The "gods" of Tyria are not all knowing or all powerful. Many of us GW1 players have come to the conslusion that they are essentially space travelers who tried to terraform an already inhabited planet. And then ran away whe the natives fought back. Humans are not actually native to Tyria. The "gods" brought them there. I don't think they even knew the elder dragons existed.

This seems to sum up everything perfectly. Sadly this looks EXACTLY like WoW's lore, like exactly exatctly. human gods come to tyria, try to do their stuff, old gods show up, they dissapear and humanity gets to deal with it. I'd like something a bit different this go around..
But I guess that solidifys the human gods as pretty much what the titans were. Powerful aliens who like to "order" planets.
Sad. Playing just GW1 they reminded me far more of the greek or roman gods, from personality to power to appearence. All the new lore with elder dragons ect makes them far less interesting to me. Who is teaching the kiddies today Naythiest is NOT a word. There is a term to describe that point of view and it has been around a long time.

Originally posted by noturpal You should really take your own advice before you attack a post. The option desired is NOT agnostic. In the option requested the player knows that the "gods" are real, they can effect the world in a real way, but chooses not to worship them. That is very different from agnostic. I think a term like "Naytheist" describes the idea perfectly.
If I played the new race in GW2, which has never seen a human "god" before, agnostic could very well be an option. but humans not only felt the effects of the "gods" for a long time, they directly interacted with them.
The idea here isn't that the player doesn't believe Dwayna is real, just that the player doesn't think of Dwayna as something that needs to be worshipped. Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats. |

Basically, this topic just demonstrates the superiority of having a human GM over a computer. THe ability to have limitless choices. Since they have to actually program in all the choices and storylines, things are automatically limited. ... for most things, you'll likely be a relatively stereotypical member of your race in your personal story. It's unlikely you'll be able to quit being part of the charr legions, you most definitely can't be a member of the Nightmare Court as a sylvari (Though apparently you can dress like one...), and sorry... no 'I'm a stupid asura' option, apparently. Smug and smart it is. No straightlaced norn who spur alchohol and partying, either. edit: This is also why any halfway decent RPer isn't going to be using their personal story as the canonical guide to their character, and will tweak and rewrite as neccessary to be more interesting and less like everybody else. |
