interesting report, thanks.  makes me wonder if they will incorporate some specific dodge training into the tutorial since it is now such a core mechanic.  i realize there are opportunities to dodge, but a simple task that requires you to dodge would probably benefit a lot of people.

the skill acquisition mechanic will probably do a good job of easing you into incorporating each new one into your arsenal as you progress.

I don't see the need to incorporate any sort of dodge tutorial, since those annoying tooltips would point the nooblets in the right direction. Also the fact that the dodge mechanic has it's own dedicated bar, give people an idea of it's importance. Especially with mini bosses oneshotting them all the time. However it's funny watching GW2 noobs actually playing the game for the 1st time.

This video is cool too, though I wish that Totalbiscuit was shown the intro of the dragon fight.  I also think he would have had a better time actually expierencing the dragon fight if other players were there, rather than simply trying to reach it. :P

And although the game is fun overall, I agree with the SW:TOR people before so I can understand where they are coming from: the game does not necessarily seem too fun when you are just looking at it, but it is a lot more when you are playing it - when you're busy trying to do all these things at once, it feels a lot more involved.

Thanks for the link. I now know I won't be spending money on this game. It looks so boring to me. Now to be fair, all videos of someone else playing looks boring. But I have no desire for the combat or the text being read to me as some kind of false improvment of text play. It is way more 2D than I would have liked. The way the VO is done is not very good IMO. And questing is questing, dynamic won't make a difference when it comes down to just playing the game. I guess it is more of just being tired of the same ol fantasy setting.

 

I saw this post and was interested in seeing what the current game play looked like. I am not saying my view is everyones view, so no need to flame me. It is just my opinion and now I don't have to come back and keep looking. I was going to play this along with my P2P, but not any more. Good luck to everyone when the game launches. I am sure many will have fun with GW2, just dosen't look to be for me anymore.

From your signature I assume ur SW:TOR fan,but let me ask you have you seen some actual game play from SW:TOR ? Becouse all the faults gw2 game play in your opinion has are 100x worse in SW:TOR - seriously SW:TOR fan telling us that gw2 game play is boring ... lol. Btw quality VO and cutscenes from leaked SW:TOR beta made me laugh - seriously character returning quests waiting 1-2 secs for loading cutscene, then npc in cutscene just tells him 'thank you' ... lol, no thx I take texts for this any time a day - I still can read :P.

Exactly.  A fanboi is a fanboi regardless of what jersey he or she is wearing.  I have seen both GW2 and SWTOR fanbois say some ridiculous stuff.  There is no point in arguing which game has the craziest fanbois because it is essentially the inverse of a pissing contest.

I agree and I am a little disappointed in Maverick.  I usually support his posts about anti-fanboy gibberish.  I understand setting a over zealous GW2 fan straight but failing to mention anything about the self proclaimed GW2 hater trolling in a GW2 discussion makes it look like Maverick is biased towards one side.  That's too bad, usually I like his posts.  There are a few SWTOR fans in this thread ripping on GW2 but its the GW2 fans that are closedminded?  Huh?  Most of us see them as the ugly beast under the bridge, but a few get upset and swing back.   Smacking down trolls makes more sense then acusing over zealous GW2 fans of being closedminded for defending their turf so to speak.

That was one of the better looks we got at that boss fight, probably because there were only 2 players in the area.  I like the general concept of what's going on.  Players + a bunch of specialized NPCs establish an assault on the dragon.  You must then coordinate a combination of defense of the turrets and friendly NPCs and offense against the bone wall and dragon.  Contrary to what TB and the Anet dev (sounded like Colin Johanson) said, however, it definitely seemed like 2 players could easily have completed that DE in maybe 15 minutes time.  Simply defend one set of turrets, then get in them and blast the dragon away until you have to get out to defend again.

why not and what's it to you? if a game is vastly superior in every conceivable way to the other products that are on the market, or coming up, then why not post those opinions? why not be ok with the discussion? so instead of bashing the bashers, you can come up with counter points. if we just focus on the positives about upcoming games, then everything new that comes out will follow in TOR's footsteps - WoW clonage.

forums are for opinions and people have to be ok with that as long as said opinions are worded respectfully.

No matter what fans of what game are being extremists, it's still no justification for that kind of behaviour, personally I find such epeen pissing 'game 1 vs game 2' contests kind of immature and petty. Don't you?

I am biased, I dislike all extremist, heavily onesided viewpoints where people from one side are unable to grasp or acknowledge the arguments used by the other side or seem only to be ably to enjoy their gaming fanboing by bashing other games or where people can only see things in black or white, this or that.

In the post I was quoting, 1 poster gave his opinion regarding GW2, then the other poster decided to use a fallacy by drawing SWTOR into the discussion, making it a 'game 1 vs game 2' discussion and pissing contest yet again.

With such a heavily colored, onesided viewpoint, I don't see what discussion with you about this topic will benefit. It seems your mind is set no matter what, which is fine, if you like a game you intend to play. However, something tells me that you're far less openminded and understanding when it comes to people doing exactly what you say, ' coming up with counter points and not just focusing on the positives', when it's about GW2.

That should be obvious yes. But I fully planned on playing both games for different reasons. I don't even have a hand full of posts on GW2 forums. I don't attack others that like the game, I have just pointed out how I felt about what I have seen. I have no experience with GW2 and a beta test 3 day weekend with TOR. So I have my feelings based on testing of only one of the two. As I said, watching is very different from playing. But I just don't want to get back into the setting. And the only reason I wanted to play in the first place was the dynamic events. But the mechanics just don't do it for me really. Can I not state that I don't prefer the way GW2 looks as an opinion?

The only one going overboard here is you and others foaming at the mouth attacking any critic of your game. As I said, I wanted to play it because it is B2P and wouldn't cost me anything to just play it when ever I wanted a change of pace. It could be because I didn't like GW either. I played for about a month and tried another expansion. But it just wasn't for me.

I won't be comming back, but I just saw this pop up and thought I would take another look at any new videos. Now thanks to you and other foaming fanbois, I don't think I will come back to look at anything.

All good man, not everyone will like everything.  Still, you may want to at least give it a shot.  I know I will be giving SWTOR a shot and I'm not that hyped for it ATM.

The point is that my opinion on SWTOR is just that, an opinion.  SWTOR could wind up being the best MMORPG in history and I don't want to risk letting it pass me by, by ignoring it based on some predjudice :).

If your going to chastise those involved in a pissing contest you should include those starting the pissing contest in the first place.  You called out  the over zealous GW2 fan responding to the obivious troll.  I don't excuse his response but I sure as crap don't excuse the guy that through the first punch.   So if the original poster gave a sincere opinion, then I should head straight over to a SWTOR discussion and complain about the combat that I believe is weak.   The truth is, that would be a troll, so I don't because that would only start a pissing contest. 

BTW, your justification for your response doesn't make sense either.  Both gave their opinion.  There was no arguement, no explanation of why either came to their conclusion.
