"1 word, unique, making it less unique makes it better? no sorry i dont think so. with modernization funcom means wowization and im pretty sure those peeps wont take the bite when theres new "modernizised" games coming from doors and windows and some of them are also even "free" no chance AO sorry, and with actions like this ,old players who are going to test it someday will be like you hear people saying about SWTOR "too WoWish"" Cant quote the whole thing, gets too long... Anyway, I think your angle of labeling it WoWification is a bit off. I can agree on the level that WoW did cut a lot of corners to make the game more available to the players. And the question that must be asked is...is this a significant and important part of the gameplay? In my opinion, no, its not. If you want to speak about simplification and availability the biggest changes they have made so far was the introduction of the Shadowlands missions because of the sheer amount of SK they awarded in the higher levels. No more grinding 3000 Mortiigs to make 1 level. For me, not having to fly to get an item I want to buy is a good thing. It wont make me feel like Im playing WoW, thats for sure :-) |

Now you have me a bit confused here... People made characters to go grab items for others? I think you got it a bit backwards. People made fixers with fixergrid so they could farm items for other players. That means they rolled missions to find the right item, then ran to complete that mission for the questreward which they in turn sold to the other player. In all my years I have never heard of anyone making a fixer (or any other character) to run around to other players shops for other people. Sure, if you have a fixer it made things easier for yourself to go get the items you wanted to buy from other players. But I dont know a single person who made a fixer for that specific purpose only. |

I'll go back and see how it looks. I loved this game, one of my favorites. But There are soooo many more things wrong with this game than just GFX If those aren't adressed, any influx of gamers will be as short lived as what we've seen with SWTOR and AoC. |

New engine looks good, but we have been seeing new engine videos every six months or so for AGES now. I loved the concept of this game but discovered it too late, and just couldnt deal with how outdated everything felt (this was in 2009) Hopefully upgrading the engine will also improve character models / animations / UI cos it all just seems a bit clumsy compared to current games. It had an almost "airbrushed" feel to it. Believe me, it's still far better than what it is now, but I just hope people aren't expecting too much. |

That will come in time - a better UI I mean. Besides some random eye candy, there's 2 very important things that the engine brings: - better performance on new systems since the upgrade will actually be like teaching AO how to draw things in an effecient manner all over again (including support for some ATI/nVidia cards people had had problems with) - the possibility of improving the game's graphic assets. Because it is a very small team, they are handling and changing only the must-haves in order to ensure engine compatibility and not let it look like crap. Again, in time, they will be able to improve existing assets which will provide more eyecandy to the player The engine is highly important since it opens various avenues to improving the game later on. Not right off the bat since the AO team has to deal with engine optimization, rebalancing act and newbie start-up experience, but in time. Most likely, they will be able to expand the team once the previous 3 points manage to get an influx of player in the game so both team expansion and expenses will be justified to upper management. |

We just had to wait over a year for that video to surface, countless broken promises and deadlines given to the community. Developers who gladly announce new features in progress never to be heard of again. If at least half the team had finished university and had a degree in software development, then maybe just maybe we would have seen propper development managment. Anyone who think this engine will save AO, are prone to wishfull thinking and blindness. What will veterans see when they return? Ok there is a new shiny shiny, let's go raid the new stuff now!! Oh wait there is no new endgame content, ever since Shadowlands was released in 2003 we have yet to see a real endgame raid zone. FunCom trying to pass off Legacy of Xan as endgame content is pathetic. One room instances with bosses frequently farmed by 3 people and loot rights sold. The zone is empty. The new Dustbrigade 3 instance then? Yeah one room instances over a few floors, and since FunCom is unable to create content that is "hard" they went for a random death approach, this due to server/client sync. People randomly dying does not make a instance hard, it makes a poorly thought out attempt at making one. Yes this instance is also all but empty. Daily missions? Why should people team up and actually interact, when you can do mindless missions that give great exp? The hardest part of any daily mission, is the time it takes running from one to the next. Another effect this had is on the Legacy of Xan zone, people used to farm AXP there, they don't need to anymore. Leaving Arid Rift all but empty. Now the quest line that lies there takes even longer time, no farm teams to speed up running from A to B, back to A then C. Running around is the hallmark of content made for AO. Great charcter progression? Freedom of choice? Hardly! FunCom has been streamlining endgame content with cookie cutter content, there has been no freedom of character development since pre-Shadowlands. Extremely poor bandaid fixed has made PvP vastly imbalanced. Giving already OP professions access to even more powerfull perks and weapons. Instead of removing some of the items like say Troa'lar pistol and nerf X number of classes who already are powerfull. We have to wait for the much talked about rebalance and AS fix. And this is the problem FunCom, you talk and talk and then you release something none asked for. For all you new people who wants to try Anarchy Online, level 1-220 goes like this: 1-160 sit in a pocket team get levels. 160-220 run around in Inferno missions, do daily in a medsuit and proclaim on the LFT screen that you are great DD. Then there is the issue of exploits. And the developers stance in handling the issue. People get banned for a week or two, then they return and sploit again. There are 3rd party software to exploit PvP and leveling. FunCom do not deal with these people, they are let of the hook and continue find more exploits or update their software. I have never seen worse handling of exploiters in a MMO. But this is all ok, because we get new Miir social items and clothes on regular basis. That way we can RP playing a MMO while plaing a Singleplayer RPG. Ad astra per astrada |
