It's not the same company anymore or same people, they are snobbish folks overthere and I see no future. They were'nt the same since beginning of AC2. They pretty much treat their customers like crap nowadays, think they know all, and truly have no clue.. I wont be back to any new hoopla.  But I will cherish the original AC memories forever. I still have visions and shivering chills of banderlings rolling their eyes at me as I walk past in a distance.

Wasn't that the reason AC2 failed so miserably, due to being an AC version of WoW?

Stripped down version, horrible unbalanced classes, totally different from AC and its original awesome premise.

I recall those tower guys just mopping up everything, while everything else was lackluster, crafting was broing, this was boring,

Darkenfowl was boring, running around killing chickens is all i recall.. no reason to be there. Was a different team of people who didnt know what made the MMO's fun.. As we still see today, they still dont have a clue

It's pretty much the same picture, the team become all 3d modelers and artists and whatnot, and no programming... the algorithms behind AC were classic, but their support problems lead them to linear decisions which is what we see more of today... They don't want to support games, just cash in on them

AC2 was an Everquest clone, which is why it failed so miserably. WoW is also an Everquest clone, but had a massive budget and proper advertising (plus a well-established name behind it, rather than Turbine's rather obscure name at those times)...

A proper sequel to Asheron's Call is number one on my list of Most Wanted Game; one which actually builds on everything done with AC1 - keeps intact everything awesome (including the storyline; the ridiculous 'World Over, Everybody In Bunkers, Reset Button' story of AC2 was just terrible) about AC - especially the classless skill-based system - while improving on the things which needed improving.

Excuse me? I very much doubt that was called for - as shown I merely asked a question, normally a question means that I do not know the answer and was therefore asking a query....

Therefore insulting me for no apparant reason just makes you come across as a horrible person.

Well done.

I would actually say Nobotter is the one without a clue.

The game has been getting better by the month the last few years. They've really taken the time to fix some old issues, add new features, and improve the art. Things such as tailoring and the barber were wonderful additions. You now have new race choices as well. A two handed combat skill, a void magic school of magic, rares that level, aetheria that level and have chances to cast bonus spells during combat. The game has done a ton in the last few years. The current team is doing solid for their size/resources.

They listen to their players all the time. In fact they just started their second "Day of Dev's Time" where they let players suggest changes/additions/etc that the devs could likely complete in one day's time to put in game. The last one went really well and I'm sure this one will do well also.

It is always important to remember that the game is 11 years old. It will have some quirks and inconveniences. They are easy to get used to and deal with. Bottom line the game is still extremely fun and still gets monthly patches with content and features.

Yes good points. And technically since Asherons Call launched in October of 1999, and it now being October of 2011, Asherons Call is now 12 years old.

Gotta be an AMAZING game with VERY LOYAL devs behind it for this game to still be going today. It's not only ACs amazing fan base, but a very awesome company behind the game to keep it going this long with so few subscribers for so many years now. Turbine has been more then loyal to it's first baby mmo to not scrap it long ago in an effort to put those resources into something more mainstream.

You don't stop playing because you get old - you get old because you stop playing.

The focus at Turbine has moved away from Dereth to the more publicly-recognisable D&D and LOTR, so I don't anticipate AC3 ever - and maybe this isn't a bad thing.

The game we remember is and always will be a classic - massive landspace, open world, significant monthly updates, magnificent flexibility and variety and the fact that there is a steady and reasonable population 12 years on paying for the privalege of playing tells you that the game truly is a stand-out in the crowded MMO marketplace.

I left originally to play WoW, Fallen Earth, DDO, LOTRO, EQ2 and Rift, but AC is the one I'll come back to every time - it sets the standard, and has set it high enough that it'll take something truly special to make me put my flame-rended two-handed sword down.

I've played Turbine games (DDO and LotRO) for nearly 5 years now.  They aren't the same company and it would have to be a remarkable game and team to get me even remotely interested.  They are so deeply entrenched in their store and store exclusives I just can't see them ever releasing a game anything like AC in the future.

As has already been stated, the original team has long since gone and the will to do AC again most likely doesnt exist at the upper-levels of management.  It does seem that they have some good talent on board for the original game again but sadly they don't get to call the shots on Turbine making games. At least they can't take away the memories of all those great times :)

I would've bought AC2 in a heartbeat, but I honest to god did not hear about it until it shut down - and I played Anarchy Online and Everquest 1 until 2006.

GUI-wise AC2 was the game most ripped off by WoW. Anyone thinking WoW had an original code-bone in its code-body needs to quit smoking that awful weed.

I really  hope we get to see another MMO based in Dereth as I loved the style and setting very much. Personaly I believe Turbine is sitting on a goldmine without realizing it.

They actually only need to detail/map out the current AC1 setting and transfer it into a new engine. Sure, its quite a bit of work, but its still incredibly cheap compared to actually making a game from the ground up. If they transfered it into a new engine with the rules framework and just recreate the entire AC1 timeline storywise they'll earn so much money they wont have time to spend it. Old AC1 players would jump back in in a heartbeat because I think we all loved the montly updates and evolving story.

Asheron's Call 1 forever.
