Hey all

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a confusion I am having with EverQuest. I bought the game some time ago (more than a *year* ago... yeah I know) and just got a computer that can play it. So I downloaded everything off the cd's and everything and got online to "test EverQuest." So I pushed that button and it has been downloading pathces from the server ever since yesterday at about 3:00pm. At first the estimated time for it being finished was 50 hours, and now it is down to 16, luckily. Does anyone know why it would be taking this long? Has anyone ever experienced this; what are the average loading times for others at the beginning? I am am confused!! Please help! Thanks a bunch.

1. TestEverQuest.exe access the test patcher that goes to the log-in screen and then the test or beta servers.
2. EverQuest.exe access the normalpatcher that goes to the log-in screen.
3. The EQ folder is about 3 GB after patches... so considering the CDs only install about 2 GB there is alot of patching necessary to bring your client up to date. In the patcher / Advanced you have check boxes for the various expansions you can enable to let the patcher install updayes to those expansions. If you have all expansions checked it will take quite awhile to update them using 56k dial-up. And some of the new expansions (don) itself will be like 18 hr d/l. So make sure you only have checked those expansions you will have access to.(eg. you do not need to update Kunark if you have not purchased that iksar expansion, nor don nor ldon if you did not enable [purchase CD keys] those expansions.)
4. Also EQ needs DX9c (op system version,) and a correctly installed gpu drivers... non wxp install
4. Notice some of the CD installs install in a seperate Sony folder instead of normally all in the same default folder (eg. program files/ everquest.) If all of the EQ files are not in the same folder that will cause crash problems in game when it tries to find a needed EQ file that is not where the client expects the file to be.
5. EQ has been in retail since 16 Mar 1999, so, it is no small amount of updates one must go through to bring the client up to date.
