Originally posted by smh_alot Wow... this is so true I want to hug you. I have always been the type to say, "well, I don't like it, but some people may". And I just move on. I've seen lately around here the "Well, I don't like it, so clearly no one else does either". I've seen people seach the web for negative articles about a game, just to come here and post it.
The games have clearly grown in many ways that others have aleady listed. Hell, I remember that when Eq2 first launched, there were no mailboxes! They added them in an update. Eq2 isn't really the best MMO to use here as it has grown with the times pretty well. If you're talking about the initial Eq2 at launch, things have changed A LOT. If you're talking about eq2 now? It pretty much incorporates a lot of the changes... for example, non of this stuff was around in the original Eq2, such as:
Acheivement systems Appeareance tab/settings Collection systems - may have been there, can't remember..lol Flight battlegrounds Mailboxes etc.

Heh , what devs fail to understand is that the strong majority of MMO players cannot afford a 4000$ alienware PC , yet those Devs still create MMO's that needs a PC runned on jet fuel. Having a great looking MMO is one thing , lagging to hell once your in PvP with 30 other people is garbage. I fail to understand since when MMO's are suppose to be like standalone console games with high end graphics? Unless your CCP and actually putting tens of thousands of dollars on server upgrades every 2-3 years , but I don't see any other Devs actually working to help against lag. Yet they can do something about it with future releases ; LESS graphics |

Start worrying about other players in a game and dont just play |

I think EvE online and CCP has done the most progression on this genre.. 1.. they did away with levels 2.. One server that can suport fleet battles of 500+ players 3.. No fraction 4.. Council of steller managment.. EvE is the only game I know were we vote.. like you do In IRL and were those elected gets to go to CCP HQ and represent our the players Interests in the game 5.. CCP has hired an econmist to watch over the Ingame Markets and make yearly Reports.. no other game has done this.. 6.. CCP have made many technical advancements through the years.. with their technolagy.. No instances etc one open world.. And the game looks really good without having to be cut up in little pieces.. 7.. They have perfected things like building your own structures in space (POS) and holding areas (sovereignty) 8.. They were also among the first to try and combat CHINA Farmers by starting to sell their own currency to players.. I have a Hughe Resepct for what CCP has tried to do over the years and its a pitty not more of you are suporting them... We the players control that game.. that was proven this summer when we forced them to change direction.. Its a game for grownups though not litte kidds.. |

Originally posted by Zlayer77 I've commented on this before, but I really don't like the game. I've tried. Lord knows I have. I have played that game no less then 14 different times attempting to get hooked. I want to like it. Hell, I want to love it, but I don't. And I'm no kiddie, I'm 31 and have been playing games for a looooong time.
The last time I tried, it was just so damn boring. I played for abour 10 days, granted, only a few hours every other day... and saw about one other player. And getting anywhere took 15-20 mins jumping form gate to gate. I just don't have that kind of time to travel.
However, I'm not a big game basher. Although it's not for me, I can respect what they have done as a company.. The game really does look amazing... that's why I keep trying it...lol. It just has never hooked me for some reason. |

Originally posted by Praetalus It's cool EVE isn't for you. The post was just explaining advances CCP made. The biggest advances IMO since EQ2 are phasing. I'd say EVE's single server and clustering nodes, but EVE was released in 2003. |

I dont see much progress. Like smarter A.I, Dynamic weather system(dont mean scripted)dynamic mobs roam world also changing should be posible, live there own lifes don't spawn at same spot dont stand still wait to be slaughtered. Real deformation of world earthquakes floods lava eruptions that realy scorched the ground tornados storms and many other weather effects thta also have influence on you and your surroundings. When it rains fire dont realy works when you shoot a arrow and wind is strong you can't aim well or or suddenly real mist come up and blur your view. When it rains ground get muddy or rivers get over flooded with water. Npcs live there own lifes also change world or influence it. Npcs compete agains players. Snow slowly growing on ground or rain couses little water pools slowly on ground your clothes get wet. Realistic clothing when its cold you wear or npcs wear thick clothing and when its hot your wear little. More realistic enviroment with insects little animals and sounds. And so many more could have advance the genre in last 7 years. This will for long time not happen its like stalemate untill maybe consoles will be into next gen where stuck with the ancient DX9 and XP ERA. But what happen is consoles dominate market and pc games stay at DX9 and no progress at all only dumb down dumb down with crap load of awefull games/mmo's. Skyrim is for a DX9 game nice but it could be so much more with full potentie of DX11 hardware. Waiting for Guildwars 2 - played:AC-Darktide,AC2-Darktide,L2 and Darkfall.Solo Fav games:Morrowind, Skyrim, Bioshock, Age of Empires 2, Soldiers of fortune 2 and many more... |

I don't think your average player or forum-dweller is proficient enough to answer this question. Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. -Author unknown, attributed to Mark Twain |

mentoring / sidekicks - allowing players to group together regardless of real levels this existed before EQ2 with City of Heroes I consider this technical because of the gear scaling required to make this possible
appearance slots - being able to look like you want to regardless of your real adventure gear - only cosmetic but been adopted by many games since EQ2 first introduced it 4 years ago this isnt that technical -- but still a great fluff enhancement |

First thing that came to my mind was
Battlegrounds.
Second thing was
The Public Quest system WAR introduced (now used in Eq2, and forms the base of Rift) |

Interesting topic. Most MMO innovations come from EVE Online - this game was always ahead of its time. When DUST 514 comes out it will be the most innovative experiment of all - crossing two platforms, two genres, two different audiences. Cant wait to see how it works out

How can anyone not like mentoring/sidekicking? Seriously?
As for other advancements. Player locked enemies of ff14. If youre on a quest you get enemies spawning that only you can kill. Umm... What elsee... Power customization from cox n co. You can color them and even make macroes to change color so spamming the force explosion makes it seem like a rainbow. Umm...apbs openworld matchmaking system. Dcuos walking up walls, GE multi character control system. And lastly. Kabod online bewb physics. Idk if aoc has physics there too... ''/\/\'' Posted using Iphone bunni |
