Perma death is a no go to me. Severe death penalties however I'd have no problem with that, I think it adds spice to the gameplay.

dont think in permadeath as a rule applied to ur average themepark. Ex : " my RAID party got wiped..."OMG Permadeath"
think in permadeath as a mechanic to punish griefers for example >> " player A , level 60 killed 3 players lvl 20 and below in a row, permadeath mark in A, so if he gets owned in a timeframe bb"
" or to apply in a case of a careless player >>> ex > " limited number of lives per level for PvE deaths"
can make the games a lot more interesting |

1. Griefers won't be a problem because they die, too. 2. There is PLENTY of Carebear MMOs on the market today. In fact... there is to many copy/paste carebear MMOs competing for the SAME players. There is over 7000000000 people on this planet and people make a fuss because WoW once obtained 13 million of those? What games are the other 6987000000 people playing? It's beyond my ability to choose such a retarded choice as to design more games LIKE WoW. Game companies need to target what is desired by 6987000000+ other people on the planet. There is an abundance of gamers that LOVE the idea of permadeath. Right now, the lack thereof keeps me away from MMOs. Any game(s) that incorporate this machanic will attract several of the slice 6987000000 slices of pie. There is no guarantee the permadeath system will make a game great, but it will ADD to whatever degree the rest of its existence is. 3. There is a massive market of players that is continuing to grow that will gravitate towards permadeath games. Why? Because gamers eventually become elite players and elite players leave carebear games. 4. I used to play a LOT of MMOs, but presently I don't play any MMOs and I know several others not playing for the same reasons. One of those main reasons is character immortality.
If a game is going to have DEATH in it (not immortality), it needs to be developed that way. The MMOs on the market today would benefit from making servers with it as the death mechanic, but they are balanced as time sinks to keep players invested (just like no fail Facebook games) - players that are playing immortal characters. I mean, come on, people, your hero is no hero at all, they can't die! Wake up! You have NOTHING to brag about your achievements. What, you camped a book for 2.5 hours so you could click it and add it's achievement to your list? When I show up with a massive group of players and bring down a powerful Dragon, I want the experience to be memorable. Not something I do once per week in an instance so we can get 1 piece of non-sensical loot to help some guy get his 'drop'.
