For the record: threads like this have occured since over a year ago. We all knew the Jedi Knight is highly inspired by the WoW Warrior, even back then. Its not so surprising, either. These attacks are mostly pretty generic.

WoW players will see WoW everywhere. That is Rule #1 of playng mmorpg's after WoW. Just like Rift players will compare GW2 dynamic events to Rift events. It is just going to happen.

 

WoW players have a extremely narrow view of how they view the mmo world. TOR could have tons of other differences and all they will focus on is the few similarities.

So what? You're saying they shouldn't have a charge ability, or an ability that causes aoe stuns. Nor should they have any big boss monster fights?

Sorry, but I've played WoW for 5 years, I have a lvl 45 vanguard in TOR as well as an assassin in the upper lvl 20 range and I don't find that this game plays like WoW at all apart from the obvious stuff.

Combat has a completely different pace and that is indeed caused by the groups of mobs attacking you. Not that the different pacing is always a good thing either mind you, WoW didn't have many of the activation time issues that plague some abilities in TOR.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

For several reasons

 

1. You are not disillusioned with the current MMO genre, on a mission to trash every game that wasn't "that old special game"

2. A sandbox fanatic

or

3. A burnout from playing the genre too much.

I fail to see the point... If you can offer a set of abilities that people feel familiar with why in the long tooth would you do a lot of wonky stuff with it "just to be different". Were i get my education that is called "art school crap" and widley regarded as a bad idea, never put form before function. And since it would not have finctioned better if it did +2% fire damamge and +3% electrict damage i fail to see how they woudl have made it different.. You need a main attac, a cone attack, a AoE attack, some form of self buff and so on and so forth.

 

But do elaborate please how you think that they could have done it better.

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but if I had time to sit down and think about it for a bit, I'll bet I (and a lot of other people) could come up with some great ideas that are either new, or uncommonly used enough that it would be new to a lot of people. Sadly I'm at work right now so time for posting is limited.

Maybe I'll get back to you.

A tankiing leather class (Druid)

It actually does not have a tanking chain class though.  But does Rift have a healing Plate class?

 

mage, rogue, warrior, and cleric in Rift is just cloth, leather, plate and chain.  One game has 32 talent trees, the other has 30.  Rift lets you mix and match more, WoW has better trees.

Lets face it, the ones that isn't are sandbox games or hybrids of other genres thrown into the mix.

 

Assuming there's a hidden message in that post about how the above is "different" then It really isn't fair to compare two seperate subgenres as they cater to two different audiences

As for the original post

 

SWTOR has the most fun and fluid combat (yes yes, I know the animation delay bug, I almost never experience it though) since WoW.  Maybe copying from WoW was a smart move?  Oddly enough, I onsider the warrior classes to be the least fun, and its the one that did the most direct copying.

WoW also has a 7 eyar head start. Don't worry 1 year and counting and Blizzard terrible for all of 2011. That will not be changing in 2012. I hope your not counting on Pokemon and Pandas to save WoW? Deathwing sure as hell was no ICC and did not even dent TOR's launch.

Have you looked at the pic at all? They didn't even bother changing half of the names.

If the pic is legit, of course. Which i find it hard to believe.

 

Why would calling it something else make any difference? It still does the same thing. If I have a shield and i call a skill 'bash' does it really make sense to call it 'slam' in another game??

 

MMORPGS have copy pasted the same skill sets since it's beginning. Renaming them for them only to have the exact same effect isn't going to disguise that

It wouldnt make any difference really, its the combat system that matters. But it shows how little they cared. It has surprised me. 130 milion dolars to that? Ok.

Define care. What you care about doesn't translate to what they should care about, nor does it translate into what I as a gamer should care about. You have to realize that the thoughts you have about things are yours alone. You may share the same sentiments with a group of people but that does not make you right or wrong.

 Well then what makes you more right then them? I think you need to take your own advise.

I'm sharing an opinion just like everyone else. I never claimed I was right and I always take my own advice. I do try and add some facts to a lot of my posts though just to switch it up

 You're preaching homie. Try reading your post again if you think otherwise.  They didn't do anything that you yourself aren't doing. Just stating their opinion but you think you some moral high ground and start peaching. The simple fact is you don't.

I fail to see the point... If you can offer a set of abilities that people feel familiar with why in the long tooth would you do a lot of wonky stuff with it "just to be different". Were i get my education that is called "art school crap" and widley regarded as a bad idea, never put form before function. And since it would not have finctioned better if it did +2% fire damamge and +3% electrict damage i fail to see how they woudl have made it different.. You need a main attac, a cone attack, a AoE attack, some form of self buff and so on and so forth.

 

But do elaborate please how you think that they could have done it better.

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but if I had time to sit down and think about it for a bit, I'll bet I (and a lot of other people) could come up with some great ideas that are either new, or uncommonly used enough that it would be new to a lot of people. Sadly I'm at work right now so time for posting is limited.

Yes but is there an emminent need for it? That's the question. I'm willing to bet there is a large group of customers that actually wants familiarity, maybe even to the point of being turned off by learning something new. I don't know that as a fact but I know a few people like that too.

 

There's smart business sense in keeping somethings similar if you want people to be able to sit down and get straight to it, specially coming from other MMOs

SWTOR has the most fun and fluid combat (yes yes, I know the animation delay bug, I almost never experience it though) since WoW.  Maybe copying from WoW was a smart move?  Oddly enough, I onsider the warrior classes to be the least fun, and its the one that did the most direct copying.

I can't help your reading comprehention anymore than I feel like having lengthy back and fourths trying to explain things to you because of that.

If you write "They do not care" you first have to prove that there's a reason to care as the pure basics of that argument. Second you would have to actually establish how you belong to a valuable group of players where this particular issue is important.

Saying somebody doesn't care about a feature could be correct. Acting like they SHOULD care about 1 particular issue is a whole other matter.

 

That's where the line between 'opinion' and trying to state a 'truth' gets blurred out. That's like you stating that I do not care about you. How do you know what I care about. It's a pointless comment

 

So yes there is a world of difference between what I write and what he has written. I don't make statements I can't back up
