I have two "fears" at the moment: that the community will be bad and that the servers will not be up to par. Both plagued GW1. The community is the number 1 reason why I do not play in groups. It's in my playstyle to group up for missions though, but after so many bad groups either because of one groupmate purposely wasting the time of the others and getting everyone killed, or someone acting like a jerk, I just said 'screw it' and get some henchies or heros. I also got the impression there were lots of scammers in GW1 and I found the community often times rude. It was little better than WoW and in some ways a lot worse. I guess that's the danger of a B2P game The second problem is also still current though not as bad as before when there were more people playing. I still rubberband, and I still get lagspikes, but nothing like back in 2005-6. Again, I hope that ANet puts in better hardware. Your game can never be truly great if you don't give people the means to have a great experience without lag, disconnects, and rubberbanding. I don't really fear anything as far as design decisions they are making or anything like that. Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994. |

It's not like they're making up this information on the fly. All you have to do is some research. No one is asking you to "believe them" without evidence, but you're able to find that if you simply look.
It's fine if you want to "fear" the fans, but it's definitely unjustified.

Originally posted by just1opinion He does have a point though about overhyping. People get unreasonable expectations of overhyped games and then get incredibly frustrated when the game doesn't live up to their expectations. Though ANet has a decent track record with GW1, I do think that GW2 is being overhyped...

There is a difference between being a fan and being a chump.
A fan has nothing to do with zealousy or lack of rationality. Why the f**k would you take short gameplay presentations to heart? lots of crappy MMOs had amazing previews, and are really fun for the first couple of hours you spent with them at trade shows and in betas. That's not legit information. That's not research.
Jesus christ. you don't become an expert on anything because you copy or naively take everything to heart that others have to say.

You might want to polish up on your English a bit. Zealousy and lack of rationality are probably COMMON with "fans." Regardless....fans have a right to feel optimistic. If you don't like it....so? I fear the dynamic events will not inspire community and it will turn into a free-for-all solo-fest. I fear the same for WvW. Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1. |

Has anyone mentioned bunnyhopping giving some advantage so that it becomes the norm in PvP? That would suck. It seems like Anet doesn't see a problem with it yet, I hope they've been looking hard enough. |

Originally posted by Yaruna Oh shit, that would totally suck. I hope jumping consumes stamina or something, that way you'd only jump when you absolutely needed to. In the PvP matches I've seen there haven't been a whole lot of jumping, though... <childish, provocative and highly speculative banner about your favorite game goes here> |

Originally posted by just1opinion I don't worry about this at all. The dynamic events made rift a blast, it encouraged impromptu grouping, and it really brought people together. Rift has plenty of flaws, but it does show the potential of dynamic events. If they're implemented poorly, they may not help as much, but I definitely don't see them actually promoting the free-for-all you are worried about. |

I was afraid of dynamic events too until i saw them. They go beyond Rift and really encourage players to communicate. In Rift I would show up to a rift and so would many others. We'd fight but never talk or communicate in any way. Guild Wars 2 should be different in this respect as there are many different aspects to one phase of the dynamic event. My fears... I don't really have any honestly. I really trust ArenaNet because I have no reason not to. Everything is looking good. I'm sure if i thought hard i could find something to nitpick at.. buy why? It's looking great. |

Nope not a single worry, why? Because of the fantastic job they are doing so far. These needless whiners worrying about them not showing end-game content or not really paying attention to just WHAT group oriented world events without the need for a teamup mechanism means are silly. This game has the best features of any game i've ever seen in any title thus far and that includes RIFT.
- group events - random events - multiple actions per quest - dynamic changing world - no teamups needed for random events - participation based event handling - dynamic housing - storyline based questing (highly soloable) - classes that actually make sense (an Engineer CLASS, taming for the Ranger)
And to all the F2P naysayers and microtransaction haters let me just say this. Where will you be when Rift's dev system fails due to lack of revenue as sub only system starts to die, or SWTOR's into it's fourth month and content isn't added fast enough and they start losing people because the sub only model fails once again? It's gonna happen, just a matter of time. Case in point, World of Warcraft. Long Live the microtransaction stores! |

I worry it will be too cartoony, or that I'm simply so tired of fantasy games I won't enjoy it no matter how high quality the rest of it is.
I worry none of the professions will quite appeal to me in spite off all the possible skill variations.
I like the idea of being able to belong to more than one guild, so a lot of my guild worries are resolved, but of course as others have mentioned, there are possible drawbacks to being able to join multiple guilds. Never mind that I tend to keep an alt around who isn't in a guild in most games for those times when I just don't feel like being sociable. It sounds like that won't be an option in GW2.
I worry expansions will come out too often and make the game cost a good bit more than $15/mo, but I don't worry much that expansions won't come out often enough, because between alt rolling and pvp I should be fine on content.
I worry that the community will be either unpleasant or simply too immature, although I suspect at least a few decent adult guilds will exist, and I'll actively attempt to join several of those. Unless, of course, all of the adult guilds get jumpy about their members being in more than one guild, then I'm going to have guild issues.
I worry that it will be another half year before this finally releases, putting it in competition for my money and time with TSW, which is starting to look like it's going to be good, but not as solo friendly as GW2 will be.

Originally posted by Palebane Yeah that's my biggest concern as well, as it really doesn't matter what a-net does here, it's up to players to create community and socialize, recent trends in MMO's do not lead me to believe people will automatically start socializing again. Giving them the option to never have to, may make things far worse. Originally posted by Madimorga You think they can release an expansion every second month? Or that they will charge you 200 bucks for them? $45 is a likely price and there is no way they can release one every 3 months, and even if by some miracle they could release it you don't have to buy all expansions. $45 every 9 months is what you likely will have to pay to get the new expansions, $60 in worst case. P2P subs are $180 a year, and there you can't wait paying and still play while you save for the expansion. I think I payed something around $4 a month for Guildwars if you even out the cost for 3 campaigns and the expansion. I also played a lot of EQ2 which is about $20 a month including the games and all expansions. |

Originally posted by Madimorga If we assume that expansions'll be priced $50, they'd have to put out one new expansion every three months or even more frequently to cross the $15/month line. Also, don't many subscription fee-based MMOs have expansions you have to pay for? So even if ArenaNet DID release a new expansion every third month, $50 is still less than $15 * 3 + $50. <childish, provocative and highly speculative banner about your favorite game goes here> |

Originally posted by Distopia It can't be worse than in many other games, here you at least see the other players. Some games have so much instances and a dungeon finder that you rarely ever see people outside random PUGs. I think the soloplayers will be doing their instances in the personal storyline instead so we will not see them much at all. And the game will still have dungeons, Ill see you there. :) |
