He was talking about how certain events only happen at certain times of the day. You don't get exactly the same things happening at both day and night like you do in prior MMOs.

He was just conveying his point poorly.

For those curious, TotalBiscuit mentions it in his Thief gameplay video (one of the most recent).

To save you having to hunt it down and watch the entire thing, he mentions the ruins of an abbey where he went when the sun was up and nothing was there, but after the sun went down it would likely be invaded by ghosts. This has been convered in interviews and videos before. It's pretty neat.

That's where the day/night cycle changes from other MMOs, stuff happens differently based upon the time of day (or night, as it is).

This is revolutionary because a lot of games are starting to get rid of the day/night, because it is much too hard to code. However, Arenanet sees the power of the day/night and even has certain events happen depending on the time of day.

Arenanet has proven that even the hardest thing to code in a game (MMO or singleplayer) is day/night and they've done it.

Please go install Lord of the Rings Online and  create a hobbit. There's a quest in the Shire that wants you to investigate a certain incident that only occurs at night. Trolls wander the roads at night in certain areas. During the day, you will not see them.

Mortal Online requires the use of torches during nighttime.

Arenanet did nothing new there!

But even that's not revolutionary.  As many have said in EQ certain events only took place at night.  Entire zones would change from being low level to high level.  Different monsters would appear.  Time specific events (such as Halloween events) would occur only at night.  Night required some form of light source unless your race had a form of night vision or you would be wandering off cliffs and into packs of monsters you couldn't see frequently.

Besides there are other things about GW2 that are (more) revolutionary.
