if someone took the concept of these games and worked out a way to expand it into a mmo, e.g. ways to protect areas of land to mark as your own, things to team up on, including crafting activities that require groups. some sort of PVP implementation, but not your typical sandbox FFA PVP so as not to scare away the fans of the originals (im thinking maybe PVP islands or something) ways to trade, ways to build as a guild keep the getting dropped in somewhere random on your own thing, so it encourages people to find NEW friends, going for a new market, thoose who want to socialise with new people in mmos, rather than catering to the already guilded.
anyone think it would be a success?

It's certainly possible, with Haven&Hearth style territory claiming. Although honestly you'd spend so much time special-casing the rules specific to making it work as an MMO that you'd probably create something way more awesome by just having it be the same sort of small-scale multiplayer that Minecraft and Terraria are. That's where sandbox games work best. |

I would like to see a Terraria MMO more. It has a lot more action and random fighting from a slew of different enemies and bosses at all hours. Plus I like the 2D side/up/down scrolling more.
However, I still like Notch and MInecraft, and I'm looking forward to whatever else Mojang has plans on developing or publishing. |

I would hate to play an MMO version of Terraria. The whole appeal of the game (for me, anyway) is exploring the world and continuously inching your way into more and more areas. If played in a persistent world (even with a few dozen other people... it wouldn't have to be thousands), that sense of exploration would be greatly diminished. Every time you dug down towards an area you'd never been to, there's a very high chance that you'd end up just tunneling into a spot that's already been mined out (and thoroughly looted) by other players. ![]() |
