Generally speaking I prefer time investment over RL money investment to obtain in-game items, but since there's no subscription fee I can see myself buying some stuff in the store (using gems purchased with RL money) so I still feel I contribute to further development / support of the game. That's actually what I've allready been doing for some time, I got a lifetime subscription for LOTRO (was a bargain that payed itself back vs monthly subscription fee quite some time ago so they're not getting any steady periodical payments from me, yet I have full access) so since it went hybrid f2p/sub, I occasionally buy some shop currency with RL money. Besides that it allows me to play multiple mmorpg's :) because I can spend elsewhere that subscription fee I'm not paying (currently alternating between SW:TOR and Rift and returning to LOTRO with each new major patch). I'm hoping they'll also sell some RL physical items for gems / RL money like artwork and maybe a Sylvari statue (if they put that in the CE I would definitely prepurchase CE but am now going for Deluxe because I'm not a big fan of those warmongering vicious looking Charrs :P) If I'll buy gems with in-game gold will depend on if I have a lot of gold that I don't have any direct use for and on what's on offer in the shop. Selling gems for gold is a no-no for me, I just can't get rid of that negative feeling about buying in-game currency with RL money, it feels like cheating to me and reminds me of the dodgy chinese goldfarmers practises even though it might be honoust players trading the gold for gems.

I'm in no rush to level anything up. If I need to buy something at some point I will, but I don't plan on it at the moment. Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure. |
