When i craft , the mats dont need to be in my backback. Can be stored in my lockbox (bank). Never noticed that in any other mmo ive played.  The quick travel is a pretty cool function. I can bind at multiple locations not one Inn at a time. I live that. Agian dont know if its all been done before just little things like that ive ntoiced which have impressed me.

Oh and  do enjoy the sith corruption facial features. The mroe evil you become the more evil you look. Didnt see that in the other 2 Star Wars MMO's so guess its not been done before :)

OP's post was about innovation, not improvement on an idea or system already in existance. People are getting off track. There is nothing innovative about someone else's idea. need an example? Fine, Windows. There you go.

So multiplayer dungeons where the players all have input into the conversation choices that can lead to different paths is an improvement on what game's idea?

Please name the game I need to play it.

Most co-op games have choices that lead to different paths that players make together.  Anytime you are adventuring any ANY coop game and there is a choice, that is a choice that the group makes together.

SWTOR just dumbed it down by making it so each person votes and then the game randomly chooses one.  That way it minimizes interaction with other players as you decide as a group what to do next.  It also minimizes the effects of one person 'leading' the group.  It also removes the opportunity for group members to part ways temporarily or perminantly during an adventure.  So basically it REMOVES SOCIAL ASPECTS from co-op adventuring.  That is not innovative...

Name the game sir, and please note that we are talking about mmos, the op said MMO's not co op games, stop moving the goal posts, name an mmo that allows this please.

I jus told you that EVERY open world cooperative RPG ever in existance, including all MMO's that include cooperation and role-playing elements will have players grouping and making choices together about what to do and where to go next.

That is EVERY MMO on the market, every MMO on the list here at MMORPG.com.  They ALL have cooperative play where players make choices together about what to do in-game.  SWTOR limits those choices down to a 3-panel cinematic response where the groups choice is chosen randomly rather by consensus or leadership.  Most MMOs are much more in-depth and require players to communicate and socialize with each other while making key decisions in dungeons and other aspects of gameplay.

Thats not what he's talking about, he's talking about decisions changing the course of a story in an MMO. Which was a simple answer to a simple question. "Give me 1 thing, that SWTOR does 100% different or new from any MMORPG ever made."

You're not even in the same ballpark here with your reply. This isn't about saying, "where to next?" to your group.

I'm having fun.  Don't give a shit about "new and innovative" or "what is the game doing that no other game has done before".  Don't like the game?  Stop playing it and go do something else.  No need to post a poorly veiled "i hate this game" thread on a website that doesn't really matter.

Personally, I like my cars to have 4 wheels, but that's just me.

the crafting system using companions to do everything for you. The datacron hunt to permantely increase your stats. Class specific quests that get very detailed. The Legacy system.

DDO has abilities/choices changing the course of an instance, and far more pronounced than in SWTOR. I mean come on, the choices are bogus, not even the relationship gain/loss towards your companion matters because A) you can dismiss him before making a choice he doesn't like, or B) just bribe him back later with companion gifts.

Having to do two mouse clicks or a spending a couple credits are hardly farreaching consequences. Hell why would i even care what my companion thinks of me if im not into crafting heavily(because im not biochem for example) or want to romance it?

And most of the time its only the first sentence that changes as others pointed out. Sure some quests have some more consequences, but even then its mostly always inconseqential/RP changes. And i don't know about you but i roleplay with other players, not some NPC in a private convo.

There are a lot of issues with the game but these threads are getting sad.

I enjoy the fact that I can stop questing , do some space combat , pvp a bit , explore for datacrons, all the while gaining levels and having my companions crafting.

Is it innovative? You can probably find all kinds of similarities to other mmos but not one that combines and puts it together like satire.

Again, there are glaring issues with the game, but its hella addictive and extremely enjoyable.

Rubbish.

The "choice" the vast majority of MMOs present you with is:

A) Do the quest.

B) Don't do the quest.

Player choice doesn't even come into it.

Actually, wormywyrm is totally correct.  This is because he is basing that the whole gaming experience in other mmorpg's is the story.  Other mmorpg's do not have the story explicityly thrown to the players like in SWTOR... it's what the players do that is the story.  So, players in groups that make decisions on what to do with their group time does, in fact, affect those players' stories.

And, before you start spouting the "We are not talking about a sandbox!" card, this applies to themepark mmorpgs as well.  What the player does with their gametime IS their own story.

There's nothing ANY MMO does that is "100% different or new" from past titles. Not WoW, not EVE Online, not Age of Conan, nothing. What this game does improve on is the presentation of a coherent storyline. There has never been an MMO before ToR that has managed to offer the player a well-written, epic storyline that ties to the actual gameplay so well that the player can truly feel like they've impacted the world their character lives in.

what's the use of this topic? which mmo invented the genre new? even the first mmos just enhanced the given multiplayer functionality of older ones, took RPG gfx and voila. nothing new basically ^^ same argument could be done for shooters "name one thing that BF3 had that NO other game had!" that's not the important part in making a new game, you just have to be better than the competition, use a world the audience prefers and make it work.

I don't know how that matters but can you name me any one MMO that does something 100% different because all MMOS are just improving on features that already exist. For 100% unique stuff you might have to wait forever.

Frankly I don't play a MMO because it has something new, I play it because it is fun.  SWToR is fun so I play it, end of story!

Unfornatly the crafting system has been seen in many other free to play mmo that done before SWTOR (companion does the crafting and gathering).
