The big problem with the way the quest story is presented in Rift is its painfully boring to read. Most of the quest givers have absolutely no personality at all, and its overly wordy.
As for the rushed name thing, well the company that did the best job at creating tis own lore also had some of the laziest names ever. Two main cities, one the very generic sounding Freeport and the other is Sonyeq spelled backwards. And then their love of anagrams. Goddes of Nature = Tunare, the boss of the plane of EARTH is the RATHE council, boss of the plane of air is Xegony (oxygen) and so on...

nothing short of removing raiding will ever get me back into Rift. |

Good list. First point is all that matters. Everyone loves their alts, well almost everyone, and this game suffers from a severe lack of alternate leveling paths/zones for alts. It's one of the reasons WoW did so well, you could literally take 2 different races up to level cap and NEVER see the exact same quests unless you wanted to. Sadly, this is also an issue SWTOR is going to face, but that's a subject for a month from now. More low level zones and mid level zones, yes please. More game systems, too like housing, guild housing, new crafting professions to go with it, in other words, don't be like Blizzard with content patching be like Turbine and SOE. Add new game systems |

I was one of those players that left because of Rift's "lack of soul" - which is ironic considering the soul system is one of its highlights. Overall, I enjoyed the aesthetic and atmosphere. I appreciated the polished gameplay mechanics. However, I'm done with quest/dungeon/daily grinding. 4-5 Years ago, I'd sub without question - but at this point, its just so same-old-same-old. Trion accomplished what they set out to do, and I won't fault them for that. I'd like to see rift push the rift system even further. Make it feel more dynamic and less formulaic. I lost interest because I knew what to expect with each rift and each event. Apply rift mechanics to other 'dynamic' content (bandits taking parts of a zone under control or a pack of dire wolves wreaking havok on a village for example). Trion could very well accomplish what Arena.net is set to do with GW2 (essentially replacing the quest grind with dynamic events). I do appreciate seeing Trion to continue to add content (i.e. value to the game). I have often times reconsidered opening my sub just because Trion has continued to produce chunks of content at quite a fast pace. Based on previews from players and press alike - StOR may have tried and true mechanics, but because of the presentation of the main scenario, players feel like they're playing and enjoying a game vs grinding content just to get to the next carrot. Rift has that potential, the developers just need to push the envelope even further.

I see many people mentioning housing here. Keep in mind that an exciting housing system that keeps you busy for a while needs to be supported by several "sub-systems" so to say. Like you need furniture, maybe a garden (growing plants and flowers), perhaps some domestic animals around, agriculture would rock. So I think the needed content to present housing in a an exiting and new way that you haven't experienced in plenty of other games before is more than what fits into a regular patch. But way more than housing, Russ' mentioned "complete new world" sounds great. It's what the game needs way before (instanced?) housing that adds little to nothing to Telara. |

Originally posted by rwyan I get this strange feeling with ToR people are going to blow through the content and when they ask for more to do at end game they are going to get told to reroll and wait for new stuff. I saw it in WoW all the time and Bioware seems way to confident. |

Yep, that's my take too.
It's tough to just plop down houses in the middle of Rift lore where it makes any kind of sense without some backstory or other types of things. This is why I have don't think it's going to be soon for this feature and the same reason AION couldn't do it either right away. People just going to have to be patient period. |

Doubtful. The replayability gives it more diversity than Rift.. no one denies that. So someone could hit endgame, do the raiding content there (they'll probably have two raids by the time average guilds hit endgame) and if need be, they'd probably want to dabble in the other classes.
If you look at what most people are saying, they can't even decide which two Republic toons to roll first (like Smuggler or Trooper) because they see more than one class they want to do, let alone even what two they want to do on the Sith side. This is what plagued Rift.. if you seen one, you seen em' all. People were told that in Rift, I think they'll voluntarily do it in TOR without someone saying that. |

Rift took the approach that 'we dont need as much content because people wont have to roll alts with our system' without realizing that people WANT to roll alts.
A lot of this is because at max level, your character progression stops. Yes, they later added PA, but that system is just two minor for it to work as it does for EQ1. Maybe the second tier will fix that. |

Originally posted by teakbois I was never a alt-aholic. I am not sure where exactly this new found love for alts came from in the mmo world. You roll alts when there is nothing to do on your main unless that has suddenly changed in the mmo world.
The game launched on a budget what can I say. It is still pretty complete when you put it next to Star Wars. They are pushing 15 flashpoints on a budget probably 3 times as much as Rifts and Bioware and EA on it too.
Honestly from ToR I expected more then 15 flashpoints and one 5 boss raid on launch. |

New found? People have been rolling alts since after EQ1 when the leveling was lowered much across the industry. Even during EQ vets rolled alts. In WoW (2004 release) alts were always the rage. FFXI had tons of alts and subjobs as a grindy game. EQ2 people rolled alts consistently, usually for both sides. Both of those games have been out almost eight YEARS now so it's hardly newfound. Heck, even in AION I bet you had at least two 50s and that was a grind game. I know I had 4 of them in one year.

There are many reasons to roll alts, but this was a pretty uncommon one in the old days. In the era of glacial development (WoW) and rush to end game (Rift) its become more common though.
Top 2 reasons people roll alts (and its foten a combo of both): 1. To try out a new class (lots of people in Rift have a 50 of each class for example) 2. Because the old content is fun (used a lot in EQ1 and WoW) |

I feel Rift needs a reworking of the talent system
While it provides a lot of options, a lot of those option are severely overlapping with other souls, thus the game suffers from 'hotkey allergy' Instead of a skill that does one specific purpose, make one damage skill, and players can use the talent tree to modify how the skill works. For example: fireblade causes 10 damage initially But with the talent tree you can either
so instead of 7 skills that does differnt things, players have to choose between them, forcing them to make a choice, which is what customisation is all about. In the end, players have around 10 damage skills that they can upgrade and modify with the talent system, as oppose to having to manage 50 skills at the same time. Because currently, RIFT provides options, but there aren't freedom in customisation, if you want to spec a riftstalker, theres almost only 2-3 spec that works really well. How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? |

i want different starting areas to promote alt rolling... i want more actual villages / cities with many houses and walkways. Not just quest hubs with no sense of civilization... Not even Meridian and Sanctum are cities.... there are no houses there just tents and people scattered all over the place... i want more playable races that could potentially fit the lore more maps (perhaps expand the leveling experience by adding more areas of all lvls in order to have variety. Therefore becoming a less linear progression where yo have some options to go level ) i want more stuff but this is what most important to me right now besides the end game contend taht everyone wants

3rd faction (I want to serve Regulos). And do more with the 1-20 game. It's always 'endgame' this and 'endgame' that. I want wardrobe items and mount variety for the early game as not everyone is into leveling as fast as possible. That would maybe keep lower level zones from ending up like ghost towns if folks had a reason to play at all levels of the game (and be able to turn of xp). Maybe I'm alone here but as I go from mmo to mmo (over the last 15 years) I spend way too much time rerolling or leveling slowly and just experiencing the early game because the game dynamic suits me more than that hypertense 'endgame'. UO.EQ.AC.Lineage.DAoC.E&B.AO.EQ2.SWG.MxO.EVE.Hor.COH.DDO.GW.LOTRO.Mabi.DCuo.Rift.FE. I rarely find my way back to argue.. |

like some posters here, I would like to see the devs add more starting zone, make the world bigger!
however don't add too many things too fast! if not 1 year down the road they will run out of new ideas and keep rehearsing old contents RIP Orc Choppa |

I want to see more non combat oriented things to do, like fishing, or maybe a vanguard style diplomacy game. |

Originally posted by Morgaren Agreed, but even more I would like some "Thief" styled stealth missions if you remember that old game. I also want a little more focus on the story, some better written and less standard quests. |

What will happen is: 1) End content for ALL of the dragons. (Life, Death, Water, Fire currently, Air or Earth next) 2) Take the battle to each of the dragon realms (possible expansion) 3) ? |
