Originally posted by h0tangel99 I played it before it went F2P. I enjoyed it a lot. Great graphics and a good mature community. I just lost interest after couple of years. It's F2P now so what do you have to lose by trying it? |

Its the only themepark MMO I will log into at this time. If you do play, come to Crickhollow server, its like a country town where everyone knows everyone. Some of the key things to do are: \joinchannel GLFF and \joinchannel gmoors Then create an additional chat tab and filter it to include these 2 channels. This is where all the grouping talk happens and all the pvp chat. So many people are not aware of this. Anyway, I'm going to log in for a few hours now, and later on today we are doing our weekly Dragioch (dragon) 12 man raid. Looking forward to it.
Playing: Lotro (lifer), Tera, D3 (addicted to levelling hardcore characters) |

Prior to the F2P implementation, I would have encouraged playing it. As it stands right now, I can't see any good reason to play it. The best I can do is provide you with positive and negative things about the game, and let you decide after doing some research. Positive 1. First and foremost, the setting is Middle Earth during the Third Age. You will experience the story, at least in its periphery, as seen in the books. The game is story driven and some areas require you to have completed storylines related to their lore. Moria is a good example of this. 2. The classes all have a unique feel to them. I started out with a loremaster - which primarily focuses on crowd control and damage over time - and I loved it (until Moria). Each class offers something to the party and this game has mostly avoided class homogenization. 3. The graphics are wonderful and the game world itself is skillfully created. Each area feels unique and offers a compelling atmosphere, rich with lore and exploration. 4. Legendary weapons you can level up 5. The ability to form an in-game band Negative 1. The combat is not smooth, in any way, and can be greatly frustrating in tense moments. I recall many times on my loremaster wanting to use an interrupt but because of the animation delays, it was mis-timed and counted for nothing. Guardians' skills activate slowly and have animation delays after them, hunter's skills often activate slowly and then have an induction time on them. The worst is trying to heal. I leveled a minstrel to 65, before the cap was raised, and found healing to be absolutely atrocious. The animation delay is by far one of the poorest thought out game features I have ever had the frustration of experiencing. 2. Grind. There is a lot of it. The game offers a virtue system, which basically makes grinding achievements essential for your character to be viable. Prepare to use a skill 1000 times (no exaggeration) and kill thousands of the same mob to acquire the basic functionality of your character. 3. Skirmishes. I can't tell you how many times I have ragequit these wonders. You'll be low on mana (forget its title) and will not be able to control your companion to any useful degree. I never found the experience gained during these to be anything worth their time. Once again, it's more grinding for coins of some sort. 4. The Store lacks usability 5. Dread. Worst game mechanic ever. It's been a year or so since I have sincerely played this game, I quit after Siege of Mirkwood for many reasons. The combined frustrations and the manner in which the store functions, I no longer found any joy in the game. I encourage you to research the game, try the free-to-play (prepare to pay for every little thing) and come to your own conclusions. Sadly, I don't think it will be as enjoyable as was for me in 2007-2010. |

Nah I would advise against.
Lotro used to be great game BUT it underwent great changes, bad changes.
Awful grind, content is getting more and more bugged, game revolve more and more around cash shop(pvp on monster side is basically p2w) lately nad newest zones are FAR worse than first zones that are great.
Imo quality of this game just simply dropped with alot of small changes here and there. |

Well I haven't posted anything here for a while but will on this. I play Lotro have sense day one and can say that the game has changed alot but not really for the bad IMO. They made things easier to achsess is all with the instance finder and the scaling dungeons and skirmishes. The game has some of the best group play to date for dungeon running and will admit you can solo to max easy if your into that. I started of Windfolla and have sense moved to Riddlemark do to player base not all capped I take my time with games not rush it so no max level toons and of course I take 2-3 mopnth breaks from games to play others but this is still one of my main games I play. One thing this game has is a great history and lore the PvP/Monster play is good when your max lvl hero or you have more then one monster to play (Silver Member been tis way sense F2P). I have not payed to play almost any game sense this released F2P. This game has alot going for it from what I have played through just now getting to Isengard and loving it so far. My friends and some family play it as well and they all enoy it alot because its not all flashy on gear and spell effects this feels more real type combat then flashy lighting strikes from your sword. The Legendary system takes a little to get used to at first but one of the best editions in the game plus they lvl with you. As for all the negative your getting is standerd in todays MMO I personaly dont like WoW because I dont like the fluppy eared elfs well graphics to me suck. But I do mess with it from time to time on my free to 20 play account. Lotro isnt for everyone like any game but its better to just try it your self then decide for your self. Myself I bounce around alot on games so I mostly end up here more then any where else also you can unlock all content and skirmishes and other stuff for under $100 in there Turbine Points upto Isengard that will be a higher price for now till they do another point sale. Also F2P didn't ruin the game it did make it more tho but didn't make it uber pay to win or anything its really ust that a store for this and that. You can earn enough points to get what you need per toon such as trait slots and riding skill from basic play everything else like quest areas and so on can be done this way but takes along time. Well thats it really sorry for the mish mash of stuff but don't reveiw stuff much and this is just my personal opinion. |

Originally posted by eddieg50 lol, i was going to post the opposite - that it's like SWTOR, only with a world and story that actually make sense (largely).
i guess it's a matter of taste, the story in TOR is aimed at the average age of about 4, which is lucas' usual target audience.
but anyhow, it's still a good game and pretty much only game other than EVE that i come back to on a regular basis even though it's not my full time MMO.
however, given that the OP doesn't like reading and didn't like the story-driven TOR, i wouldn't recommend playing LoTRO>
If you like PvP and don't like to read, i suggest AION or AoC, they're more PvP focused games. "I’d rather work on something with great potential than on fulfilling a promise of mediocrity." |

My only major complaint with the game is that Turbine is horrendously slow at fixing bugs. For instance, the Runekeeper trait line bonuses were broken for nearly two years. I think they only just fixed it in the most recent expansion. Playing - LotRO, SWToR |

Firstly, it's free to play. Give it a try. If you're a fan of Tolkien or LoTR in general, you'll definitely like in terms of the locations, graphics and lore. |

If there is anyone who likes to play a little more casual style and would love to get into rp, this game shines. If someone would like to social network their toons with others who enjoy the Tolkien setting, this game shines again. The music system, the horse owning and the outfit (wardrobe) system rocks for those who want a second passtime from questing and fighting. The questing is generally first class up to Moria. After that some thnk the game has gone down hill. I dont think that way myself. PVP or PVMP is not as robust as some like, but hey, many do llike it.
What might make the game better is : Different legendary weapon system Character graphics updating Less themepark-linear. But this game follows a storyline that cannot be changed to any large degree. A couple more class skills availability.
Finally, this game is not for all types of players. Some love fast twitchy gameplay and others look for thier own niches. this game fits certain player styles very well and not much can be done about that. |

It is a good game, you should give it a try. Thats the best way to see if this game is for you. If you like Rp and story based lore, you will like it, and its PvE oriented mmo, not PvP (but there is some PvP in the game, its called monster play). It is more slow paced game, so if you like to immerse yourself in lore and character and dont like leveling to max lev in few days or nonstop grind, this could be mmo for you. |

I'd say yes if you have not.It really has a certain charm. I'd say yes to the same question about Rift or AoC (for example) too. |

i didnt like Lotro enough to stick with it. I loved the movies, but the game is just not as good as the movies. Plus i didnt like any of the classes in the game (how they were implemented) but thats just me Try it for yourself and decide. |
