When 1 person dies its a tragedy, when a million its a High score |
I was sitting in my room pondering what sort of mmo game would I be playing. It him me
Why is there no MMOFPS OR RPG (with multiplayer features) that used ID tech engine 1. yes I mean Doom, Hexen, Strife, Heretic (imagine they fused together and the fusion is this game with added diablo) Just imagine that style of game but with great quaility art (HD) more features, a unique world, dont change the engine just make it have higher quality artwork and more guns and powers some RPG elements and lots of multiplayer. Updates are simply more monsters, more guns since most of the work is artwork it would be easy to see weekly updates....keep everyone happy and since it uses an old engine (considered obsolete) it could be run on EVERY computer even handheld devices and cheap to run.
This idea is basically and idea to utilize a game engine, we all loved those games some still do and I dont see why they cant be re-used to make more games. |

The whole idea is using the old style engine but for modern gaming like Dungeon Fighters using 2d beat em up, this would be a doom/heretic/hexen style MMOFPS OR RPG, which ever would be made.
There already is a doom rpg, just imagine that with better graphic, more items, a different theme and world and multiplayer ..... heck it could even be open ended sandbox style world like most mmorpg games, since the engine is so old I doubt it would be using even a fraction of a computers resources.... Doom, Hexen, Strife, Heretic all use the same engine....I was just showing of what the engine could do...

Then, honestly, I would rather have Daggerfall converted into an MMO. Seriously... there's enough room for everyone, housing too, it would be amazing. Well anyway, I like the general idea because I grew up in that time, and will still play things like that. Problem is, anyone younger than me is further from any possibility of enjoying it. People tend to go out of their way to hate on something that has zero hint of nostalgia. Beyond that, the only issue is the philosophy of how to handle maps and player contingency. Is it a similar linked realm of corridors, or more free roam? Would the style even handle open environments? Can you even explore for that matter? How do you deal with death/respawns in any of those methodologies? How does camping work in this one? It's hard to ponder because I would already have to say the games are best off using corridors like they used to... if you had open areas it pretty much becomes serious sam, or way too heavy-handed in general. The whole pray/spray + flee instead of turning a corner and relying on reaction. Not to say there wouldn't be room for both, but it could very well suck trying to journey to the good parts. As for the 'journey' itself, I for one have been bitching and moaning about the MMO-action game genre having a distinct lack of Metroidvania thinking. How many good games are instanced runs repeated on different difficulties, when they could be a free roam world of linked instances and hubs? It doesn't change much beyond a bit of player perceptions, but really, that's the point here. Also, on the art style; if Vanillaware can produce living paintings, I can only imagine what can be done with sprites and 2.5d... but depending on how good it is in that department, as well as how many things are on screen, then you would need a decent comp to play it. Plenty of 2d games still chug heavy rigs, no idea why though. Writer / Musician / Game Designer Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4 |
