Well I guess this is what betas are for. Testing for things like this.

No.... This is not what betas are for. A good company would use the beta to try and get in more players. ANet made a statement about, I think they said that people treat beta as a demo, yes, people don't treat beta as a beta.

 

 

Beta have always been about testing but people treat them as a free demo. Closed Betas are mostly testing and open beta is when they show the game off to get players. This is why games have Beta Phases.  Nobody is going to release a mmo with out some kind of testing to see how their servers handle the players. Arena Net is only stating what people aready know.

 

This isnt a beta though, its a 'sneak peek'  given out to a limited number of people and for a fairly limited timeframe. If it was an open invite 'stress test' then people would probably be more understanding about log in issues.

Does not matter is this is beta or not. This is not the release of the game where people have paid money to play it. Stuff like this happens and anybody thats been playing mmos for some time knows stuff like this happens. Its silly to be upset because you cant login to play the game for free at the exact time they said the servers will be up for a test.

At least i'm getting a new error now:

I blame the new splash screen... I got to the server selecet screen just fine last night... maybe if I spam click it...

So, that's the reason why so few people can get in. Because they decided on very short term to give people that pre-ordered access too.

This isn't really making a good impression. Everyone with a sane mind could have told them that the servers would be overcrowded if they also let those people in.

Hopefully tomorrow they will have solved the problem, otherwise it will lead to a lot of bad press.

Yeah they should have let the original sneak peak keys in, then NA ones then announce that all pre-orders can log in.

3 steps for a smooth launch.

The way they handled this smells like an amateur hour and it WILL hurt them, MMO-ers aren't the most patient bunch.
