Originally posted by Metentso I second that also! "roleplaying" is much removed from many games anyway however if someone has the desire to roleplay something that is important to them just do it and /ignore anyone who bugs you about it. - I have played Everquest, DAOC, Shadowbane, WoW, Aion, Rift, SW Galaxies, Planetside and Guild Wars (all expacs) |

I read the OP , thought it was a serious issue, people linked what it was all about and i facepalmed. Now unless i'm wrong, never in the Star Wars movies was there any reference to same sex relations, so why should a game based on that add it to it? To ruin the lore? to be super tolerant? If you want games with SSR's create your own fantasy universe where it is common or whatever. But by all means stop the whining about such futile issues. Oh and like some others have mentioned: RP, learn to do it. Fere libenter homines id quod volunt credunt. |

What you do in PRIVATE is up to you. What you do in PUBLIC is up to everyone around you. That goes for MMO's as well. More pointedly, I am not in favor of ANY form of romance regardless of genders being envolved. I am much more comfortable that I know REAL romance then finding it in an MMO. Bioware should just drop the whole "romance" thing regardless. Let's party like it is 1863! |

Originally posted by generals3 I simply agree. Without hatered I can say that I'm tired of having homosexuals on everything. I'm so liberal and tolerant that if George Lucas and Bioware writers feel that homosexuals have no place in Star Wars universe I'm fine, I tolerate intolerance inside fictional world. Anyway if case was otherwise I would like to have Twilek girl companion with 3rd tentacle :) , spice things up a bit. |

/popcorn This is some of the most entertaining stuff. You got the posters who think gay people are "very rare" and this is a non issue. lol You got the posters who think gay people are equivalent to being attracted to a box or an animal. lol You got the posters who think gay people aren't really discriminated against or ignored in games so what's the issue. lol You got the posters who think gay discrimination is normal for gaming, so whats the big deal. lol You got the posters who think the gay issue is more adult and explicit-y than being straight. lol
It reminds me when I was in highschool and this bully was telling a joke about this black classmate and he used the term "porch monkey" and everyone laughed. And my eye balls almost fell out of my head. Is this really happening? Or the time one of my co-workers said she couldn't stand chinese. Almost spit out my coffee.
I think this is the kind of thread that just attracts people like that. They see their prejudice and the way they were raised as if everyone thinks like that. |

The type of person who would bend over and spread his buttcheeks just to prove he's not homophobic. All the time wearing a smug smile of self-superiority. |

Assuming the OP is not just trolling elaborately and he really is of that of sexual persuasion...
Seriously dude, get over yourself. You actually think Bioware cares about your sexual preferance? You think a gaming company is trying to make some definative republican statement on their view of homosexuality? Come on man, despite your over-inflated view of self-importance, the gaming company does not give one tiny rat's ass about what you do with your extra time and who you do that with. they're not going to cover all forms of romance because the game is NOT ABOUT ROMANCE. It's fiction. Science Fiction to be more precise. The focus of the game is WAR.
I'm going to stop typign becuase i think the OP's not concerned about this at all. I think he's a troll. Well-played sir. |

I'm so confused. What do MMO's have to do with releationships? I don't remember having a relationship with an NPC in any of the many MMO's I've played. I thought we were playing with real people whom you can have a relationship with in the real world and the game world.

Originally posted by Mardukk Well, which mmo's did you play that incorporated fully fleshed out storylines with interactions with fully fleshed out NPC's? However, I suspect that you are fully aware of the point you want to make and are not confused at all. |

So, just so I understand...people are actually upset because they can't make out with a same-sex companion IN A VIDEO GAME? Really?!? Look, I'm all for gay and lesbian rights in real life, but if you are honestly upset because you can't carry out some fictional relationship with a same-sex AI-controlled partner that happens to be pixelated...then it's time to seriously evaluate your social life, and maybe your mental state. I mean I know the fact that we all play MMO's proves that we've got some nerd-like qualities to begin with, but c'mon...this is jumping the nerd shark, so to speak. |

Originally posted by generals3 Oh really? I've worked for many businesses, in many offices and I've never worked in one that didn't have gay people. At all. I'm also pretty sure that the entertainment business (which brings in a few dollars per year) , in all its forms, has quite a few gay people. yup, that''s right, the movies, music, books, TV and even games actually have real life gay people. I'm sure many gay people are working very hard at this very moment to bring you the games you are waiting for. |

I haven't played an MMO where any of this would matter and you haven't either. I'm guessing someone has some inside info that relationships with NPCs are a major part of this game? If this really is an NPC relationship heavy game I can see how OP would be upset...and many others for different reasons. |

all i have to say about this is its called mmoRPG for a reason. its a character you are acting out that apparently isn't gay. i am not saying you are gay in real life (OP) because i do not know. but i don't see why BW should be expected to cater to gay people when it is not intended for the story or characters in their game. if that seems harsh or "anti-gay" i am sorry. i am not anti-gay but i don't see why they should have to add in same sex romance options just to make the gay community happy when it doesn't fit into their story line. just because you like gay romance stories or are gay in real life does not mean your character has to be gay. its an RPG not a RLG. |

But...this is an MMORPG. It's not single player. If you really want to have a same sex romance, then just find another player oriented as you are and romance each other away. I'm straight, but I did the same thing with a (presumably) girl when I was a desparate teenager playing UO and EQ. Aren't MMORPGs at least on some level supposed to be about interactions with the players? Personally, I don't see much of a point in having ANY kind of NPC romance in a game that has thousands of REAL PEOPLE for you to romance with. Old school MMORPGs used to support this concept by having in game weddings and stuff like that. Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

Originally posted by Biggus99 No I don't think you do understand. Some gays and lesbians are upset that there will be relationships in the game, which bioware has always done, but are not including an option to have relationships that better reflect their interests... which bioware has done in many of their games. Secondly, I find it interesting to see people "for gay and lesbian rights" and proclaim they aren't homophobic or that they are completley understanding of gays but when it comes time for gays to ask to be included at the table these understanding and pro-gay rights people can't understand why? being for gay rights and not homophobic doesn't just mean you are a nice person and won't hunt them down on sight. It means you are understanding of their issues and are supportive of their position to be included as equal citizens with all the rights, perks, etc that that would mean. Whether that means giving them the right to marry or to include depictions of their lifestyle in movies, books and vidoe games that have story and characters. As far as "pixelated images" sexualtiy and romantic relations have been depicted loooooong before the camera was ever invented or even conceived. Remember, erotica is in the mind first and foremost. |
