Well before you say, why you post this in SWTOR? I miss it IN SWTOR. Or more precisely I miss the invasions. There was always something going on, in global people would yell "hey XYZ is under attack, come quick!" and mases would come and help and cooperate! Or you'd find a village or outpost overrun and help liberate it.

I loved that. And I miss that in the "every the same" staying SWTOR maps. I mean, MMOs always were so before Rift. But since Rift, I have a hard time to go back to these "unchanging" games.

Just a short note. ^^

Yea I thought SWTOR was going to be my game of choice, with WoW in the background.  It's going to be Rift. The game is just better, and Trion are amazing developers.

Of course that does not happen in Rift much anymore. People just ignore the invasions. Also, lost some of the appeal when you realize the Rifts happen in the exact same spots on the map. No real map changing.

I cannot fiddle but I can make a great state of a small city.

All TOR did for me was make me miss Rift.

I absolutely cannot stand being stuck in 1 build/role.

I would never play SWTOR for many, many reasons.  but after reading posts similar to this on the SWTOR forums, I actually went back to RIFT and subbed for a month.  cant say how long (if at all) I will play past that, but its strange how reading the boards of a game I would never play made me resub to RIFT.

Sure a lot of people ignore the typical rifts. However the zone wide invasions cannot be ignored and there are always a large bunch of level 50s doing the zone wide invasions in Ember Isle (to a lesser extent Shimmer, Stillmoor & Iron Pines), because a good chunk of your stats comes from the rewards you get from doing them.

Maybe SW:TOR could have benefitted from random events, where Empire & Rebublic dropships drop a whole bunch of NPCs and each faction has to help their side kill the other fastest. However the Empire would win 90% of the time. ^_^

Played Rift for 6 months and loved it, but ultimately quit and plan on never going back.  Here's my reason, even if you think it's a "stupid" one.

MACROS.

I was able to have 5 macros on my warrior for DPS and 5 macros for tanking... my entire action bar had 5 buttons that prioritized the hardest hitting abilities, with aoe macro, etc etc.  All I did during raids and instances was spam 3-4 buttons, while making sure not to stand in the fire.

It's an awesome game to be sure, but for that reason alone, I quit.  The combat wasn't fun for me.

With that said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE SWTOR.  Love the story, love the combat animations, love companions, love the uniqueness of the gathering... the story with companions... the branching quests.... the dialogue, huttball, the crafting....etc etc.

I plan on taking at least 4 characters to 50...

true and false. the rifts spawn in the same areas but go through a long list of other locations and at random.  the element type of the rift also is random. so a rift may spawn in the same area but could be a different element. you sir did play much or play passed the first couple of hub zones. however the chance of the same location and the same type numerous times in a row is possible. rare but possible. Also after leveling passed the starting quest hub and go along the first zone's quest lines i've noticed the rift are more random in location and type as opposed to the real newbie-newbie area which could be a tutorial reason as a quest asks you to close a rift. naturally if it is purpose like that and as i believe, then it would make more sense fun-wise and design wise to have a ready rift in a relatively close area and within the yellow quest area circle.

secondly, people don't ignore the invasions at all. there are still people who will run from spot to spot and eliminate the invasion. Otherwise it's really annoying to quest and dodge the invasion pats. on top of them in some cases you have to close the rift to stop a spawn of mobs that attack local areas. in silverwood I had to close a fire rift because ever couple of minutes a wave of mobs would spawn from the rift and run to the quest hub i needed. I was the only one there until the invasion then three or four people came in one by one and defended the hub.

just because it's not the same mass rush of people doesn't mean people don't do it.

i agree however that the map never changes, but that was a feature was it? dynamic events was the feature and it's WAI.

Yeah, Rift certainly does have a fairly robust macro system. Some may hate how essential it is to their gameplay and how it reduces combat to mindless spamming of a few hot-keys. Me personally, I enjoyed being able to reduce the clutter of my hot-bar with the macros. Though I must admit, I did go a bit macro crazy. ^_^

WoWs macro system is far better because really good macros make the game efficient but at no time do they dumb down the combat.

Rift just made the combat a snooze fest that it made me quit.

I wouldn't mind WoW style macros in SWTOR.

^ this to me this is the single most dissapointing this about swtor... hopefully A talent rebuild is planned for the future.. i know dual classes had been talked about but really need to rebuild the talent system and make it actually have several abilities per tree so you can customize your class more...  with this I think swtor would have much more lasting appeal.

Funny, what bothered me most about Rift was that my choices did not matter in the slightest.  There was no pros and cons to anything since you could have so many different builds anyways.  Bored the crap out of me.

what does having no pros or cons mean? having more roles meant you could do anything you wanted.. i played every class and it was great.. i played healer for about 30 levels with my cleric got bored healing switched to my dps role.. got bored of dps switched to my tank role.. ran a dungeon and we lost our tank no problem someone else swapped to there tank role and we que'd up for dps and got one in 2 seconds...  also you had a support role which added a nice break from the standard 3.. rifts soul system was simply amazing I could spend litteraly days in the soul builder coming up with new fun roles for pvp.. you can even go to the main site forums on rift and go to the rogue forums and do a title search for "vixtrola" you will see all kinds of guides I wrote on builds I came up with for PVP that almost no one even thought to use but i was able to make effective..... too bad the rest of the game got stale so fast...

every single class so far in this game I feel I made the wrong choice with my advanced class in rift you never had that issue.. To me having more choices=more fun and longer time I will play the game. I don't see how anyone enjoys being locked into a single role most of the time

Grrr, moderator WHY did you move this to Rift? Did you even READ? Doh

@topic: Yeah maybe the invasions of Rift were too many in the long run. But SOME would be cool, and the SWTOR planets so yell for such things. It really was a nice thing in Rift to form a community feeling.

Mods are all about SWTOR atm. Anything that could possibly be considered to be saying SWTOR isn't the second coming, not allowed. I'm surprised it didn't get locked.

I just ended up going back after the free weekend and them giving me a few days for changing my security settings. I had no issues getting 5 mans (experts). Still looks very busy and bustling.

I missed it too. Being able to play one character (cleric) and tank/heal/rdps/mdps with the push of a button, it's just nice. The new solo/two-man content is pretty neat also.

Rift really is only the kind of game that can be enjoyed in short burst. So all those who are saying that they missed Rift and went back to it will be burnt out again, in 1 or 2 months. That's why I can only play Rift for a single month at a time, for 5 months.

The future really is in GW2's Buy to Play model, because you'll basically get the whole game and can play it whenever you want, in small burst, without being completely burnt out.

True. Well at least partially.

If this is kind of game that is good to be played in short burst or if you're that kind of player.

I for example like to play rts of fps in short bursts, and in mmorpg's I like to commit for long-peroids of times.

It all depends of course what type of mmropg it is.

That mmropg's that are designed (intentionally or not) to be fun for short time (and then long break and repeat) I tend to avoid them.

That's one of main reasons I could not get into Rift I guess.
