Next thing you will be telling people at a restaurant they have never been to before, that they have no idea what they might like or dislike since they havent tried the offerings -- you read the darn description guy and then make a decision...make sense ?  i sure hope so.

I'm sorry, if all you have to gauge your opinion on is heresay, then no it's not a well informed opinion. Just like reading a description tells you nothing of how a dish actually tastes for better or worse...

A write up can give you an idea, but considering tastes differ, different combinations can create a uniqueness; you've yet to experience, add to that the fact that there are so many different impressions to read from, who's to say what Is accurate unless you try it for yourself?

Title should be: they got it eh for this old timer.

Because "this" old timer, me, thinks it's a C effort at best. I think Episode 1 > SWtOR just because the pod race felt less on tracks than this game.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

Bioware did an excellant job recapturing the bounty hunter feel. The bounty hunter story line is one of my favorites. I am glad to hear that you had fun and that is what playing a video game is all about.

I never got to play a Bounty Hunter, but oncve you get past the story, is there anything you do in game that allows your Bounty Hunter to, you know, find fugitives and stuff?   Playing as Smuggler there was nothing, besides the stuff in the Smuggler story, in game that allowed a player to play as a Smuggler.    So I am curious.   Are their Bounty missions players can take in this game?

Do you mean in actual mechanics? In the story, you are actually hunting bounties as would be expected. The twists and turns in the story line while doing bounty hunting is what makes the character's story fun. There is some divergence in later mission goals based on dialogue selected (similiar to flashpoints). The game holds your hand for the first few levels.

Yes I knwo there story arc for the Bounty Hunter, but past that, what in game mechanics allow you to play as a Bounty Hunter?  Are there missions at end game that send you after people?

I don't think it has dynamic quests like the ones you (and I) desire. They really should add...assassin hits..bounty hunter marks and smuggler (get object/person from point a to point b ) type dynamic /truly random quests. Even if they have to just add a few non-repeatable quests each week in weekly updates for each class that involve their chosen speciality. No whole setup...it could be a holocall with new info or a message in the mailbox with a new job. After they're done they're done. Very little repeats of targets .At the least have a bounty board for hunters like SWG. then you go randomly capture/kill whoever (they really should have a subdue option for wanted dead or alive bounties) on whatever planet...They could just make it a new mob each day. One of the pre-existing mobs..maybe steroided up for that mission(if they can do this..phasing maybe?). No voice acting is even needed..though it would be nice (just use the same guy in a holocall for everyone even). With something basic like this for every class so you can still feel like an agent ..assassin etc even after your storyline is in hiatus.(I'm assuming expansions will add more story)

Thank you to the OP for an honest opinion not full of rage and hate.  So many responses (good or bad) have had such a negative tone, and I appreciate the truths you explained.

I second everything you stated and more.  You can't please everyone, this is very true, but you can please the majority.  :)

I do feel the majority of MMO gamers will enjoy this game, and this game has the potential to put an extreme hurting on the WoW population.  There are so many aspects of this game that are superior to WoW.  Sorry for comparing everything to WoW, but when you are the big kid on the mountain it  just works out that way.

Star Wars fans should enjoy this game nicely.  The music was typical Star Wars, and the sound effects were amazing... Spot On!  I was hooked right at the opening credits after you pick your class... "A Long Time Ago... etc... BOOM -- STAR WARS IN YOUR FACE!"  It gets me every time I hear the John Williams opening track.  Makes me feel like a kid all over again!

Thumbs up again to the OP.

Yup, that's all part of your personal storyline.  (Troll harder next time)

Hey, I am asking a question a question here.  Is there or isn't there quest or things to do, outside the main character story, that involves being a Bounty Hunter?

Oh, so now they have to be "outside the main character story".  Are you going to keep refining your question until you have an excuse to go on a rant about it being a themepark style game?  Sorry, your post history gives you away.  This game isn't for you, just move on.

Hahah!  Yes!  How dare you ask if there is anything to do in this "MMORPG" than quest or play hutball!

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

The features in this game are hardly "old timey"

This isn't a knock on the game, just stating a fact, such as the sky is blue.

I'm sorry, I just wanted to check...in the post just before this, arent you the guy who said he had not played and had no intention of playing? So basically your opinion you are sharing here is based on pretty much nothing other than hot air, and we should take it for what it is?
Just checking.

I'll be generous.

I do believe that people are capable of doing pretty much what you said, but as evidenced by what you have said, I think it's pretty obvious that you arent one of those people. No shame in that.

Ever hear the adage: "The true test of a man's intelligence is to the degree to which he agrees with you."? It sure seems like that's exactly what you've done, sought out opinions that happen to agree with you, and to validate what you are feeling, even if those opinions arent based on fact. See the problem with your train of thought here? If the people you are relying on arent basing their opinion on facts, how sound is yours, and why should any take, value, or listen seriously to where you are coming from?

As far as taste, fair enough, I've always said games arent for everyone, and you should play something that suits you. However some of the more amusing claims, like it being really a single player RPG instead of an MMO could not be farther from the truth, but...to each his own. I definitely respect someone not liking it for what it is, but to dislike something for a perception that isnt accurate sounds more than a little foolish.

To say I sought out people who agree with me is a bit of a stretch...unless you think biowares own assessment of story driven gameplay is where you are steering your ship.  The fact the game uses extensive cut scenes, and loads of voice acting akin to their DA and ME titles, is not a result of me desperately seeking out those who agree with me, rather it is based off of factual data that relates to gameplay.  I think you are trying far too hard to come across as witty and clever.

Uhm...no.  I'm not anywhere near sold on this title, but this is plain factually wrong. BioWare was making SWTOR long before EA purchased the company. It was always going to be an MMO.  Now yes, EA probably saw in BioWare a budding Blizzard cash cow and hoped to get in on the ground floor by buying the BW.  But the purchase happened well into the development cycle of SWTOR.

But that's what the personal story is for, BH for BH stuff and Agent for Agent stuff and so on. I dont quite follow, are you asking for some special bounty hunter tailored dailies or what?

Oh and yeah, looking at your post history, since you've already made up your mind, why dont you simply let go? Just makes you look like some grumpy old hag stalking at an opportunity to bite. Dont cling to stuff that you dont like, improves the quality of life, if not much, at least a bit.

i am an original star wars fan and all this game did was remind me of how crappy the new stars wars franchise is and how much of a sellout george lucas is.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

There's some lovely filth down here.

@OP:  Hear, hear!  I found myself loving the initial zone.  After wholeheartedly refusing to jump on the SWTOR bandwagon, I've not only hopped on, I'm driving the thing.  The story line, npcs, everything is just cool.  Even the blaster sounds are spiffy - as I heard some random shooting in the background, the first thing I thought about was the hangar bay in Mos Eisley.  I then pictured my obese Twi'lek smuggler chasing down some baddies through the hangar corridors...

I'm gonna have fun with this game.  I've had to limit my beta time this weekend due NOT to time/family constraints, but to the "I don't wanna ruin it for launch" constraint.  I will be preordering here in a bit, mainly because yes, they got it right for us old-timers.

As an old timer who watched the original movie with his wife I have to agree with the OP. After Cata incinerated my WoW love, I;ve despaired of finding another great MMO but this was more than even I expected. I read lots of reviews and speculation and my anticipation ranged from 50% to 10% (after the bad press from EAlouse).

Played both factions and all available classes to a max of lvl 10 and will put in my buy order and max sub offer (6 mths iirc). In my book its a 90/100 and now my only concern is this Bioware 'choices'  option which has given me some anxious moments. It adds light/dark points but I don't really understand what effect they will have on my character and companion.

I own ME, ME2 and KOTOR but have only ever played 10 min of ME, so I am very clueless. I figure when I am feeling cranky I will log on an Empire character and conversely will join the Republic when feeling virtuous. Another thing I found disconcerting was companion points. It feels like going out with my wife where I have to always watch my 'P's and 'Q's so I don't get into her bad books.

Also heartfelt thanks to anyone who can point me to a primer on the above as well as crafting as it applies to SWTOR.
