Just wondering if it is possible to update to Unchained from the Retail CDs. I was playing it, but stupidly forgot to back it up before reinstalling my windows to x64 (Upgraded RAM and GFX card). The internet here is extremely crappy and if I cannot use the discs from Retail and just update it to save download time... I'm definitely not going to bother playing it again. Not that I didn't enjoy it, but downloading 18GB at 300kb/s (if I'm lucky and it doesn't decide to bottom out at 100kb/s or even lower) is not worth the time... again. Does anyone know if this is possible? |

I don't think there is any way around the massive download. The discs are so out of date that most all the content on them needs to be updated anyway. I recently had to re download because of a reformat and I used the download from the AoC web site. I have the discs but opted to download everything fresh. I started in the evening before bedtime and let it run all night. I think that is the most painless way to do it :) Another thing I noticed after a fresh install was the game ran poorly. There were stutters during gameplay, long loads between zones, rubber banding. In general the wasn't running very well. But after 3 or 4 days things really improved. No more stuttering, loading zones took seconds rather than minutes and the game seemed to settle down and play like its suppose to. "The Pen Is Mightier Than The Demo" |
