It is not RIFT it is YOU! All  MMOs feel boring and lacking something if you play them just as a game! I have a great time in RIFT, WOW, EQ2, and so many more MMOs that people call boring. I have fun because I use my imagination and enjoy the amazing worlds the artists work hard to bring to me. I am so tired of all the boring players complaining about all the crappy MMOs out there. Most who complain play them like a console game. Your avatars are just vehicles to drive around the game world. MMOs have not gotten boring the players have. No one role plays any more and if you do you are treated like a nerd. My avatars are little being to me that live in these world that the developers created.

MMOs are bigger and better then ever before. Start using your imaginations and get into the world instead of play just another game. Turn off the TV and your mp3 player when you play and allow yourself to get drawn into the experience. Look at all the detail not just rush to end game. It is not the developers fault you choose not to allow yourself the fun of being in the game. Read the quests respond to others as your character would and have some fun. If you don't like it shut the hell up and move on. No one needs you to elighten them to the fact they are not really having fun when they are. RIFT is a wonderfully detailed world and filled with visual treats everywhere. It is funny I am over 50 years old and I play these games with the joy and imagination of a kid. Picasso had it right when he said "It takes a life time to be young".

I have to agree. Normally when I get home, I hop into a ventrilo server where the majority of my friends hang out. For me, hanging out in ventrilo is the equivalent of hanging out somewhere and chilling with friends.

But when I want to play a single player game where I want to become immersed (SC2 campaign, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Witcher, etc.), I log out of vent and no longer run through the game while talking to my friends.

I did the same thing in WoW when cataclysm came out. I created a new undead character, and played through the new Undead questing zones. Stopping to read all the new quest dialogue and exploring the changed areas. I had tons of fun doing so, and wouldn't of had nearly as much fun or spent nearly as much time if I just did the normal "accept all quests skipping the text and looking at map for quest locations".

I think we're more of a minority now, which is a shame. Some day our rise will come back. Some MMO will come in and bring all of us together again. Until then, I'm stuck playing on RP servers for MMOs and hoping the trolls didn't flood the server yet.

Rift does have some issues and for some people the game does not work. I think the most important thing coming out of Rift is the fact Trion is a quality dev and seems to have their goals in the right place.

I'm placing my bets on Rift to go the long run. As time goes on and they learn how to make the events more fun and rewarding it gets better plus they roll out content at such an extreme pace.

What about how Rifts world is lacking? I can't just imagine up new zones and go play in those instead.  Rift opened up with only a single starting area for each race and likely enough zones that I wouldnt have to resort to counting on my toes if I wanted to total them up.  The world in rift is surprisingly small, not to mention the main cities arent even really cities compared to games like WoW or even Aion, they are pathetic excuses for social hubs.

When I played the game I leveld up to level 30, which is 60% to max level and I had only been in two different zones to level.  Even comparing this to WoW back in Vanilla, by 30 you likely would have trumped through 3 to 4 zones by then. (Just questing, not exploring).  The invasions and rifts are so repetitive that the only reason you decide to do them is because you get tokens for gear (that you easily outlevel because of the stupidly fast pace).  Even the major invasions are only barely fun and thats just because there are so many people standing still shooting fireballs at the boss.

Rift is lacking, dont try to deny it.  When Archeage, SWTOR, and GW2 come out RIFT will truely be able to see if its just me or the game itself.  My bets are on a decline in population for greener waters due to the lack of depth that Rift has.

Anytime a game I'm paying $15/month tells me to "use my imagination" because their content is boring and doesn't draw me in, that's when I leave it.

Hitting 50 and doing nothing but raiding with lackluster PvP isn't my idea of fun, and I don't know how to stretch that out for imagination's sake. Maybe the first 50 times in dungeons I could use my imagination but with 3 50s there isn't that much Johnny Five year old imagining around.

Sorry :( Bring on the next mmo please.

I'd have to agree all around. But on the second part, it really shows what a good dev team can do, and is really starting to put blizzard in perspective a bit imo. For the amount of polish and content Trion is pumping out, it's hard to imagine why Blizzard cannot do the same amount with more money.

Because Blizzard doesn't want to put all new ideas into WoW. That much should be obvious.

They are actually making another mmo codename "Titan" in case you didn't know. Makes no sense to waste good ideas on a game you'll probably scrap in two or three years time.

Better off to save them and put them all in the new one.

its not me - its the game world of RIFT

I had less fun in RIFT than Warhammer and Age of Conan

those 2 game had many more problems / bugs and LESS POLISH

-- but the worlds and lore were more immersive and fun for me

They've been working on Titan for quite some time now with little information. I seem to remember Blizzard making a game called Starcraft: Ghost for a long time. That didn't end too well. The thing is, if I'm paying to subscribe to WoW, I should be seeing something come out of it in WoW, not another game by them. If I want to support the other game, I would pay towards that one.

I never found RIFT to be lacking at all....I actually found it to be immersive, fun, and richly detailed.

The one thing keeping me from playing this game more often is the length of time it takes to carve a path through trash mobs.

I am spoiled by another game that I am playing, with a faster-paced combat system.

Yep it's my fault that Trion created a game that I had already been playing for 5 years. Instead of being distracted by all the pretty lights and colors, try paying attention to the core aspects of the game. Once you do that, ask yourself, "is this really a game I want to spend my time playing?" After all, many players who quit WoW, did so for a reason.

Now if I wanted to "use my imagination" to be immersed in a fantasy, I'd probably go read a fantasy novel.

I liked MMOs better when gamers didn't play them, and just geeks did.

10/18/11 8:04:45 PM#13

Sorry OP I disagree. There are still MMOs out there that hold my interest, but Rift, while it is well made, is just a souless husk of a world. The quests aren't compelling, the world feels plastic and the characters all look the same. While I'm at it, being able to have 5 different soul builds, making it so you can do anything at any time, completely changing how your character plays takes away from any attachment I would have had to my character, because he is not unique. While this sounded like a great idea on paper, it ended up being the nail that sealed the coffin for me.

That's what WoW is, casual. Errr.. and that's what Rift is, casual as well, lol.

So again, why pump new ideas into WoW when in a few years you'll have an expensive, long developed NEW casual game that you can put the ideas you come up with now to and develop?

If I was Blizzard I'd do the same exact thing. Just keep giving people content but nothing innovative. If you use those ideas there, then people will get Titan and say "Bleh, I've seen this before in WoW. This is just WoW 2.0. GIVE US NEW IDEAS!"

Smart business move to hold new ideas and sent them to the Titan team.

I agree, but you aren't subbed to WoW so that's a moot point. Neither am I.

So unless the people playing WoW scream and yell, I'd keep doing what they are doing as a business. It's worked for awhile.. stretches with no content then, WHAM! content.

Whatever you have to tell yourself, so you can sleep at night. If you want to blame me for boring, cut&paste gameplay you only make yourself look like a fool.

Na, its just the fantasy setting.  Rift's is about as generic as it gets.  Not that its a bad game at all, its very well made.  I just didnt care for the world or the graphics

I'm more a sci-fi guy anyway, TOR is my next main MMO.

Nothing against Rift.  It just didnt have what I wanted.

hmmz maybe when it launched it was similar, but literally move in the last 7 months is stuff Blizzard told me could not be done. This WoW clone thing does not exactly apply in any way shape or form anymore.

Rift does have a story, but when for a year straight you have another MMO saying, " we are more story driven and our stuff is voiced" and people can not figure why they can not get into it. This is dangerous because no new dev will ever be able to live up to that.

ToR took 5 years and 100's of millions of dollars to make and a epic ton of voice acting. No mmo will ever be able to do that again or would bother to try. The problem with this direction and not breaking the NDA here guys, but the story has to make sense.

How does a Jedi make evil dark side choices and still be considered a Jedi? Rifts story might not be presented like we have seen before, but it does make sense

Nope, it's Rift.
