play that. If you are still interested in TSW two months past release, that makes it august, then check out their CSR forums, and general feedback from players, and purchase it if its mostly positive :)

I would give TSW about three months to stabilize after launch.  It's not that I think it's going to suck it's that I'm worried about stability for the first few months - Funcom has had horrible problems with launches in the past.  I enjoyed both AO and AOC much better a few months in than at launch.

I pre-purchased GW2 and am very excited.  Me and hubby are currently playing SWTOR until GW2 goes live and enjoying it for what it is (we are dinking along, purposely not aiming for 50).

I'm excited about both and will probably give Tera a try also. I'm choosing GW2 over the other 2 just because looks more fun.  My second choice if I were to have choose would be TSW. :)

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Depend what you like
Pvp gw2 hands down
Pve leveling and such, both offer something different to the "wow norm", hard to tell which will be best
Dungeons and what have you probably tsw, going off Aoc which has the best dungeons out there
Crafting tsw
Combat gw2, although they both have simmilar mmo+ movement and state orientated combat, gw2 just seems to flow better

Both games look decent and to be offering something new (or reinventing systems from the pre wow clone era)

For me its gw2 though as pvp is my priority, I will probably play tsw for a few months though to do the story and play with the build and crafting systems, but I don't think it will hold me long term since they dropped the agartha pvp system, which was a simmilar reinvention of rvr. Hmm maybe they put it in....one day.

I think the stability of TSW will be fine, what will not be fine is that the game can not be finished in time when you take into account its current state. It will be unfinished like AoC and the overall concept though wonderful was executed very poorly. The quest system is probably the worst I have seen comparing it to its competitors and peers.. maybe something like Linage 2 merged with a newer MMO.

Well sence you quite the one game and don't like reading much we'll just have to wait till realese to se how much quest reading there is.

It would be pointless to play either game if there's too much reading and you just quite.

A few weeks more patience to make a much more informed decision, OP. Both are behind an NDA still.

If you don't know, buy both. :)

I already have pre ordered "The secret world", because it has an interessting setting, which differs from other games.

I dont think theres any question, GW2 is a must buy, anything else just rests in its wake.  If you cant own both then get GW2 for god sakes!

Please don't do this. What part of free to play goes with spending $60 to play? Both games disgustingly have a cash shop, despite the secret world having a subscription fee and GW2 having a box purchase.

As for record, I don't trust Funcom which is making The secret world. Age of Conan was incomplete, bug ridden, yet they sold the game and hyped it using only the complete area, Tortage. Everything past that was increasingly deficient in voice acting, quests and general stuff to do. Combat doesn't look so good and I'm not a fan of the art style.

GW2 has a better background and looks more fun. Arenanet is getting increasingly greedy though by adding this cash shop bull shit, as GW1 didn't have one until they added it after it died, saying it was to support the servers with no income. Gameplay looks better, although you're going to have to deal with Areanet hyping the game and going silent every 3 months and the when it's ready crap.

In short, GW2 is the better.

GW2 is one tier above TSW, maybe i would try TSW if it was buy to play as well.
