Maybe the reason it feels like decade to you is that you have no concept of time whatsoever!

It was officially announced in 2007 by EA & BW, nearly 5 years ago lol, where did you get 2 from?

Rumours had been around since 2005 as there was talk of SWG being taken from SOE &

given to BW to fix, but never happened & now we all know why :)

*EDIT*

Quite poor for a mmorpg member of staff to write about the waiting for SW:tor to release &

then get the dates so so wrong...

I guess because I really never bought into the hype for this title, haven't bothered to read up on it I'm not suffering from any sort of fatigue for it. I agree with those who want it to release when Bioware is satisfied that it is ready and not a moment before.

Right now Spring 2012 would be my guess but does't really matter to me.

I'm beyond the hype it appears.

I read that EA has even considered a March '12 release if they need it. I promise you, if it releases past January I wont be playing this game. Feb of '12 is going to be packed with a lot of AAA games. Then GW2 will be coming out, and Ill be all over that with my guild. I sure hope BW doesnt make a huge mistake and assume people will buy it just because its a SW game.

We need a release date soon. SWTOR is starting to wither in peoples minds.

Indeed. I think Bioware NEEDS to release TOR considerably before GW2. Half a year at least, so that they have time to release their first mini expansion shortly after GW2 release. Any delay too far into the F2P giant GW2 will greatly damage SWTOR, whether the fanbois like that truth or not.

A forum is a place where people can discuss about different opinions. So what I don't get is, how people react offended when they come to a forum and then find... well different opinions. If a different opinion offends you, what are you even doing here?

If "fatigue" is settling in, you've been focusing on the game too much, in my opinion. I can understand this being the case for the folks at MMORPG.com, as they have to constantly monitor the news and developments relating to major games. But for the average person, no, you shouldn't be "fatigued" from waiting for a game. This indicates one of several things: You're obsessed, you're in a MMO drought and have nothing else to play, you're in a MMO drought and you have nothing else to do, etc. If so, do what I do: Check DarthHater every Friday, post some comments to keep in touch with others waiting for TOR, and don't think about it for a week.

The good news is that there's a strong possibility of the game coming out near Christmas. So, even if you're "fatigued", just wait a bit longer, unless BioWare delays once more and your hopes are crushed like Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca in that garbage compactor on the Death Star.

I think the fact of the matter is these types of games never release perfect. The risk versus benefit ratio has to be right for them to release it. In my view with 2 more months they will have achieved close release state perfect as they will get. Theres a reason why we have patches today. Non mmos are releasing games unfinished in some sense then fixing the bugs thru patches. So yea a playable working state sounds good to me. I dont think they want to compete with GW2 head on. I think tey will lose that battle.

I think LA and EA/Bioware have set the bar so high with this game, with all the hype. Not to mention all the money they invested in this game.

Players expectations have gone through the roof!

It's like they are afraid to release this game. Fear of failure. Wich will result in huge financial losses and huge concequences for Bioware as studio.

It just shows with how the Beta weekends are going and the way they are being handled. How they only doing US so far and not the rest. Coming up with all kinds of excuses that have been going on for many months since start of Closed Beta.

You really wonder what is going on. Maybe starting the whole Pre-order thing already wasn't such a bright idea after all? A little too soon?

Its a ramp up to release.  They are planning to release shortly,  but, the game is still not ready, obviously.  Weekend testing is just that - testing.  Closed beta testing has been going on for a long, long time.

There are things I'd like to say specifically about the state of the game,  but, unfortunately  I can't.  What I can say, is that -  you can wait and polish and polish,  and polish...  but if you keep putting everything in a game and polishing it the way you feel it needs to be for perfection, you'll never release the game.  BioWare is trying to raise the standards of their newly released title,  but they are also making a deadline.

Its make or break time, so the cut off has happened on what will not make it in at launch,  and now its focusing on getting what is there, polished,  or what is going on launch, implemented and tested in these "new builds" by weekend testers and closed testers so they can make their target date.

Some of these companies really need to learn that a big part of hype is generated when something is "new".   A new game is announced and everyone gets excited and wants details.  Then they want new details.  And later, even more new details.  New is exciting.

But some of these developers need to learn that they should just keep a lid on it until closer to release.  Wouldnt it be great to hear about a new Star Wars mmo made by Bioware of all developters and not only that but the game will be coming out in a few months?  NEATO!

But see thats not the case here.  Lets announce the game years before it releases so that by the time it does, people are already half burned out on the idea.   Its pointless.  If they had announced the game just a year ago for instance, everyone would be hyped still.

Its one thing I sort of like about Bethesda.  One minute you had no idea what was going on and the next?  Bam.  We're releasing a new game and it should be out in less than a year.  Its excellent PR.  Other studios really need to learn by this example.  Im not talking about the games themselves as much as just keeping their mouths shut and working hard, and then tell everyone about it when its nearly ready.

I mean, when my wife bakes cookies she tells the kids she's baking them, but she usually starts long before she tells them.  So they're all excited and only have to wait about 10 minutes or so to eat them.  But if she tells them, " Hey, Im baking cookies tonight. " Hours pass, more hours pass, the kids grow impatient.  They ask about it every ten minutes.  Then after hour 5 they begin to get a little grumpy when thinking about the cookies.  And by the time they finally get them they arent really that excited.  They have more of a "its about time" attitude.

Who can blame them?  Nobody wants to wait 5 hours for cookies.  And no one wants to wait year upon year upon year for an mmorpg.  Ignorance is bliss, and surprises are always fun.  Especially when they are soon to be had.

The only differents is guild wars 2 is buy to play and star wars tor is pay to play plus i dont think any loseing will be going on sounds like ot me your fanboy. I think these two games will do fine they both good. Star wars has its fans and so does guild wars two both games will do fine.

Not for me, with Skyrim, Bf3 and some others on the horizon. I feel there is plenty on the way to hold me over until a decent MMO to launches.

First of all, GW2 isn't F2P.   It's B2P.  And that fact alone makes your post arguable.  SWTOR isn't going to lose subscriptions or fans to GW2 in the amount that you are implying.  Because of the payment model of GW2, fans will be able to test out BOTH games without too much of an investment and then decide for themselves which one they like better.

If SWTOR loses any fans to GW2, it will be soley because GW2 is a better game, not because of some pre-launch hype factor. Which is yet another reason for BioWare to take their time and make sure the game is polished when they release it.

One more point:  People aren't buying SWTOR because it is an SW game.  They are buying it because it is a BIOWARE game set in the Star Wars universe.   Big difference.

Having people pre order your game months before you've even announced a release date probably wasn't the smartest thing to do if they were worred about people getting fatigued over waiting.

Having only 1 tester weekend and it's almost the end of September, it's pretty clear to me that we are at earliest looking end of Dec.. 3 more months minimum.

You can bet if people aren't tired of waiting.. they will be.

Just stop. The fanboy / hater spitting has been plaid out for months. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean you should blatantly go insulting them. Not to mention that it looks like, here, you are completely misunderstanding his point. I'd normally agree that the two games are not competing with one another (at least not directly). However, if EA waits to release TOR at around the same time as GW2, then they will be.

Only one has a sub, so players can enjoy both, but if they launch at around the same time, it's going to force players to devote more time to one game or the other. Maybe EA wants this, but it puts a huge risk on the longevity on a subscription based game. The smarter thing (if the game is indeed ready) is to release the game sooner, and get players invested in a subscription and updated content. Otherwise it becomes a battle over who has the better new car smell.

- To answer the OP, I would say that yes, fatigue is setting in. Personally, I've been going through cycles of getting excited or dissapointed by this title. It doesn't offer a ton of new things from the traditional MMO, but then again I did enjoy Rift for a time. However, I'd have to agree that if this game drags on passed the end of 2011; there is about a 99% chance I'm going to cancel my preorder, and play BF3, Skyrim, Torchlight 2,or a number of the other amazing AAA titles coming out which don't require a subscription. I've been burnt by quite a few MMOs (and I know I'm not alone on this), and i'm getting tired of throwing money away needlessly.

They screwed up by hyping the September weekend beta tests and then not delivering.  That's what pushed my fatigue level into overdrive.
